00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:53.664
My name is David Hernandez and you're listening to As The Pokeball Turns! Welcome to as the Pokemon Ball Turns, where we interview people around the community on how their Pokemon Go journey started, where it has been, and where it is currently going.
00:00:53.960 --> 00:00:59.729
When it comes to Pokemon Go PVP, one can easily start battling by a simple push of the button.
00:01:00.033 --> 00:01:08.049
However, to win by understanding metas, creating teams and learning move counts is an entirely different matter and has a steep learning curve.
00:01:08.349 --> 00:01:17.135
Thankfully, there are some within the community who have taken the call to action and develop ways to educate the player base and help improve their skills in PVP.
00:01:17.453 --> 00:01:25.685
Places like B.T.W Podcast, PVP Corner, and we can't forget PVPoke are invaluable to both the growth and longevity of PVP.
00:01:25.981 --> 00:01:39.334
Another resource is a group known as Pallet Town PVP, whose slogan is,"this is where the journey of many future champions begin." There are three pillars of education, entertainment, and growth drive their mission statement every day.
00:01:39.641 --> 00:01:43.421
With education, they hope to improve everyone's collective skills.
00:01:43.718 --> 00:01:47.727
With entertainment, they make engaging content centered around PVP.
00:01:48.025 --> 00:01:55.545
And with growth, they focus on getting more people into PVP and getting them excited about what can be done with it outside of GBL.
00:01:55.841 --> 00:01:59.305
And my guest is more than eager to tell us more about this community.
00:01:59.602 --> 00:02:06.007
He is the mayor of Pallet Town PVP and one half of the PVP Corner at the Go Cast podcast.
00:02:06.305 --> 00:02:10.828
From Adelaid, Australia, here's his origin story into the world of Pokemon Go.
00:02:11.127 --> 00:02:12.997
This is FishonaHeater.
00:02:14.147 --> 00:02:22.000
Today I'm joined by the mayor of Pallet Town pvp and the co-host of the PVP Corner on Go Cast Fish on a Heater.
00:02:22.298 --> 00:02:23.837
Fish, welcome to the show.
00:02:24.435 --> 00:02:26.534
Hey man, I'm really excited to be here.
00:02:26.534 --> 00:02:27.157
Me too.
00:02:27.461 --> 00:02:29.448
Now I gotta ask you real quick about your name.
00:02:29.747 --> 00:02:36.258
At first when I first heard it, I thought like, this guy's just struggling to have a oven, so you makes fish on the heater to be able to cook lunch.
00:02:36.562 --> 00:02:38.211
But actually it's a poker term, right?
00:02:38.814 --> 00:02:39.625
It's a poker term.
00:02:39.625 --> 00:02:54.405
Yeah, so before I got on my Pokemon Go PVP journey, I was just starting out studying the game of poker, because like, a lot of things in life, there's just a lot more to it than what the untrained eye would know.
00:02:54.705 --> 00:03:02.805
So it is actually possible to learn all the mathematics behind the game of poker to a point where you are able to do it professionally.
00:03:03.102 --> 00:03:10.724
And so I was very new on that journey, hadn't gone real deep into it, but I was already starting to make a little bit of profit on it.
00:03:11.021 --> 00:03:19.730
Then Pokemon Go PVP kind of caught my eye and it was like I was in a relationship and then the new girl came along.
00:03:19.730 --> 00:03:22.909
is it like that meme, you just saw Pokemon Go and then you just see the guy turning back
00:03:22.909 --> 00:03:22.969
Yeah
00:03:22.969 --> 00:03:23.240
and saying
00:03:24.500 --> 00:03:25.129
Yeah, exactly.
00:03:25.129 --> 00:03:25.622
That meme.
00:03:26.224 --> 00:03:27.048
Without a doubt.
00:03:27.352 --> 00:03:34.252
Now, obviously we know you are the mayor and you're part of the Go Cast podcast as the PVP Corner, but everybody has an origin story, everybody has a start point.
00:03:34.551 --> 00:03:37.491
So I gotta ask the question, when did you first start playing Pokemon Go?
