00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:03.319
I'm Becca Baddest and this is my Pokemon story.
00:00:43.033 --> 00:00:47.844
Welcome to, as the Pokeball turns, where we interview people about their experience with Pokemon.
00:00:48.264 --> 00:00:50.064
My name is David Hernandez.
00:00:50.392 --> 00:00:55.942
I'm joined by Becca Baddis, a Pokemon TCG player and Pokemon VGC competitor.
00:00:56.201 --> 00:00:58.042
Becca, welcome to the podcast.
00:00:58.087 --> 00:01:00.646
Hello, David, and hello, audience.
00:01:00.646 --> 00:01:02.436
Thank you so much for having me on the show.
00:01:02.436 --> 00:01:04.046
I'm super excited to be here.
00:01:04.731 --> 00:01:05.471
Absolutely.
00:01:05.492 --> 00:01:10.102
And I love people who kind of dive into Pokemon more recently, which people are going to kind of find out because.
00:01:10.451 --> 00:01:18.042
You bring a new, fresh perspective for compared to us people who've been in, maybe from day one, I want to ask like, what got you started into Pokemon?
00:01:18.042 --> 00:01:21.501
What was it about Pokemon explicitly that one made you dive into this franchise?
00:01:21.656 --> 00:01:28.037
Yeah, so, if anything, I consider myself kind of a COVID baby when it comes to Pokémon.
00:01:28.477 --> 00:01:31.715
I found the hobby through TikTok.
00:01:31.926 --> 00:01:43.555
I remember kind of just scrolling on the app and it was during the time that the 25th anniversary was approaching and they started to do the first partner packs.
00:01:43.665 --> 00:01:47.566
They were like jumbo Pokemon cards and it came with two special packs.
00:01:47.575 --> 00:01:58.888
I think there was every month they released a different partner pack leading up to the 25th anniversary and it was also the time where they started to have the Pokemon promo codes in McDonald's.
00:01:59.147 --> 00:02:02.207
So, those were two videos that kind of like stuck out to me.
00:02:02.578 --> 00:02:04.888
And my mom has always been a collector.
00:02:04.888 --> 00:02:07.537
I've always seen her collect many things growing up.
00:02:08.008 --> 00:02:12.008
And I thought to myself, hmm, you know, not much is going on.
00:02:12.638 --> 00:02:19.978
Maybe I should try to pick up a hobby, something that I can kind of focus on and keep me distracted from what's going on on the outside.
00:02:19.978 --> 00:02:22.237
And then we took a trip to McDonald's.
00:02:22.237 --> 00:02:27.518
We took a trip to several McDonald's actually, because I think the first one we went to didn't have any more packs.
00:02:28.068 --> 00:02:48.978
But the one that we did go to they told us one happy meal each I didn't realize the hectic mess I was getting myself into during COVID because it was like super difficult to get Pokemon cards during this time but I think that just kind of made me so much more eager and Excited to get into the hobby because now I was like on the hunt for Pokemon cards
00:02:49.675 --> 00:02:49.925
Wow.
00:02:49.925 --> 00:02:58.616
So it was like that exclusivity that you perceived, especially, you know, during the COVID times, Pokemon cards were more difficult to find that kind of made you engage and want to get into the trading card game.
00:02:58.866 --> 00:02:59.866
Yeah, exactly.
00:02:59.866 --> 00:03:02.257
It's, it was literally like I was hunting for Pokemon.
00:03:02.676 --> 00:03:05.317
And there was a couple of different sets out at the time.
00:03:05.317 --> 00:03:10.549
I think it was like Darkness Ablaze, Vivid Voltage, Battle Styles.
00:03:10.739 --> 00:03:14.318
Which is so funny thinking back, like Battle Styles was kind of like the reject set.
00:03:14.318 --> 00:03:15.329
No one really cared for it.
00:03:15.329 --> 00:03:23.968
Yeah, I remember those booster boxes once upon a time for like 70 bucks and that's like so unheard of but It didn't matter to me.
