TRAINER'S EYE #16 -

In this Pokemon interview, my guest Dankadoo share her experience with playing Pokemon GO during the height of the COVID pandemic in 2020.

Dankadoo also shares the challenges she faces playing in an area with limited resources and how remote raids and Adventure Sync have improved her gameplay.  She will also share her interest in horses and you get to hear a live reaction of her seeing  the unreleased Pokemon Mudspray and Mudsdale.

Moreover, Dankadoo highlights the significance of the Pokémon GO Discord community in improving her gameplay experience. With the support and advice of her fellow players, Dankadoo has been able to navigate the challenges of the game and find new ways to enjoy it.

Trainer's Eye is a series where the stories are real and people still play this game. From PVP to Shiny Hunting, each person's Pokemon GO journey is unique and we dive into each journey here on As The Pokeball Turns!

00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:03.479
My name is David Hernandez and you're listening to As The Pokeball Turns.

00:00:44.033 --> 00:00:46.792
Welcome to an episode of As The Pokeball Turns.

00:00:47.090 --> 00:00:50.030
Today is episode 16 of Trainer's Eyes.

00:00:50.329 --> 00:00:57.409
A segment where we get to hear from you, the community on how your Pokemon Go journey started, where it has been, and where it is currently going.

00:00:57.713 --> 00:01:01.843
Where we start in life can have huge implications on our experiences.

00:01:02.140 --> 00:01:06.219
This is further exemplified when you consider it in the context of Pokemon Go.

00:01:06.519 --> 00:01:14.709
Some of us started this game upon launch and remember the old gym system, lack of XP bonuses, and the content drought the first few months of the game.

00:01:15.007 --> 00:01:15.727
Raids?

00:01:16.022 --> 00:01:19.072
Back in my day the only raids were the ones I did in my fridge at midnight.

00:01:19.370 --> 00:01:28.170
Meanwhile, others joined the game later on, whether it be with the introduction of the RAID system, the debut of shiny Pokemon with shiny Magikarp, or even the launch of pvp.

00:01:28.472 --> 00:01:30.212
We all start in different places.

00:01:30.512 --> 00:01:32.462
It's what makes our stories unique.

00:01:32.757 --> 00:01:38.158
It's what shapes our view of the current state of the game and how we react with certain events and updates.

00:01:38.457 --> 00:01:51.715
For some of us, seeing a shiny already available in the game, released for Community Day is quote unquote"repeat content." But for others, this is their first chance to obtain the shiny Pokemon since they didn't play at the time of release.

00:01:52.018 --> 00:01:59.653
With all that being said, can you imagine that there are players who started Pokemon Go in 2020 during times of self quarantine and social distancing?

00:01:59.950 --> 00:02:09.639
Their game starting point was with boosted incense, an increased radius to reach Pokestops and Gyms, and remote play being the norm when it came to P V P and raids.

00:02:09.937 --> 00:02:20.937
There are players who have no idea what Raid trains are, what nests are, that there were walking requirements to participate in GBL, or what even in-person events looked like for the game.

00:02:21.234 --> 00:02:28.008
For my guest today, not only was she introduced to Pokemon through Pokemon Go, but she also started her journey in 2020.

00:02:28.306 --> 00:02:31.395
Here is her origin story into the world of Pokemon Go.

00:02:31.699 --> 00:02:33.288
This is Dankadoo.

00:02:34.461 --> 00:02:36.171
Today I am joined by Dana.

00:02:36.467 --> 00:02:43.997
For those who don't know, Dana is actually a trainer who came out around 2020 and she's gonna share her story on how she came to this game and what it was like.

00:02:44.300 --> 00:02:45.600
Dana, welcome to the show!

00:02:46.200 --> 00:02:47.371
Thank you so much.

00:02:47.975 --> 00:02:53.945
Definitely and before we do get started, we've talked off the air about it and you said you played Pokemon Go during the Covid.

00:02:53.945 --> 00:02:54.605
That's correct?

00:02:55.210 --> 00:02:56.860
Correct that's when I picked it up.