00:03:38.092 --> 00:03:39.102
Well, I was a day one-er.
00:03:39.405 --> 00:03:49.814
I had seen talks from, Niantic representatives before the game had come out talking about, oh, there's this thing we are working on, like seen promos for it, and I was super excited about it.
00:03:50.108 --> 00:03:58.671
Then of course, on day one, my friend messages me to say, It's out!" By then it, wasn't even that high up in the Google Play rankings at that stage.
00:03:58.671 --> 00:04:02.478
I had to actually like scroll through a bit to find Pokemon Go, it was that new.
00:04:02.775 --> 00:04:10.986
But you know, as soon as it was out, I downloaded it, played it for quite a while then like many, many people I did, get bored of it, eventually fell off the wagon.
00:04:11.287 --> 00:04:20.766
About a year and a half later, that same friend who was always playing that whole time, said to me, you should pick this game back up again, there's a lot more in it now than when you left.
00:04:21.067 --> 00:04:29.101
I picked it back up and there were things like raids, there were so many more Pokemon in the game, there were so many more features that weren't in the game at the time, so I did rekindle a bit of an interest.
00:04:29.404 --> 00:04:32.824
That would've died out again if PVP hadn't become a thing.
00:04:33.122 --> 00:04:36.545
So once PVP happened, that's when the love affair started.
00:04:38.107 --> 00:04:38.887
That's fair.
00:04:39.187 --> 00:04:44.812
So when you first left the game, do you remember when you left, was it when after gen two came out or was it a little bit later when
00:04:44.812 --> 00:04:46.492
It was close to that, yeah.
00:04:46.702 --> 00:04:48.382
I don't remember exactly when it was.
00:04:48.382 --> 00:04:51.293
I know gen two definitely was in game.
00:04:51.589 --> 00:04:57.086
I think it was after they introduced daily catch and Pokestop streaks
00:04:57.086 --> 00:04:57.297
Yeah.
00:04:57.297 --> 00:05:04.100
So that was around the midway point, with gen two right before raids came, so you left right before raids started, it sounds like.
00:05:04.100 --> 00:05:04.189
Right.
00:05:04.189 --> 00:05:04.879
Very poor timing,
00:05:06.470 --> 00:05:08.449
And it worked out cause you eventually came back to the game.
00:05:08.449 --> 00:05:11.437
Yeah, and eventually caught up on all the things that I missed.
00:05:11.740 --> 00:05:15.980
When I did come back, it was during I wanna say second run of Mewtwo raids.
00:05:16.300 --> 00:05:21.069
And so I was there trying to solo Mewtwos like not understanding that you've got a team up with.
00:05:21.579 --> 00:05:21.970
Oh yeah.
00:05:21.970 --> 00:05:25.069
This like level 25 guy trying to solo Mewtwo.
00:05:25.089 --> 00:05:26.920
Hey, least you tried, man, least you tried.
00:05:27.339 --> 00:05:27.759
That's right.
00:05:29.012 --> 00:05:31.163
So going back to first day, right?
00:05:31.463 --> 00:05:35.233
What was it like in the area that you were at when Pokemon Go was released?
00:05:35.536 --> 00:05:36.706
Where did you go to play?
00:05:37.310 --> 00:05:39.687
So I live in a city called Adelaide.
00:05:39.987 --> 00:05:42.206
It's a good sized city.
00:05:42.502 --> 00:05:46.706
So we've got like, one and a half million people, but, it feels like a country town.
00:05:47.007 --> 00:05:56.399
There's only three or four places you can go around the city that are densely populated enough to really make grinding worthwhile.
00:05:56.702 --> 00:06:03.886
Otherwise, you know, if you're not part of those particular communities, then it's pretty hard to play anything other than just solo play.
00:06:04.483 --> 00:06:10.293
So it's not like a downtown area, but it's more like here in America we'd probably call it maybe suburbs or town outside of downtown.
00:06:10.293 --> 00:06:11.853
Is that kind of best way to describe it?
00:06:12.449 --> 00:06:18.452
Yeah, there is town that's one of the places that's probably the easiest place for me to play, but then there's a couple of other, like, suburban areas.
