00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:00.660
Hello.
00:00:00.689 --> 00:00:04.679
Welcome to the one year anniversary of As The Poke Ball Turns.
00:00:05.190 --> 00:00:24.649
My name is David Hernandez, the defacto host editor, taco Connoisseur, and any other fancy title that you can think of, because more than likely I am it for some of my new listeners or maybe more observant listeners, you may go, but wait, your first episode was in August.
00:00:25.484 --> 00:00:35.865
and you would be correct that the first episode you'll see on whatever podcast platform you're using, please, subscriber follow, by the way, if you haven't already, was in September.
00:00:36.945 --> 00:00:49.338
However, that was not my very first episode for any long time listeners, they remember when I used to cover the news on a weekly basis for any longtime OGs that maybe.
00:00:49.536 --> 00:00:51.756
heard my first episode or second or third.
00:00:52.207 --> 00:00:54.966
They remember when I used to do this two to three times a week.
00:00:55.265 --> 00:00:57.095
Yeah, those were very stressful times.
00:00:57.095 --> 00:00:58.835
and I do not recommend those for anybody.
00:00:59.555 --> 00:01:03.845
So let's go back to the days of when I had less gray hair on my head.
00:01:03.845 --> 00:01:04.266
Thank you.
00:01:04.271 --> 00:01:05.006
D f w drivers.
00:01:05.498 --> 00:01:11.379
So I used to cover the news about topics and events with Pokemon Go, it was basically a standard news podcast.
00:01:11.975 --> 00:01:21.066
Sometimes I would cover news, other times, random thoughts of things that would go on in the game, like you know, is PVP the future of Pokemon Go or even sharing facts about certain Pokemon.
00:01:21.665 --> 00:01:25.775
And honestly, I'll probably eventually go back to doing those cuz I actually kind of missed that aspect of the podcast.
00:01:26.075 --> 00:01:28.638
But what we would do is we would cover like, A community Pokemon.
00:01:28.638 --> 00:01:41.001
So say for example, I did Starley Dino, like those are actually a lot of fun But anyway, I did that from February, all the way until September with a two month break between April and May.
00:01:41.599 --> 00:01:45.260
And that's what the podcast was for, a good part of its time.
00:01:45.260 --> 00:02:04.993
It's existed so far, and to be honest, I really don't miss covering the news because there are way more podcasts to do a way better job at it than I could like purified round table chat talk lured up way lords and countless others, and they really dive into the news and events of Pokemon Go and they share their thoughts on the events.
00:02:04.993 --> 00:02:06.653
So if you want that, listen to them.
00:02:07.259 --> 00:02:14.308
it's unfortunate because I finally found my style on how like I wanted to do the news and then I just switched it to trainer's eyes.
00:02:14.308 --> 00:02:17.609
And part of me was somewhat disappointed, but then part of it was kind of a relief.
00:02:18.207 --> 00:02:31.948
the truth is, the trainer's Eyes episode, which is what it is now, they were just doing way better than my regular episodes and they had a higher ceiling with what I could do with that content, and I really wanted to explore that.
00:02:32.552 --> 00:02:40.592
and truth be told, if we go way back to when I was even planning the podcast, trainer's Eyes is actually what the podcast was always meant to be.
00:02:41.188 --> 00:02:50.848
I only did the news to be able to kind of help me get used to having a mic in front of me to get used to recording because if anybody listened to my way earlier episodes, they were rough.
00:02:51.419 --> 00:02:52.649
Like they were very hard.
00:02:52.649 --> 00:02:54.149
Like I can't even listen to them and I.
00:02:55.346 --> 00:02:58.346
But, uh, speaking of planning the podcast, let's talk about that real quick.
00:02:58.825 --> 00:03:07.752
So, when I started planning the podcast with what little planning I did do, I had this vision of people sharing their story on how they started playing Pokemon Go.
00:03:08.353 --> 00:03:10.002
Basically from beginning to now.
00:03:10.002 --> 00:03:11.532
What does that journey look like?
00:03:12.073 --> 00:03:13.782
How do they choose to play the game?
00:03:14.383 --> 00:03:16.932
Did you have experiences with Pokemon before?
00:03:16.932 --> 00:03:17.502
Go?
00:03:17.622 --> 00:03:18.582
Cause some people don't.
00:03:19.179 --> 00:03:20.348
I find stuff like that.
00:03:20.348 --> 00:03:27.288
Very interesting, which is why I ask the questions that I do each episode, and that's how I approach every episode actually.
00:03:27.294 --> 00:03:28.058
That's how I approach every.
00:03:28.778 --> 00:03:30.429
That I invite onto the podcast.
00:03:30.429 --> 00:03:32.348
I ask him the questions I just said to you.
00:03:32.348 --> 00:03:38.109
Now with a course of other things we talk about, but that's primarily the objective I have with as the poker ball turns.