00:02:57.156 --> 00:03:05.746
My son started in the very beginning and I would take him around, so that he could play and it was just a great way for me to get to spend some time with a teenager at the time.

00:03:06.043 --> 00:03:10.022
Then he lost interest and, I picked up his account during Covid in 2020.

00:03:10.626 --> 00:03:13.325
So when it first came out in 2016, you were taking your son.

00:03:13.629 --> 00:03:16.509
Were you like taking him to places or were you kinda like driving around to play?

00:03:17.106 --> 00:03:18.606
I would drive him around to play.

00:03:18.907 --> 00:03:25.086
I picked him up after school, I would drive him around, to different spots and then connect with some of his friends that he was real close with.

00:03:25.086 --> 00:03:26.192
around our local town.

00:03:26.497 --> 00:03:35.129
So if I picked him up after school, I would drive him around just our little town and he might meet up with some friends Just a fun way to spend a little bit of time with him as he played.

00:03:35.729 --> 00:03:39.159
During this time when your son was playing, did you have any interest in picking up the game at all?

00:03:39.763 --> 00:03:43.143
I didn't, um, I really didn't know anything about it at all.

00:03:43.443 --> 00:03:47.372
I still don't know a whole lot about it, but I just enjoyed watching him play.

00:03:47.669 --> 00:03:51.675
So I never thought about myself playing and at the time he didn't have his own phone.

00:03:51.977 --> 00:03:55.396
I don't think he had gotten his phone till after that, so he would just use mine.

00:03:55.997 --> 00:04:04.037
So it was just more of a way for you to bond with your sons, cuz you said he was a teenager and you were just being supportive as a mother to help your son enjoy the game that he loves.

00:04:04.037 --> 00:04:04.667
Yes.

00:04:04.667 --> 00:04:05.806
Yes, exactly.

00:04:06.412 --> 00:04:09.771
So we fast forward to, I guess 2020, it's four years afterwards.

00:04:10.072 --> 00:04:12.372
What made you wanna pick up Pokemon Go?

00:04:12.967 --> 00:04:21.608
Well, it's interesting because I started working for a gentleman, who his wife had traveled back to China to be with her father who was ill and that's when Covid hit.

00:04:21.904 --> 00:04:28.144
And there was a two week quarantine there and a two week quarantine here for her to get back to the States.

00:04:28.442 --> 00:04:33.101
So they were just going to kind of ride it out, not knowing what was gonna be ahead.

00:04:33.398 --> 00:04:35.937
So he needed some help with, his three young children.

00:04:36.237 --> 00:04:38.848
Somebody to be there after they got outta school.

00:04:39.148 --> 00:04:46.105
So I started, going over there in the afternoons and helping him with the little ones, which then turned into them having online schooling.

00:04:46.404 --> 00:04:53.154
So I was helping with all their online learning and one day he was in the kitchen and I looked down and he was playing Pokemon.

00:04:53.454 --> 00:04:55.134
I said, are you playing Pokemon?

00:04:55.432 --> 00:05:03.711
Cause he's about my age, which I'm 54, and I thought, I can't believe he's playing Pokemon." And he goes,"yeah!" And he was very serious about it.

00:05:04.007 --> 00:05:10.987
And the kids, then I found out they played, and so I thought,"well, I'm gonna download it so I can play with the kids." And then that's where it all started.

00:05:11.285 --> 00:05:13.625
Just started playing and then I got hooked.

00:05:13.930 --> 00:05:19.480
The gentleman that had hired me to come help with his kids, he had friends that he played with from Germany.

00:05:19.776 --> 00:05:25.951
I don't know if it was because that he played all the time at his house, but Pokemon would spawn like crazy at his house.

00:05:26.259 --> 00:05:27.728
I had never seen anything like that.

00:05:28.028 --> 00:05:30.819
So that was exciting and that was where I got started.

00:05:31.422 --> 00:05:37.394
Definitely! One thing I've always noticed, maybe you can confirm, Whenever I used to work around people who were much older than I am.