00:06:18.752 --> 00:06:25.846
There's one area called Glenelg, which is a Beachside location, which is a beautiful, beautiful place like I encourage you to look it up.
00:06:26.146 --> 00:06:28.985
It's like one of the most beautiful places you'll see on Google.
00:06:29.288 --> 00:06:33.423
And then Morrison Lakes is another one that there's a reasonably healthy community at.
00:06:34.021 --> 00:06:36.778
Before PokemonGo came out, did you have any experience with Pokemon at all?
00:06:36.778 --> 00:06:37.617
Yes.
00:06:37.913 --> 00:06:40.463
The first two generations on the Game Boy games.
00:06:40.764 --> 00:06:42.894
I had played Yellow version.
00:06:43.194 --> 00:06:47.334
My mum got it for me for Christmas after I saw all my friends playing it.
00:06:47.637 --> 00:06:52.137
In the first generation of games, the doors were represented by just that little rectangle.
00:06:52.434 --> 00:07:01.257
So I didn't know that that was a door, so I spent the first couple of hours of my Pokemon experience trying to work out how to get outta my house.
00:07:02.971 --> 00:07:05.790
I remember that, yeah, cause it was just an outline.
00:07:06.093 --> 00:07:07.834
I think it was just like a rug almost.
00:07:07.834 --> 00:07:08.524
Yeah, exactly.
00:07:09.098 --> 00:07:15.783
So eventually I just accidentally pressed the right button that allowed me to get out of the house, I'm like,"oh," and then my Pokemon journey began.
00:07:16.084 --> 00:07:18.394
it's just like, you feel so dumb in the moment...
00:07:18.394 --> 00:07:18.543
yeah!
00:07:18.634 --> 00:07:21.807
But also like relief that done now, you don't have to worry about it anymore.
00:07:22.413 --> 00:07:26.607
So you come to Pokemon Go, you've only played the first two generations, you never played any of the other ones, right?
00:07:26.607 --> 00:07:26.817
No.
00:07:27.415 --> 00:07:30.865
So when you come back to Pokemon Go, how did you like, catch up with all the Pokemon?
00:07:30.865 --> 00:07:35.083
Did you just kinda learn it from experience or did you like go online to find out the new Pokemon?
00:07:35.083 --> 00:07:37.543
I'm talking like gen three, gen four, and all that data been already released.
00:07:37.543 --> 00:07:42.995
I started playing, gens three, four, and five on emulators, after I picked Pokemon go back up.
00:07:43.295 --> 00:07:46.043
So I was kind of doing that at the same time.
00:07:46.048 --> 00:07:52.547
So I learned it all together, basically the world of Pokemon Go and the world of the main series games that all just experienced it all at once.
00:07:52.848 --> 00:07:57.588
Seeing something in Pokemon Go and then seeing it in the main series game, like, okay, now I understand what that Pokemon is.
00:07:58.192 --> 00:07:59.952
Do you have a particular favorite Pokemon at all?
00:08:00.555 --> 00:08:02.865
So I, I have been telling people Umbreon.
00:08:03.168 --> 00:08:04.406
I'll probably stick with that.
00:08:04.406 --> 00:08:06.625
I'm really liking Dratini at the moment as well.
00:08:06.925 --> 00:08:11.692
Umbreon and Dratini are Pokemon that are really, really cute, but also very badass.
00:08:11.992 --> 00:08:23.872
And I'm talking about mainly in the Pokemon Go PVP sense like Dragonite and Umbreon are both incredibly good for PVP, so I love how they both combine their bad assness with extreme cuteness.
00:08:24.476 --> 00:08:28.730
So you mentioned how PVPs what really got you reengaged with the game.
00:08:29.028 --> 00:08:29.307
Mm-hmm.
00:08:29.307 --> 00:08:33.116
What was it about PVP that really motivates you to play Pokemon Go more?
00:08:33.714 --> 00:08:42.421
I've always appreciated the thing about PVP, that it makes a lot more of the Pokemon Go world exciting.
00:08:42.716 --> 00:08:50.772
So, for example, one particular memory that stands out is when they first introduced Spotlight Hours and the first one was like Onix.