00:03:38.712 --> 00:03:42.462
And this idea started honestly back when we used to do in-person raid.
00:03:43.302 --> 00:03:52.596
I always remember this topic coming up while we were tapping and attempting to catch the Pokemon, and especially when newer players found our raid group, one of the first questions we would ask is like, how long have you been playing?
00:03:52.596 --> 00:03:54.302
Or how did you start playing?
00:03:54.302 --> 00:03:57.362
You know, like some people, they got, they came in because of their kids.
00:03:57.443 --> 00:04:03.302
Some people have been playing for a while and they just never found a raid group, and that was always kind of fun, especially.
00:04:03.932 --> 00:04:12.122
For us down here in uh Dallas, we would sometimes catch meals together and that's when we really like shared our collection and we talk about that stuff.
00:04:12.723 --> 00:04:24.892
And I felt that was missing, that there really wasn't a place people could go to learn about this if anybody was interested, You know, the YouTubers, they primarily focus on talking about events with a lot of B roll.
00:04:25.043 --> 00:04:27.233
You might get some who do some fun challenges.
00:04:28.463 --> 00:04:35.612
PVP primarily focuses on gbl, most podcasts just cover the news and that was really about it, at least from what I could find.
00:04:36.213 --> 00:04:40.983
And I felt that there was an opportunity to have that, to tell a.
00:04:41.702 --> 00:04:46.142
Of how this game really has changed people and what it meant to them.
00:04:46.413 --> 00:04:52.774
Because for some Pokemon Go allowed'em to branch out of, I think of Bird Power.
00:04:52.779 --> 00:05:00.785
Bird Power's a prime example on how, if you listen to her episode, she talked about how she was very closed in, but Pokemon Go, especially the PVP scene, helped her.
00:05:00.785 --> 00:05:04.055
step forward as a person to be more social and stuff like that.
00:05:04.653 --> 00:05:07.983
For some people, it helped them introduce them into content creation.
00:05:08.434 --> 00:05:11.463
It helped them start a podcast like me and countless others.
00:05:11.463 --> 00:05:20.685
The podcast I've had like Pokemon Go has allowed'em to do that, and for others it's allowed'em to travel the world and see things like Pokemon Go has really changed people.
00:05:21.165 --> 00:05:22.935
Sometimes good, sometimes bad.
00:05:23.115 --> 00:05:24.136
I leave that up for you to.
00:05:25.396 --> 00:05:28.815
and just trying to share a story is honestly the vision for this podcast.
00:05:28.815 --> 00:05:38.803
like I said, it's what I had in mind when I first started developing the idea for as the poker ball turns, when I made the transition to full on trainer's eyes, which is what it is now.
00:05:39.494 --> 00:05:50.329
I took down all the old episodes because, I was conflicted because usually most podcasters would tell you just leave them up because it allows you to see the evolution of the podcast to back in the day to now.
00:05:50.932 --> 00:05:55.865
For me, I was conflicted because that part of the podcast isn't what it is anymore.
00:05:56.571 --> 00:05:57.980
I don't do than use anymore.
00:05:57.980 --> 00:06:03.740
I don't cover those ton of top, well, I cover the topics, but I cover'em in differently, different way, if that makes sense.
00:06:04.190 --> 00:06:10.055
So I took'em down because I wanted trainer's eyes to be the primary focus, cuz that's what the podcast was supposed to be.
00:06:10.055 --> 00:06:12.365
And it didn't make sense for me to keep the old stuff on.
00:06:12.973 --> 00:06:14.802
I still have them for my own amusement.
00:06:14.833 --> 00:06:16.632
They're like, they're not gone forever.
00:06:16.663 --> 00:06:18.192
Nothing really is to be honest.
00:06:18.795 --> 00:06:21.045
And maybe I'll revisit an episode for fun someday.
00:06:21.045 --> 00:06:24.254
You can really see how bad how cringey it was.
00:06:24.857 --> 00:06:28.187
And honestly, that chapter of the podcast was Season zero.
00:06:28.187 --> 00:06:30.107
You know, every podcast has an episode zero.
00:06:30.112 --> 00:06:31.516
I had a season zero.
00:06:32.122 --> 00:06:38.276
So now that brings us to the one year anniversary, My first episode was February 3rd, 2022.
00:06:38.884 --> 00:06:40.173
I talked about the lunar event.
00:06:41.370 --> 00:06:44.100
It was three minutes and two seconds long.
00:06:44.701 --> 00:06:50.221
I kid you not, this whole episode is already twice the length of my first episode.
00:06:50.221 --> 00:06:52.110
It was the length, the cook, a hot pocket.
00:06:52.110 --> 00:06:53.221
That's how short it was.
00:06:53.221 --> 00:06:56.310
Okay, Needless to say, I was very nervous early on.