00:05:37.694 --> 00:05:45.675
Who were like in their fifties and sixties and their idea of playing a game like Pokemon Go is kind of foreign from my experience.

00:05:45.971 --> 00:05:55.752
Like for me, playing games, people my age, playing games is natural, but when you get to like a certain age, it seems like it's not something that's natural, like it's something that's forbidden, for lack of a better word.

00:05:56.048 --> 00:05:57.098
Do you ever feel that way?

00:05:57.694 --> 00:05:59.314
I did in the beginning.

00:05:59.612 --> 00:06:02.492
I'm a big kid at heart, probably always will be.

00:06:02.800 --> 00:06:05.254
And our whole family, we love to have fun.

00:06:05.254 --> 00:06:11.345
even as adults with our kids, we would play hide and go seek in the trees at nighttime and we just love to have fun.

00:06:11.644 --> 00:06:16.865
I've always enjoyed playing games, and it might just be solitaire on my phone or something like that.

00:06:17.168 --> 00:06:18.608
But I thought, you know, here I am.

00:06:18.908 --> 00:06:20.499
What am I doing playing Pokemon?

00:06:20.798 --> 00:06:27.278
And my family loves to give me a hard time about it too, nobody else plays but me, but they're very supportive at the same time.

00:06:27.581 --> 00:06:54.432
When I went in person to, one of the events and I saw an older couple that are like probably in their sixties, maybe seventies, playing, walking around together and I thought,"okay, that's so cool." And then in one of the Facebook groups, somebody asked the question, you know,"how old is everybody?" And I saw how many people were my age or even older that were playing that did it either as a couple or just to get outside or for different reasons.

00:06:54.735 --> 00:06:57.706
And then I thought, okay, so I'm not the only one my age playing.

00:06:58.002 --> 00:07:01.512
And it made me feel a little bit better that I, here I am at 54 playing Pokemon

00:07:02.601 --> 00:07:09.742
So what is it about Pokemon in general that's just a hesitancy at first or just a game like Pokemon is just that you're kind of too old for it kind of thing?

00:07:10.346 --> 00:07:11.396
You know, it's a kid's game.

00:07:11.692 --> 00:07:16.432
I'm too old to be playing that, I'm a mother and now a grandmother, and here I am playing a Pokemon game.

00:07:16.836 --> 00:07:20.225
But it's fun, for me it's a great escape from life.

00:07:20.521 --> 00:07:22.411
Adulting is not always fun.

00:07:23.132 --> 00:07:26.432
you know, that the truth.

00:07:26.728 --> 00:07:30.449
So you getting to go play and have fun and I can take it with me.

00:07:30.745 --> 00:07:36.985
It's not like I have to go somewhere to play, if I have a few minutes to play, I can just jump on my phone wherever I am and play.

00:07:37.291 --> 00:07:38.281
So it's fun.

00:07:38.882 --> 00:07:41.312
What is it about Pokemon Go that got you hooked?

00:07:41.612 --> 00:07:45.002
I think for me I love little surprises.

00:07:45.298 --> 00:07:52.879
My husband always says I'm the easiest person to buy for cuz he can buy just the most simple little bitty gift or something and I get so excited about it and I really do.

00:07:53.312 --> 00:07:59.086
So, if there's a new Pokemon, or one that I don't have, or the chance of getting a shiny, I get so excited.

00:07:59.389 --> 00:08:01.579
It doesn't matter if they have crap stats.

00:08:01.879 --> 00:08:04.610
If I get something new, it's super exciting.

00:08:05.206 --> 00:08:08.985
With your brief experience in Pokemon Go, do you have like a particular favorite at all?

00:08:09.581 --> 00:08:15.362
I do, and it's probably not what most people would think of as being a favorite, but I love Ponyta and Rapidash.

00:08:15.661 --> 00:08:19.141
I guess my favorite is the Galarian Shiny is my favorite.

00:08:19.440 --> 00:08:27.141
And that's, that comes from my background, I grew up and rode horses and competed in rodeos and rodeo pageants my whole life.