00:08:51.068 --> 00:09:01.706
I was the only person I knew that was excited about that because I knew how good Steelix was and I was excited to try and get, a high iv, Onix or Steelix for Ultra League or a just a better one for Great League.
00:09:02.001 --> 00:09:14.517
The fact that so many Pokemon can be viable means that you, tend to get excited about more things like if there's a recycled shiny in a Community Day, I don't care cuz it's getting a new move.
00:09:14.813 --> 00:09:21.754
I've always thought that PVP allows you to get more out of the game than just the shiny hunt would.
00:09:22.359 --> 00:09:26.609
That makes sense because the shiny hunt, of course it's odds depending on mm-hmm.
00:09:26.688 --> 00:09:31.323
how many you find, but once you get the shiny, you don't really have much to go after once it comes back.
00:09:31.323 --> 00:09:31.750
Right.
00:09:32.054 --> 00:09:42.870
And I think Niantic do a good job with releasing Shinies into the game at the right rate so that people like the hardcore grinders still have some carrot to go for.
00:09:43.172 --> 00:09:45.730
The casual players, of course, are never gonna complete the whole thing.
00:09:46.029 --> 00:09:53.860
I think PVP just naturally has a bit more of a dynamic ecosystem to it where there's always something fresh.
00:09:54.460 --> 00:09:59.061
Did you start PVP right when it first came out or was there a little bit of a buffer after it debuted?
00:09:59.061 --> 00:09:59.828
Yeah, immediately.
00:10:00.125 --> 00:10:02.644
This was even before Go Battle League was a thing.
00:10:02.644 --> 00:10:06.918
So, originally one year before Go Battle League came out, there was the Silph Arena.
00:10:07.215 --> 00:10:11.714
The Silph Arena is a fan run, community run, organization.
00:10:12.014 --> 00:10:14.479
They're basically like the Pokemon Go version of Smogon.
00:10:14.782 --> 00:10:24.231
They had been around since like the start of Pokemon Go, they were originally the Silph Road and the Silph Arena was just like an offshoot of that, which was focused just on P V P.
00:10:24.535 --> 00:10:34.288
I was actually at a poker game and, uh, a friend of mine who also played the game said,"oh, you going to this PVP tournament in Morrison Lakes?" And I'm like, what PVP tournament?
00:10:34.293 --> 00:10:42.316
And he shows me this poster that the guy running it had knocked up and I decided to give it a go and absolutely loved it and played in every cup since then.
00:10:42.619 --> 00:10:44.269
And so I was doing that since the beginning.
00:10:44.269 --> 00:10:50.532
then of course a year later, go Battle League comes out, a few months after that COVID happens and everything changes.
00:10:51.131 --> 00:10:53.907
Real quick, how good were you on your first tournament for Silph?
00:10:53.907 --> 00:10:57.552
Like, were you pretty decent or were you kind look back in its cringeworthy
00:10:58.096 --> 00:11:01.897
I was decent compared to people because like we were all learning this at the same time, right?
00:11:01.897 --> 00:11:03.870
So none of us knew anything.
00:11:04.181 --> 00:11:11.155
the whole idea of Great League and Ultra League, you generally want Pokemon with a low attack IV and high defense and, stamina.
00:11:11.451 --> 00:11:12.652
Nobody knew that back then.
00:11:12.652 --> 00:11:14.361
With a few exceptions, but usually, yes.
00:11:14.361 --> 00:11:14.751
Exactly.
00:11:14.756 --> 00:11:14.991
Yeah.
00:11:15.052 --> 00:11:16.282
So nobody knew that back then.
00:11:16.282 --> 00:11:27.311
So after a few months, someone makes this discovery and we're all looking at our storage going, oh no, what have we done like deleting all these Pokemon, right?
00:11:27.610 --> 00:11:31.520
But yeah, in that first year, we were all discovering these things together.
00:11:31.823 --> 00:11:34.275
Things like discovering how good Vigoroth and Medicham.
00:11:34.572 --> 00:11:41.791
The idea of farming, like that's something that we didn't know how to do at the beginning and we collectively discovered that as a group.