00:06:56.821 --> 00:06:58.081
You couldn't tell that by now.
00:06:58.081 --> 00:07:00.240
Like I said here, you can't hear me to shut up.
00:07:01.065 --> 00:07:02.836
It's amazing what one year can do to a person.
00:07:03.437 --> 00:07:05.567
I've had today's date, mark for a while.
00:07:05.567 --> 00:07:13.908
I've been constantly thinking, not constantly, but you know, I've always, I've been thinking about how do I want to do the one year anniversary because I knew that I was gonna make it.
00:07:13.968 --> 00:07:16.637
I'm like, no matter what, I'm gonna make it to my one year anniversary.
00:07:17.247 --> 00:07:22.976
I mean, I haven't felt like I needed to take a breaking like that, but I always said that if I ever come to that point, I wanted to at least make it to the one.
00:07:23.334 --> 00:07:24.625
And you know, here we are.
00:07:25.223 --> 00:07:29.302
I've had it marked since probably, I think maybe Halloween at this point.
00:07:29.910 --> 00:07:32.100
And I was thinking like, what do I really wanna do?
00:07:32.701 --> 00:07:36.721
I'm one of those people who used to struggle with celebrating my birthday.
00:07:36.781 --> 00:07:41.730
Like I never look forward to my birthday cuz it's like, I feel like I should be doing something, but I could never figure out what I wanted to do.
00:07:42.630 --> 00:07:43.860
That's who I was.
00:07:43.891 --> 00:07:46.711
That's who I kind of am, although not as much anymore.
00:07:47.314 --> 00:07:49.880
but then I spoke with a friend named Beth.
00:07:50.511 --> 00:07:54.800
She's a Pokemon Go player, one who I would love to have on the show someday in the future.
00:07:55.550 --> 00:07:59.060
And she pregames her birthday.
00:07:59.600 --> 00:08:02.211
It's like a birthday month when it's her birthday.
00:08:02.331 --> 00:08:11.930
And one day we were talking, we were, I think it was probably a bingo night, and she explains on why she celebrates her birthday with such enthusiasm, cuz she really gets into it.
00:08:11.930 --> 00:08:14.360
You know, she's one of those people who like, It's her birthday.
00:08:14.360 --> 00:08:16.250
This is my time, you know, kind of thing.
00:08:16.250 --> 00:08:17.331
Which is not a bad thing.
00:08:17.331 --> 00:08:18.680
We, I think we should all strive for that.
00:08:19.290 --> 00:08:26.759
But anyway, she says, my birthday is the one day I can do what I want, and nobody can really say anything.
00:08:27.362 --> 00:08:35.282
And since then, I've celebrated my birthday with what I've wanted to do because basically it's another year that some people, they don't.
00:08:36.331 --> 00:08:37.621
I made another year.
00:08:37.951 --> 00:08:39.812
I should do something to celebrate that.
00:08:40.442 --> 00:08:47.042
I should celebrate my time to actually circle this earth for 365 or 360 6, depending off it's a leap year.
00:08:47.461 --> 00:08:50.251
And make something of, it doesn't have to be like extravagant.
00:08:50.251 --> 00:08:50.971
It could be anything.
00:08:50.976 --> 00:08:51.302
Right.
00:08:51.903 --> 00:08:53.552
And that brings us to this podcast.
00:08:54.159 --> 00:08:55.299
It's my podcast.
00:08:55.904 --> 00:08:58.125
I can do with it what I please.
00:08:58.732 --> 00:09:01.283
I could do like the way spotters and do a.
00:09:01.631 --> 00:09:04.001
but that would require a lot of editing on my part.
00:09:04.298 --> 00:09:09.711
Again, I'm only one man and I really don't want to edit three hours of content Oh, you think this is getting edited?
00:09:09.716 --> 00:09:12.201
This episode's likely going raw like my friend Lewis does.
00:09:12.201 --> 00:09:12.291
Si.
00:09:12.831 --> 00:09:19.220
So I thought about maybe inviting a special guest, but that felt like a lot of pressure.
00:09:19.220 --> 00:09:21.889
Like can you imagine like, Hey, I need you to come celebrate my one year anniversary.
00:09:21.889 --> 00:09:22.970
Me, you down it.
00:09:22.970 --> 00:09:26.059
Like, uh, like to me, that's a lot of pressure, right?
00:09:26.090 --> 00:09:26.539
It's the one.
00:09:27.437 --> 00:09:29.868
And again, I'd be editing cuz I'm the only man.
00:09:29.868 --> 00:09:30.888
I'm a one man show here.
00:09:31.489 --> 00:09:37.188
You know, I thought it'd be kind of cool to try and do this episode in the same time as my first episode, but you can look at the time right now.
00:09:37.219 --> 00:09:38.928
Not doing that obviously.