00:08:27.440 --> 00:08:30.680
So that's the closest one to a horse, so that's why it's my favorite.

00:08:31.283 --> 00:08:35.224
Sounds like Ponyta and Rapidash remind you of back in the day when you used to ride horses.

00:08:35.224 --> 00:08:36.964
Yes, very much so.

00:08:37.303 --> 00:08:38.104
And they're cute.

00:08:38.703 --> 00:08:40.744
How long ago did you used to ride horses?

00:08:41.341 --> 00:08:44.490
I have not ridden in quite a few years.

00:08:44.787 --> 00:08:49.586
My daughter competed and after she graduated high school, that's probably when it all kind of stopped.

00:08:49.890 --> 00:08:55.140
Our son just graduated high school, but he didn't compete in rodeos, he showed, show pigs.

00:08:55.437 --> 00:08:57.567
So we traveled with him doing that.

00:08:57.866 --> 00:09:06.476
My sister had some horses and I would still ride with her some, but it's been a long time, but I've rodeoed all through high school and college, and then that's where I quit competitively.

00:09:07.081 --> 00:09:11.100
So this is why I asked this question because for Pokemon fans, we grew with the anime.

00:09:11.400 --> 00:09:14.900
There's a scene where the main character rides Rapidash.

00:09:15.201 --> 00:09:18.081
But he rides that without any saddle or equipment.

00:09:18.384 --> 00:09:22.433
How realistic is that from somebody who has familiarity with horses?

00:09:23.030 --> 00:09:25.400
If they are well trained, you absolutely can.

00:09:25.701 --> 00:09:27.650
I had a horse that I could ride like that.

00:09:27.943 --> 00:09:33.884
I had him for probably fourteen years and there was just a connection there, and a lot of trust.

00:09:34.187 --> 00:09:36.767
I could trust him that he was not gonna run off.

00:09:37.067 --> 00:09:46.042
You spend a lot of time in a small area training with your, you use your legs to cue them to, stop turn, because you don't have a saddle or a bridal that you're riding with.

00:09:46.341 --> 00:09:49.471
It's not the norm, but it absolutely is possible.

00:09:50.072 --> 00:09:55.831
So it sounds like the saddle is more for the horses that you don't entirely trust or you're afraid that they might get scared.

00:09:55.831 --> 00:09:56.792
Is that fair to say?

00:09:57.392 --> 00:10:02.282
Yes, because the only thing you have, if you're not riding with a saddle, is your leg strength to hold you on.

00:10:02.881 --> 00:10:06.211
So do you know about the other horse Pokemon that's in Pokemon?

00:10:06.399 --> 00:10:06.749
No.

00:10:07.048 --> 00:10:10.587
So there's actually one more horse Pokemon besides the Ponyta and Rapidash line.

00:10:10.892 --> 00:10:13.302
It's called Mudbray and Mudsdale.

00:10:13.322 --> 00:10:14.912
But it's not in Pokemon Go yet?

00:10:15.211 --> 00:10:17.491
Not yet, but it should be coming around the corner.

00:10:17.794 --> 00:10:19.325
It looks like a big Bronco.

00:10:19.927 --> 00:10:21.427
Oh, that's exciting.

00:10:21.725 --> 00:10:26.465
Now you gave me something else to look forward to, I'll have to stick with Pokemon Go until that, at least that one.

00:10:27.061 --> 00:10:28.801
I'm surprised your son hasn't told you about it yet.

00:10:28.801 --> 00:10:29.280
I figured.

00:10:29.280 --> 00:10:29.671
I know.

00:10:29.671 --> 00:10:30.091
Me, him.

00:10:30.091 --> 00:10:31.020
Ask him about it.

00:10:31.624 --> 00:10:32.134
Definitely.

00:10:32.134 --> 00:10:34.474
So I don't know if you can see it, I sent you a message.

00:10:34.772 --> 00:10:38.552
I wanna get your live reaction of Mudsdale and Mudbray, if you can look at my dm.