00:03:23.968 --> 00:03:30.079
Like whatever I saw in the store I was super excited to just grab it and then do like a little pack opening on tik tok.
00:03:30.118 --> 00:03:38.989
That's kind of how my creative content Started was I was doing like pack openings for whatever I found in stores
00:03:39.626 --> 00:03:40.325
and it's awesome.
00:03:40.325 --> 00:03:44.876
How you also got connected through Tik TOK and it's, you know, one of the more newer platforms.
00:03:45.075 --> 00:03:50.836
How important was it to kind of see that Pokemon content on that platform for you to get engaged with this franchise?
00:03:51.145 --> 00:03:55.256
Yeah, so I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
00:03:55.256 --> 00:04:00.156
I didn't know the extent of Pokemon cards, I guess, in general.
00:04:00.515 --> 00:04:03.395
And I remember we would go to the flea market.
00:04:03.395 --> 00:04:06.186
There's a local flea market by us, like, every Saturday.
00:04:06.566 --> 00:04:09.656
And I saw one of the vendors, he was selling Pokemon cards.
00:04:09.656 --> 00:04:29.716
And I think, like, He had some bulk too and bulk was probably like the first experience I had where it was like Understanding that there are different pokemon cards And different sets like my first tiktok video is me showing like three different magic carp cards And saying hey, could you guys like help me out?
00:04:29.716 --> 00:04:32.286
what is the difference between these three magic carps?
00:04:32.305 --> 00:04:44.745
Like I don't understand what's going on So as much as tiktok was a creative outlet for me it was also like a resource And I was really happy that the replies were not, you know, rude and mean.
00:04:44.745 --> 00:04:51.295
People were literally explaining to me like, oh, just look at the symbol on the bottom of the card and it tells you which set it's in.
00:04:51.555 --> 00:04:57.805
And then I had so many bulk cards from different sets and I thought, you know, gung ho jumping into the hobby.
00:04:57.805 --> 00:04:59.446
I'm going to master set everything.
00:04:59.456 --> 00:05:02.855
Little did I know that was going to be thousands of cards.
00:05:02.865 --> 00:05:06.906
So I dropped that idea real quick and then I kind of just.
00:05:07.500 --> 00:05:15.860
Shifted towards collecting my favorite cards from each set and then I shifted more so to like collecting cards of my favorite Pokemon
00:05:16.437 --> 00:05:20.387
It's interesting because I experienced the same thing even as a longtime Pokemon fan.
00:05:20.757 --> 00:05:23.978
So, I'm more familiar with the, classic sets.
00:05:24.117 --> 00:05:26.798
The ones that first came out, the base set, the jungle, and the fossil.
00:05:26.798 --> 00:05:28.218
So, I know how to read those.
00:05:28.617 --> 00:05:33.413
But when it came to modern, I had no idea, like, what was the difference.
00:05:33.423 --> 00:05:35.603
How do you keep track of which one is which set?
00:05:35.913 --> 00:05:39.692
And somebody had to sit down and explain it to me, and I found it so confusing.
00:05:39.862 --> 00:05:43.930
But it's great that, same with me, I had a positive experience to where they didn't mind teaching you.
00:05:43.930 --> 00:05:45.350
They didn't mind that you didn't know.
00:05:45.350 --> 00:05:49.420
Which is rather refreshing, because sometimes people expect you to be like, How do you not know this?
00:05:49.420 --> 00:05:50.521
I'm like, I don't know, dude.
00:05:50.521 --> 00:05:52.110
I ain't collected Pokemon cards before.
00:05:52.185 --> 00:05:54.036
Yeah, exactly, exactly.
00:05:54.255 --> 00:06:00.266
And I think also during that time, it was just like, a very nostalgic time period for everybody.
00:06:00.276 --> 00:06:10.946
You know, everybody's locked up inside and they might be going through boxes trying to entertain themselves and then they might have found their old Pokemon binder and been like, Ugh, remember when?
00:06:10.946 --> 00:06:15.156
And then it kind of just re sparks that fire that people had in them.