00:09:40.125 --> 00:09:52.299
But you know what I really want to do, you know what I really, really, really want to do and what I eventually decided on I wanted to say.
00:09:54.100 --> 00:09:55.270
thank you for listening.
00:09:56.471 --> 00:09:58.902
For those who have left ratings, thank you for leaving that.
00:10:00.100 --> 00:10:05.380
Thank you to all my guests who have come onto the show, who've allowed me to interrogate them with my questions.
00:10:06.221 --> 00:10:17.750
We spend hours like you don't get it, like y'all see the 20 to 40 minutes of those episodes, those are like maybe an hour and a half to two hours of actual real lifetime.
00:10:18.850 --> 00:10:22.421
and every guest has been willing to come and sit down, share this story.
00:10:22.691 --> 00:10:31.485
We have some laughs and obviously I don't include everything we talk about cause some of it is personal, and this podcast may be mine, but it wouldn't be the same without.
00:10:32.688 --> 00:10:36.438
It started with the vision, but you're carrying it to who knows where yet.
00:10:37.642 --> 00:10:41.631
And that's the fun part about the podcast and what I've enjoyed so far.
00:10:42.292 --> 00:10:53.157
I look back to where I was a year ago, where I am now, and in spite of all the shortcoming, not shortcomings, in spite of my own self sabotage, let's call it.
00:10:54.352 --> 00:10:56.153
The podcast is still thriving.
00:10:56.393 --> 00:11:00.802
It's still getting out to other people who listen, who hear people's stories.
00:11:00.802 --> 00:11:16.678
It's becoming what It's hard to explain because for me to envision this and for it to actually be happening, it's kind of surreal because I'm literally living out what I thought this podcast could become, and I'm excited to see what it's gonna become in the.
00:11:17.729 --> 00:11:19.048
I don't know what it is gonna be.
00:11:19.109 --> 00:11:22.109
That's the fun part about, that's both the fun and scary part of life.
00:11:22.109 --> 00:11:24.089
Like I'm a very naturally anxious person.
00:11:24.693 --> 00:11:26.734
I believe life has a lot of adventure.
00:11:26.734 --> 00:11:27.754
That that's the fun part.
00:11:27.754 --> 00:11:40.734
But then I'm also like, it could be anything You ever see the cartoon where Peter Griffin and I think he gets the choice between like, Money and a box and he goes, I can get a million dollars.
00:11:41.004 --> 00:11:44.063
But then the box could be anything that's life.
00:11:44.214 --> 00:11:48.474
Life could be, I could do this, but then this could happen and that this could happen.
00:11:48.474 --> 00:11:49.734
Could be both good or bad.
00:11:50.339 --> 00:11:55.109
And in the perfect world, we always want the good, but we don't live in a perfect world.
00:11:55.710 --> 00:11:58.119
But that's both the keeps me anxious.
00:11:58.119 --> 00:11:59.438
It keeps me up at night, but also the.
00:12:00.573 --> 00:12:03.244
It's a odd mixed bat if you know what I'm talking about.
00:12:03.244 --> 00:12:11.370
You know, if you know, you know but like I said, it started with the vision, but you guys are carrying it and I look forward to seeing where this podcast goes.
00:12:11.760 --> 00:12:13.201
I have some big plans for it.
00:12:13.230 --> 00:12:16.441
Beyond trainer's eyes doesn't mean the series is gonna stop anytime soon.
00:12:16.441 --> 00:12:17.551
I plan on bringing guests.
00:12:17.551 --> 00:12:21.880
That's why the whole, uh, hashtag is 52, 52 weeks.
00:12:21.880 --> 00:12:22.600
52 guests.
00:12:22.605 --> 00:12:24.811
I did that cuz this whole year's gonna be guests.
00:12:25.291 --> 00:12:26.610
But it doesn't mean that's the only thing I'm working.
00:12:27.721 --> 00:12:32.160
I have other plans for the podcast that I look forward to sharing with you guys that I look forward to, hopefully.
00:12:32.160 --> 00:12:42.972
I mean, I've already talked with a couple other people and we've already did some things, so eventually, you know, when I get enough time to edit and get that stuff out there, I'm looking forward to seeing what happens, and that's exciting for me.
00:12:44.013 --> 00:12:48.543
We'll find out how the poker ball turns together, but until then, I'll see you next time.
00:13:30.000 --> 00:13:30.780
Oh wow.
00:13:31.921 --> 00:13:32.821
You're still listening.
00:13:33.931 --> 00:13:36.091
You're one dedicated mother.
00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:00.660
00:00:00.689 --> 00:00:04.679
00:00:05.190 --> 00:00:24.649
00:00:25.484 --> 00:00:35.865
00:00:36.945 --> 00:00:49.338
00:00:49.536 --> 00:00:51.756
00:00:52.207 --> 00:00:54.966