00:10:41.385 --> 00:10:42.255
Oh yes.

00:10:42.525 --> 00:10:42.916
Okay.

00:10:42.921 --> 00:10:45.225
So it's looking at me playing Fords coming in the Pokemon Go.

00:10:45.225 --> 00:10:45.975
For sure.

00:10:46.274 --> 00:10:49.836
Those are awesome! Awesome! I love the evolution, I love both of them.

00:10:50.155 --> 00:10:51.105
They are so cute.

00:10:51.706 --> 00:10:54.686
Yeah, the one on the left, like I said, it looks like a donkey, but that's Mudbray.

00:10:55.001 --> 00:10:57.072
The one on the right's Mudsdale, that's the evolution.

00:10:57.676 --> 00:10:59.865
That's great that looks just like a donkey.

00:11:00.173 --> 00:11:09.793
And that probably comes from, the Dale is a Clydesdale, is a draft horse that's very large and he looks very similar to Clydesdale, so I bet that's where the name came from.

00:11:09.793 --> 00:11:11.443
That is exactly what it's based off of.

00:11:11.443 --> 00:11:13.094
I'm impressed you can recognize that.

00:11:13.855 --> 00:11:18.235
So a donkey brays, you know when like a horse nays, a donkey will bray.

00:11:18.532 --> 00:11:20.481
So Mudbray that's where they're getting that name.

00:11:20.784 --> 00:11:21.865
That's so cool!

00:11:21.865 --> 00:11:23.904
Wait, what does it mean for a horse to Bray?

00:11:23.904 --> 00:11:24.654
I'm curious.

00:11:25.254 --> 00:11:27.355
A horse will nay, they'll nicker.

00:11:29.683 --> 00:11:32.514
But donkeys will make their bray sound.

00:11:34.289 --> 00:11:35.850
I'm sure that's where they got that name.

00:11:35.850 --> 00:11:37.049
That's so cool.

00:11:37.049 --> 00:11:38.549
Today I learned I didn't know about that.

00:11:38.852 --> 00:11:39.932
Well, and I learned too.

00:11:39.932 --> 00:11:40.732
Thank you.

00:11:41.336 --> 00:11:41.937
You're very welcome.

00:11:41.937 --> 00:11:45.147
Last minute question, what's the difference between a horse and a Bronco?

00:11:45.750 --> 00:11:55.804
Bronco comes from more a term of wild animal, so there are a lot of wild horses, especially up like Montana, you know, in the, mountains, that are not domesticated.

00:11:56.107 --> 00:11:58.477
So it's kinda like wild cats or dogs.

00:11:58.778 --> 00:12:04.758
Horses are domesticated and they're bred with genetics and registered and much like cats or dogs.

00:12:05.054 --> 00:12:06.565
The Broncos are wild.

00:12:06.861 --> 00:12:11.662
That being said, horses that they use at rodeos, a lot of them are not wild.

00:12:12.258 --> 00:12:14.837
They can have a halter and can be led around.

00:12:15.134 --> 00:12:20.715
So when you hear of them at rodeos using Bronx, during the rodeo, not all of them are true.

00:12:20.720 --> 00:12:21.735
Wild Horses.

00:12:22.335 --> 00:12:25.205
So moving forward, obviously you picked the game up in 2020.

00:12:25.504 --> 00:12:28.384
What was it like for you trying to play or pick up your son's account?

00:12:28.985 --> 00:12:33.514
So when I started out, I knew very little and still don't know much as I would like to.

00:12:33.812 --> 00:12:35.731
I simply would catch Pokemon in the wild.

00:12:36.032 --> 00:12:40.552
My son would help me with the Discord group that he was in to be able to get into some raids.

00:12:40.856 --> 00:12:42.297
I just used the recommended.

00:12:43.767 --> 00:12:54.596
But when Go Fest 2021 came around, I saw all those legendaries that I wanted so bad and I thought I have to learn how to use Discord so that I can raid.

00:12:54.897 --> 00:12:57.547
There's not a lot of people that play here locally.