00:06:15.726 --> 00:06:17.786
You said you collect cards of your favorite Pokemon.
00:06:17.966 --> 00:06:19.367
What is your favorite Pokemon?
00:06:19.757 --> 00:06:25.737
So, I wanna say it's a hard tie between Canto9tales and Casform.
00:06:26.146 --> 00:06:29.617
Casform, I know, is gonna get me like a slight side eye.
00:06:29.666 --> 00:06:33.576
I know there's a big Poketuber that loves Casform as well.
00:06:33.877 --> 00:06:37.637
But, in one of the sets, it was chilling rain.
00:06:37.911 --> 00:06:39.961
There was the artwork for Castform.
00:06:39.971 --> 00:06:45.442
He was just like a little knitted ball and I was like, oh my god He's so adorable and i'm a sucker.
00:06:45.742 --> 00:06:55.622
I'm a sucker for adorable pokemon So that's why Castform has been one of my favorites and trying to pick a favorite form Uh, I think the rain is so cute.
00:06:55.951 --> 00:06:56.372
I really
00:06:56.497 --> 00:06:57.247
That's a good one.
00:06:57.286 --> 00:07:00.107
Yeah And, uh, you said Ninetales was your other one.
00:07:00.107 --> 00:07:01.776
I'm get You said Kanto specifically.
00:07:01.776 --> 00:07:04.867
What about Kanto and Ninetales compared to the other one that you like about it?
00:07:05.237 --> 00:07:16.485
I think generally When it comes to my favorites, I think I gravitate more towards like fire Pokemon when I played the TCG I really liked the Charizard deck when I played BTC I really loved using Arcanine.
00:07:16.485 --> 00:07:24.896
Arcanine was on my first BTC team that I used when I went to compete So I feel like I kind of just gravitate more towards fire types.
00:07:25.105 --> 00:07:30.367
The Alolan Ninetales has grown on me though Especially like I said, just playing, BGC competitively.
00:07:30.367 --> 00:07:33.817
You just kind of like see what fits better on teams and stuff like that.
00:07:34.137 --> 00:07:36.685
But I have love for both Ninetales forms.
00:07:37.285 --> 00:07:42.545
Now you mentioned how, you know, you started doing the VGC side, I guess at some point you got into the games.
00:07:42.725 --> 00:07:44.295
What was your first Pokemon game?
00:07:44.862 --> 00:07:51.591
So, when I was collecting, someone I went to high school with also was collecting and we kind of bonded over that.
00:07:51.612 --> 00:07:55.079
And then he had asked me one day, have you ever, tried to play the card game?
00:07:55.079 --> 00:07:56.838
And I was like, uh, no, I, I didn't.
00:07:57.249 --> 00:07:59.059
So, I learned how to play the game.
00:07:59.059 --> 00:08:00.468
I learned how to play the TCG.
00:08:00.869 --> 00:08:05.168
And the first deck that I ever played was Flying Pikachu and Arceus.
00:08:05.908 --> 00:08:07.189
And it was fun.
00:08:07.199 --> 00:08:11.619
It was, it was cool, but it was a little stressful at the same time.
00:08:12.009 --> 00:08:17.749
When you compare TCG to VGC, I feel like VGC is a lot harder to learn.
00:08:17.759 --> 00:08:21.658
There's a lot more information that you should know off the top of your head.
00:08:21.939 --> 00:08:24.399
As opposed to TCG, the cards are right there.
00:08:24.399 --> 00:08:26.528
You can read a card if you don't know what it does.
00:08:26.579 --> 00:08:28.769
So it was a lot easier to kind of learn.
00:08:29.098 --> 00:08:30.668
but it was more stressful to play.
00:08:30.853 --> 00:08:43.183
In tournaments for TCG you have to do a best of three in 50 minutes and depending on the deck you play, depending on how your opponent plays, how fast or slow they play, you might not be able to finish in those 50 minutes.
00:08:43.183 --> 00:08:49.094
So it was just a little bit stressful and I knew that I didn't want to leave the competitive scene.