00:12:57.850 --> 00:13:05.789
So that was my challenge, was to learn how to use discord so that I could raid during Go Fest, and that's where I really started having a lot of fun.

00:13:06.126 --> 00:13:09.897
I probably used like a Pikachu or something in a raid and I'm like, That was me.

00:13:10.200 --> 00:13:15.715
But I slowly have learned a little bit more about, how to pick Pokemon for raids and, things like that.

00:13:16.011 --> 00:13:17.001
It's been a lot of fun.

00:13:17.601 --> 00:13:20.131
What is it like where you live right now to play Pokemon Go?

00:13:20.734 --> 00:13:31.350
There's nobody! I literally ran into two people, so there's very little opportunity to raid locally where I am and I don't really know anybody in this area that play.

00:13:31.650 --> 00:13:38.850
But the remote raids for me is the only way that I really have the opportunity to raid at all, unless it's a one or three star raid.

00:13:39.450 --> 00:13:44.304
Sounds like there's not many active players where you live, and it's just you and those people you found that play?

00:13:44.304 --> 00:13:44.605
Yes.

00:13:44.804 --> 00:13:47.154
I, I, I had met one other young kiddo.

00:13:47.154 --> 00:13:49.764
And we became friends, you know, on Pokemon.

00:13:50.065 --> 00:13:55.070
And now with campfire starting up, I'll be able to communicate with them and so we could possibly coordinate.

00:13:55.370 --> 00:13:58.269
But right now there's really not anything around me.

00:13:58.572 --> 00:14:02.293
There's one Poke stop that's within walking distance from my house.

00:14:02.590 --> 00:14:09.059
I live in a very rural area and then it's about 10, 15 miles into town to find any other Pokestops.

00:14:09.363 --> 00:14:12.673
So a lot of what I do, at least on the Raids is all remote.

00:14:13.269 --> 00:14:13.600
Right?

00:14:13.605 --> 00:14:25.149
And everything that's Niantic has changed over time, like when you came into this game, everything you knew was there and slowly Niantic has been changing back to how they used to do it before the pandemic.

00:14:25.450 --> 00:14:26.759
How do you feel about that?

00:14:27.363 --> 00:14:32.062
Well, I don't really have a frame of reference cuz I only know it from the pandemic to now.

00:14:32.363 --> 00:14:38.033
I understand their desire to get people out and walking and interacting and I do like that.

00:14:38.336 --> 00:14:42.686
For me, Dallas is not close by, that's my closest major city.

00:14:42.985 --> 00:14:47.426
So for me, having the opportunity to raid remotely is paramount.

00:14:47.725 --> 00:15:01.076
The new adventure incense that they started, that has been wonderful cuz I can go and walk out here where I live out in the country and still get to play and have the opportunity to come across some more rare Mons that I might not see otherwise.

00:15:01.375 --> 00:15:03.206
Do you use the adventure incense every day?

00:15:03.802 --> 00:15:11.202
Not every day, but if I'm at home then I definitely do cause otherwise I wouldn't really even have any spawn in the wild out here where I am.

00:15:11.802 --> 00:15:16.393
One of the things that Niantic added, and it's still pending, is the remote raids.

00:15:16.572 --> 00:15:20.113
That was not something that was there before the pandemic.

00:15:20.413 --> 00:15:23.623
It was something that Niantic added to kind of help people raid.

00:15:23.927 --> 00:15:33.107
One of the nerfs that's supposed to come is to where you're only doing half the damage to remote raids to where you can still get invited, but you won't be able to do as much damage as somebody who's in person.

00:15:33.410 --> 00:15:36.201
Would you still use remote raids even with the Nerf?

00:15:36.801 --> 00:15:42.020
In that situation then, I probably would just because we have a great group of people that raid together.

00:15:42.317 --> 00:15:49.097
If they took remote raids away completely, then I don't know if I would stick with Pokemon Go.

00:15:49.697 --> 00:15:51.167
It would just be too much, it sounds like?

00:15:51.466 --> 00:15:59.746
Yes! I'm a mom, and a grandmom now, and work, and not being close to a big city, all those things make it a little more difficult to get to raid in person.

00:16:00.052 --> 00:16:04.216
So, taking that part of it out of it, I don't know if I would continue playing or not.

00:16:04.547 --> 00:16:09.407
It would surprise me if they took them away completely, cuz I know what they've made off of me.

00:16:09.437 --> 00:16:09.576
Right.

00:16:09.576 --> 00:16:14.386
They have to be making a killing from people who are purchasing remote raid passes.

00:16:14.687 --> 00:16:15.407
Because what was it?

00:16:15.506 --> 00:16:19.287
There was one thing that they took away and then they ended up putting it back.

00:16:19.583 --> 00:16:21.083
I can't remember now what it was.

00:16:21.083 --> 00:16:22.673
but enough people spoke up about it.

00:16:22.673 --> 00:16:24.124
It was the Pokestop stop distance.

00:16:24.427 --> 00:16:30.451
They took that away and it came back and then they did take away the incense boost and now you have to move around with the incense.

00:16:31.365 --> 00:16:42.254
And I can understand that, I did agree with them putting it back as far as the distance because there still are people that aren't comfortable being out in public or being around larger groups of people.

00:16:42.558 --> 00:16:48.708
So for them to have the ability to still be able to drive around and potentially play, I think that that was a good decision.

00:16:49.009 --> 00:16:53.389
Of course, there's so many different types of people that play and play for different reasons.

00:16:53.684 --> 00:17:00.595
And I understand the people that aren't able to get out and walk and that might want to be able to drive around or comfortable getting out and walking.

00:17:00.595 --> 00:17:02.455
You're finding out why I like to do this podcast.

00:17:02.455 --> 00:17:02.784
Right.

00:17:03.701 --> 00:17:14.426
It is neat to hear different people's stories and the people that I've met have been so nice and encouraging, especially for somebody that didn't know anything when they first started, and I still don't know a lot.

00:17:14.723 --> 00:17:21.284
I could reach out and there's such a great community of people that are willing to help and answer questions and be supportive.

00:17:21.579 --> 00:17:22.799
I do like that a lot.

00:17:23.400 --> 00:17:30.869
How important is it for people to be welcoming, to be understanding, for somebody who doesn't know Pokemon, to have patience like in your example?

00:17:31.470 --> 00:17:37.339
I think it's key and I try and remember that, no matter what you do, you started there at some point yourself.

00:17:37.636 --> 00:17:40.606
So to give grace and encouragement and understanding.

00:17:40.903 --> 00:17:49.183
If I lose a raid pass for somebody that's just trying to host their first raids, which I'm still scared to death to even try, I'm not gonna get upset about it.

00:17:49.487 --> 00:17:53.237
They're trying to learn and I don't believe it's ever intentional.

00:17:53.539 --> 00:17:55.930
So having that support, being able to ask questions.

00:17:56.234 --> 00:17:59.565
I'm trying to learn about PVP, I don't really know anything about it.

00:17:59.865 --> 00:18:04.095
And in the Discord group, they've been very supportive in giving me lots of information.

00:18:04.403 --> 00:18:07.513
It's just one area that I haven't had time to sit down and learn about.

00:18:07.814 --> 00:18:13.838
But, knowing that you can go ask questions and not be looked down upon, if you will, is a wonderful thing to be a part of.

00:18:14.133 --> 00:18:21.303
I originally found her Facebook group before that Go Fest 2021, which led me to the Discord Group.

00:18:21.602 --> 00:18:26.251
And like I said, I didn't know anything about, I didn't know what you did when you got into Discord.

00:18:26.551 --> 00:18:30.811
But everybody's been so kind and helpful and excited for you too.

00:18:31.108 --> 00:18:37.288
For me to get a Shiny and it may be one that everybody has, but I don't have it and I am so excited about it.

00:18:37.592 --> 00:18:38.942
They're excited for me too.