00:08:49.094 --> 00:08:59.063
I've been like an athlete my whole life so the competitive nature in me was just like find something else to do and that's how I kind of segued into BGC you.
00:08:59.203 --> 00:09:05.594
And I had my Switch, I got my OLED as soon as it dropped, but I, I didn't really play it.
00:09:05.673 --> 00:09:13.832
So I have Sword, and I played it, For about an hour, and then I got bored, I guess you could say, and then I stopped playing.
00:09:14.357 --> 00:09:14.888
Right.
00:09:15.092 --> 00:09:24.432
And then when I said that I wanted to switch to VGC, It was, I think it was at Hartford Regional, when I did like really really bad playing in CCG, and I was like, You know what?
00:09:24.462 --> 00:09:25.793
I'm not gonna give up Pokemon.
00:09:25.802 --> 00:09:42.351
I'm gonna play VGC, and I think that weekend in Hartford, I bought My Scarlet copy at the GameStop over there and I was playing in the venue day two because I didn't make day two So I remember playing and then my friend who had recently just tried to play VGC for fun was like, oh, yeah So, you know all about the tear up mechanic.
00:09:42.351 --> 00:09:43.182
I was like what?
00:09:43.631 --> 00:09:44.581
What does that mean?
00:09:46.001 --> 00:10:03.950
So, I grinded out the video game, grinded out playing Violet for a month to, you know, unlock and catch all the Pokemon that I thought I would need for the tournament and then there I was in Ohio, just a little sitting duck for any of my opponents, but I ended up doing pretty well.
00:10:03.950 --> 00:10:04.568
I think I was pretty good.
00:10:04.970 --> 00:10:07.100
I won four games and I lost five.
00:10:07.100 --> 00:10:19.875
So they said at an NAIC that's a pretty good record to have but I would say Violet is the first Pokemon game that I've played in its entirety and that I beat and it holds a very very special place in my heart.
00:10:19.916 --> 00:10:21.306
I am not ready to let it go.
00:10:21.306 --> 00:10:25.000
I know everybody's excited but I'm not ready to let go of Scarlet and Violet.
00:10:25.437 --> 00:10:29.518
I was wondering, so, You know, as an athlete, and I don't know what sport you play, for me, I played basketball.
00:10:29.788 --> 00:10:31.768
And, you know, I always wanted to be a big man growing up.
00:10:31.768 --> 00:10:33.447
I wanted to be, like, a center or a power forward.
00:10:33.447 --> 00:10:37.357
And then, uh, coach got to me and was like, Dave, you 5'9 you can't be a center.
00:10:37.618 --> 00:10:44.519
So But what I mean by that is, when you have that competitive nature, it's hard to kind of say, like, I can't do this.
00:10:44.778 --> 00:10:46.058
Because you kind of want to push through it.
00:10:46.448 --> 00:10:48.649
But it takes some wisdom to realize I can do this though.
00:10:48.658 --> 00:10:54.219
And I think, can I see that similarity when you decide TCG may not be for me, but BGC that's more my jam.
00:10:54.349 --> 00:10:55.168
Do you feel like that way?
00:10:55.458 --> 00:11:03.849
Yeah, I, I totally get you, like, I'm 5'4 however, I defied the odds and I was a middle blocker in volleyball.
00:11:03.908 --> 00:11:08.408
Yeah, I got, I got hops, so, it's all, it's all about timing when it
00:11:08.589 --> 00:11:10.298
She's ready to she's ready to dunk on you, man.
00:11:10.298 --> 00:11:11.635
Wow.
00:11:11.635 --> 00:11:12.974
Yeah.
00:11:13.282 --> 00:11:21.234
I think when it comes to being competitive in Pokemon, like I said, it was a lot easier to learn the TCG.
00:11:21.644 --> 00:11:26.109
My first TCG tournament was Knoxville and I actually did really well.
00:11:26.418 --> 00:11:30.548
I won 5 games, I tied 2, and I lost 2.