00:18:39.244 --> 00:18:46.835
That whole group, especially Upbeat, has been very welcoming and it's helped me to get to where I am and to continue to enjoy the game.

00:18:47.439 --> 00:18:55.388
Now with your experience at Pokemon Go, and as you've learned about Pokemon, the ones that come out, how has that changed your relationship with your son or has it changed it at all?

00:18:55.989 --> 00:18:59.229
Well, he, he's one of my biggest cheerleaders too.

00:18:59.526 --> 00:19:02.016
Like I said, my whole family likes to give me a hard time.

00:19:02.316 --> 00:19:08.556
But, you know, anytime I get a rare Pokemon or one with really good stats or something, he's very encouraging.

00:19:08.855 --> 00:19:10.986
Has your son ever asked for his account back?

00:19:10.986 --> 00:19:11.496
Yes.

00:19:11.496 --> 00:19:12.659
He tried once.

00:19:12.959 --> 00:19:16.920
So he started playing and I go,"no, no, no, this one's mine now!"

00:19:16.920 --> 00:19:18.509
You've put too much time and effort into it.

00:19:18.686 --> 00:19:20.575
I have, I put all the work to it.

00:19:20.575 --> 00:19:23.694
He'll have to, he'll have to put in the work to get all the lead dairies.

00:19:23.694 --> 00:19:25.075
Yeah, I mean, he could start his own account.

00:19:25.075 --> 00:19:25.855
What's stopping him?

00:19:25.855 --> 00:19:26.275
Right?

00:19:26.577 --> 00:19:29.008
He doesn't even have it downloaded on his phone right now.

00:19:29.305 --> 00:19:31.615
So, since you're in a small town or a rural area.

00:19:31.913 --> 00:19:37.462
In what ways do you think Niantic could help the rural areas, like where you live, play Pokemon Go?

00:19:38.061 --> 00:19:41.458
I love that they add that adventure incense, has been a nice, change.

00:19:41.757 --> 00:19:46.436
There's not even a gym remotely close to me, but there's just not much out here.

00:19:46.732 --> 00:19:48.893
So I don't know how they could change that.

00:19:49.191 --> 00:19:54.171
Once campfire is really up and going and being able to communicate with people that are here local will be nice.

00:19:54.773 --> 00:19:57.203
Do you have any particular goals when it comes to Pokemon Go?

00:19:57.804 --> 00:20:04.824
I want a shundo! I want a Shundo so bad, it'll probably be like a Stunfisk or something when I get one and I'll be really bummed.

00:20:04.824 --> 00:20:06.354
Do you have a particular Pokemon one in mind?

00:20:06.651 --> 00:20:07.790
Ponyta will be nice

00:20:08.094 --> 00:20:08.693
hey, there you go.

00:20:08.699 --> 00:20:10.084
Now we're talking you guys.

00:20:10.413 --> 00:20:13.104
Do you guys say it specifically so that way you have a chance of it happening?

00:20:13.614 --> 00:20:14.483
There we go.

00:20:14.483 --> 00:20:15.263
That works.

00:20:15.866 --> 00:20:17.757
Well, thank you Dana, for coming on the show.

00:20:18.057 --> 00:20:21.567
Before you do go, do you have any last minute words or last minute things you wanna say?

00:20:22.172 --> 00:20:25.082
I'm grateful especially when I started out and didn't know anything.

00:20:25.384 --> 00:20:33.454
The gentleman I told you that I saw playing, that I worked for, he did not know how to appraise your Pokemon, and only reason I knew was because of my son.

00:20:33.756 --> 00:20:38.971
He had trashed, he doesn't know how many perfect Pokemon because he didn't even know to check'em.

00:20:39.240 --> 00:20:41.300
So if he had duplicates, he just got rid of'em.

00:20:41.520 --> 00:20:51.000
So if you know, come across somebody that's just starting out, give them some tips or ask them if they know about different aspects of it because, it does make the game more fun when you learn those, different things.

00:20:51.303 --> 00:20:53.358
it sure has helped me and made the game a lot more fun.

00:20:55.358 --> 00:21:03.759