00:11:30.908 --> 00:11:36.188
So back then, I think it was 19 points to make Day 2, and I had 18.
00:11:36.339 --> 00:11:39.869
So at my first TCG tournament, I almost made Day 2.
00:11:39.918 --> 00:11:40.933
I was just one point behind.
00:11:41.063 --> 00:11:42.114
one point shy.
00:11:42.474 --> 00:11:48.394
And I think that's kind of what got me was like, I just got here and I'm already so good.
00:11:48.413 --> 00:11:50.833
And then when I went to Hartford, I like shit the bed.
00:11:51.214 --> 00:11:57.293
So it was, it was funny, but it really goes to show just like any other school.
00:11:57.793 --> 00:12:00.604
It's all about the time that you put into it, right?
00:12:00.874 --> 00:12:03.524
I put in a lot of time before I went to Knoxville.
00:12:03.524 --> 00:12:13.173
I practiced, you know, I played mu v max and I played the version that had fusion strike energy And a lot of people were on the different version at the time.
00:12:13.173 --> 00:12:15.884
They were playing double turbo I was like, no, no, no, at least it's sparkle.
00:12:15.884 --> 00:12:16.604
At least it's sparkle.
00:12:17.053 --> 00:12:21.837
but I didn't, I didn't wanna leave it like you said, but with VGC, it's a lot.
00:12:21.837 --> 00:12:23.758
It's information overload, right?
00:12:23.788 --> 00:12:27.447
I am 26 years late to the game.
00:12:27.447 --> 00:12:31.048
I didn't play fire red or any of that stuff as a kid.
00:12:31.168 --> 00:12:33.357
I don't know anything about the tar type chart.
00:12:33.538 --> 00:12:35.337
I have to learn all this as I go.
00:12:35.337 --> 00:12:40.427
So it's a lot of information and even though I don't have.
00:12:40.462 --> 00:12:42.442
the records that I would like.
00:12:42.462 --> 00:12:53.052
It's taken like some maturity to realize, you know, I'm playing against some people who've been playing since they were five, you know, and I have years and years of catching up to do.
00:12:53.355 --> 00:13:13.280
so trying to take this in, in strides and in baby steps and accepting that I'm not going to be the world champion of 2025 or 2026 likely because I have so much to catch up on and I think that's kind of what's contributing to the journey in a positive way for me.
00:13:13.291 --> 00:13:38.234
It's allowing me to take the small wins, whether it's one win here at a tournament or a couple wins on the ranked ladder during stream just really taking in the experience for what it is and Understanding that you know, I'm a working adult too I don't have as much free time as I would like to invest in the game But I'm still able to enjoy it while I can and learn all that I can while I'm here
00:14:26.259 --> 00:14:30.528
On that note, because you mentioned, you gave some insight to just like the challenges that come with it.
00:14:30.629 --> 00:14:32.979
A, you're a content creator, you're creating content on the side.
00:14:33.229 --> 00:14:35.558
B, you have the full time job.
00:14:35.558 --> 00:14:37.918
This isn't your full time gig, just trying to be competitive.
00:14:38.318 --> 00:14:39.019
What is it?
00:14:39.129 --> 00:14:43.509
I guess the behind the scenes of the prep work that goes into preparing for Pokemon BGC.
00:14:43.509 --> 00:14:44.778
I can
00:14:45.149 --> 00:14:49.389
Yeah, so I The first thing, I mean the first thing you need, right, is a team.
00:14:49.399 --> 00:14:58.624
You have to decide your six Pokemon that you're bringing to an event and It takes a lot of trial and error, I think.
00:14:58.634 --> 00:15:00.344
You know, there's different play styles.
00:15:00.354 --> 00:15:03.374
There's people who like teams that require some setup.
00:15:03.604 --> 00:15:05.994
There's people who like hyper offensive teams.
00:15:05.994 --> 00:15:07.624
For some reason, I'm one of those people.
00:15:07.624 --> 00:15:09.673
I just love to see stuff go boom, right?
00:15:09.948 --> 00:15:10.328
the fire.
00:15:10.328 --> 00:15:10.428
Yeah,
00:15:10.553 --> 00:15:13.244
Yeah, I love when stuff goes boom.
00:15:13.433 --> 00:15:18.764
And then you have your slower players who like to, you know, manipulate the speed and go for trick room.
00:15:19.144 --> 00:15:23.849
So I think that finding your playstyle is the first step.
00:15:24.048 --> 00:15:24.969
That's the pregame.
00:15:25.298 --> 00:15:26.099
That's the warm up.
00:15:26.149 --> 00:15:27.359
And then picking your team.
00:15:27.698 --> 00:15:32.308
And then you have to kinda like, refine your team constantly.
00:15:32.308 --> 00:15:40.938
Like, before we got on here I was watching a little bit of Wolf's World documentary where he was talking about the process of building his world's team.
00:15:42.068 --> 00:15:51.729
Seeing someone who this is their full time job and how much time and effort he puts into his team, it gives you perspective at the same time where it's like, okay, you know what?
00:15:52.139 --> 00:15:57.688
I can't beat myself up for not being great at this game because there are some people who dedicate hours.
00:15:57.859 --> 00:16:03.129
and hours to team building and practicing on showdown or on the ranked ladder.
00:16:03.369 --> 00:16:11.698
Bouncing ideas off with other people in the, in the scene and figuring out, you know, through trial and error, what's good and what's not.
00:16:11.708 --> 00:16:23.999
So really just kind of keeping yourself grounded in that perspective and just saying like, you know, maybe I could be a breakout star, but that's kind of like a, not in a one in a million, maybe like one in a couple thousand.
00:16:23.999 --> 00:16:32.604
Cause you know, Events only have like a couple thousand people but Just kind of understanding and accepting, you know what it is for me.
00:16:32.724 --> 00:16:37.644
Um, So a lot of times I don't go to too many events each year.
00:16:37.644 --> 00:16:56.188
I might go to like one or two depending and When I have a date in mind, like let's say when it's January, let's say I wanted to compete in June at NAIC, I have these months to prepare and try to figure out, okay, which restricted, which legendary Pokemon do I kind of vibe with?
00:16:56.438 --> 00:16:59.389
Okay, what's my play style around this specific Pokemon?
00:16:59.589 --> 00:17:00.889
And then I kind of go from there.
00:17:00.889 --> 00:17:06.469
You kind of just kind of try to build upon the team as you work through the kinks here and there.
00:17:07.048 --> 00:17:11.199
And you know, during this whole time, you're learning about the type charge, you're trying to be competitive in VGC.
00:17:11.388 --> 00:17:12.659
You're still creating content.
00:17:12.888 --> 00:17:16.098
Did you start transitioning your content from the TCG into the VGC?
00:17:16.128 --> 00:17:18.028
Like you started showing videos about that as well.
00:17:18.374 --> 00:17:20.284
Yes, that's exactly what happened.
00:17:20.284 --> 00:17:25.554
So, as my journey as a Pokemon trainer evolved, so did my content.
00:17:25.564 --> 00:18:02.840
So, originally I was doing pack openings, and then I started to show some of the decks that I was playing, and Do kind of like deck profiles and then when I moved into bgc Then I kind of did like pokemon profiles like pokedex entries and talking about specific pokemon I remember I did a video on hisui and arcanine at the time when he was introduced into the format I think he had won like four regionals back to back so I really like that I am kind of learning and I can share the process of me learning with other people who are probably just getting into the game.
00:18:03.290 --> 00:18:07.490
And I think that's kind of what my YouTube channel is centered around.
00:18:07.490 --> 00:18:12.711
It's like me and other new trainers getting into the game and us kind of learning it together.
00:18:12.990 --> 00:18:19.800
It is a little bit challenging though because I'm not someone who really enjoys talking on something that I don't have knowledge on.
00:18:20.030 --> 00:18:29.461
So it's a bit Frustrating sometimes when I have an idea for a video, but I can't explain it the best that I would like to because I just don't have the knowledge, right?
00:18:29.461 --> 00:18:46.971
So some videos might take longer than others to edit, some games when I'm playing on stream that I could have won I didn't because I didn't know whether it's a speed tier or a specific matchup, everything that I'm going through I'm kind of going through for the first time and my audience is kind of going through it the first time with me.
00:18:47.354 --> 00:18:51.864
So I think that is something that makes everything that I'm doing a little bit unique.
00:18:52.193 --> 00:18:57.294
And another thing, you know, we mentioned the community being so, like, welcoming and encouraging.
00:18:57.662 --> 00:19:04.571
That's something that has also motivated me, you know, going to events and hearing people say, Oh, I saw your video on BGC resources.
00:19:04.571 --> 00:19:05.731
Like, that was so helpful.
00:19:05.731 --> 00:19:06.311
Like, thank you.
00:19:06.311 --> 00:19:08.582
I can find all these things in one place.
00:19:09.051 --> 00:19:19.582
And yeah, yeah, it's, it's, it's super rewarding to see and feel what you're putting so much effort into, whether it's your full time job or not.
00:19:19.852 --> 00:19:27.241
Seeing the effort that you put in make a difference to someone else, you know, hearing people say, Oh, I got into VGC because of you.
00:19:27.241 --> 00:19:28.241
I was watching your stream.
00:19:28.251 --> 00:19:29.221
Like that means a lot to me.
00:19:29.221 --> 00:19:40.659
That means more to me than the satisfaction that I get from my full time job, Just just finding the little joy here and there and then just having those people come up to me at events It means so much to me
00:19:41.231 --> 00:19:52.719
You know, in a way you're almost like a Ash Ketchum in a sense to where when you think about, let me think about it, like you get your audience to kind of engage into you as a person that, Hey, I don't know everything.
00:19:52.719 --> 00:20:01.318
I just started playing Pokemon and this is kind of my story and it allows your audience to kind of engage and see you kind of grow through the growing pains, because it's always about the journey, right?
00:20:01.348 --> 00:20:03.138
Any good story, it's the journey.
00:20:03.138 --> 00:20:04.499
It's never the final destination.
00:20:04.548 --> 00:20:05.499
Yeah, absolutely
00:20:05.648 --> 00:20:07.459
they get to kind of ride along with that.
00:20:07.459 --> 00:20:11.538
road that you take to where you're learning like, Oh, I don't know if it's this or that.
00:20:11.848 --> 00:20:13.669
It's almost like a living blog in a sense.
00:20:13.929 --> 00:20:17.713
Yeah, pretty much You're gonna make that comment go to my head.
00:20:17.713 --> 00:20:20.733
I'm like, yeah, you know, I'm, I was told I'm like Ash Ketchum, you know.
00:20:22.699 --> 00:20:27.398
You're the one after third, you're gonna be, uh, Uh, not, I think it's Liko down at the end, I can't remember her name.
00:20:27.403 --> 00:20:28.554
Yeah, yeah, Liko.
00:20:29.028 --> 00:20:34.949
We talked about the Pokemon community, and you said, you know, they're so welcome, they've been so encouraging, and you got to attend live events.
00:20:35.259 --> 00:20:40.259
What was it like for you to attend your first live event, and be around a whole bunch of Pokemon fans?
00:20:40.288 --> 00:20:41.118
Was it odd?
00:20:41.128 --> 00:20:42.259
Did you feel kind of at home?
00:20:42.824 --> 00:20:48.443
Yeah, so, thinking back to Knoxville, that being my first event, I was super, super nervous.
00:20:48.463 --> 00:20:54.824
I had no idea what to expect because I had played with my best friend, you know, we practiced.
00:20:55.013 --> 00:21:01.723
Remember, sometimes we'd go to Applebee's and just like play at the table, and then I'd go to my local card shop and play a little bit there.
00:21:01.723 --> 00:21:05.493
And, you know, it's familiar faces, so you feel a little bit more comfortable.