00:11:42.094 --> 00:11:44.307
Was I good at that first tournament?
00:11:44.307 --> 00:11:47.224
So I, got two wins and one loss, so I was reasonable.
00:11:47.527 --> 00:11:51.256
But compared to what even a casual battler could do now.
00:11:51.557 --> 00:11:52.456
I couldn't even compete
00:11:53.277 --> 00:11:57.076
It's gotta be fun to see how PVP has grown over the years.
00:11:57.374 --> 00:12:00.043
From Silph Road to when you were discovering everything.
00:12:00.345 --> 00:12:06.251
Since you've grown with PVP from here to now, what's been the biggest surprise to you for pvp overall?
00:12:06.855 --> 00:12:15.269
I think the biggest surprise to me has been seeing the drive and passion people can have for this game.
00:12:15.572 --> 00:12:22.259
I remember one of the first continental championships for the Silph Arena, they had a room packed out with hundreds of people.
00:12:22.559 --> 00:12:32.676
It went on so long that the venue had to kick them all out cuz of licensing issues and so the final battles were filmed on people's, like phones and shared to the internet.
00:12:32.676 --> 00:12:33.995
So that's how underground it was, right?
00:12:34.296 --> 00:12:41.447
But I also remember hearing there was some kind of development manager for Pokemon Go in attendance there.
00:12:41.750 --> 00:12:58.921
And they saw in that moment the passion that these hundreds of people had for this game and that's what gave them this idea to create, uh, competitive system with their, with pvp to make it more than just an extra fun little thing that you could do on the side with your friends.
00:12:58.921 --> 00:13:13.115
It's unfortunate that the pandemic did happen because I think it did kind of slow and affect how PVP grew And now we're finally, you know, with recent additions of the regional tournaments, you're seeing more the people come out, people who maybe never gone to in-person events.
00:13:13.410 --> 00:13:18.048
And it's kind of fun to see just how the potential PVP really does have for the community.
00:13:18.048 --> 00:13:18.528
Totally.
00:13:18.831 --> 00:13:40.528
I would actually push back a little on the effects of Covid on PVP because it made Silph have to like adapt and struggle, but GO Battle League, that was also the time that Niantic adapted to that by removing the walking requirements that were originally in place for Go Battle League and so suddenly you've got, the birth of Pokemon PVP streamers.
00:13:40.825 --> 00:13:46.197
It made it so much easier to make content around this stuff that wasn't just the underground Silph stuff.
00:13:46.530 --> 00:13:57.404
You could actually make official Pokemon Go PVP content and so that caused, I believe a huge boom in the numbers of people actually participating in the PVP feature of the Pokemon Game.
00:13:57.705 --> 00:14:10.135
Silph Arena, I don't know exactly how much it affected them, but of course, you know, it killed in-person tournaments, they're really fighting to bring that back at the moment and I do have high hopes for them looking forward.
00:14:10.433 --> 00:14:14.005
But yeah, I think COVID did do some good things for the PVP scene.
00:14:14.610 --> 00:14:20.337
So do you think that if we still had that requirement, that PVP wouldn't be as big as it is now?
00:14:20.337 --> 00:14:21.837
I wholeheartedly believe that.
00:14:21.837 --> 00:14:22.107
Yeah.
00:14:22.412 --> 00:14:25.111
So few people would be getting all their battles done.
00:14:25.408 --> 00:14:28.648
We wouldn't have the content machine behind it.
00:14:28.951 --> 00:14:54.404
I will also say though that, the problems that Niantic have had, like mechanically with their coding and stuff, that has also done a lot of damage to the overall ecosystem, a lot of people, a lot of people have lost patience and lost interest in the game and again, it is something that like a lot of people weren't making a living off of, so like they, saw no reason to keep on going with this thing that was just causing them frustration.
00:14:55.008 --> 00:14:58.981
Well, now that you say that, what's your biggest concern with PVP moving forward?
00:14:59.577 --> 00:15:09.533
The biggest concern I have is actually the attitude around it, because it seems to be accepted that if anything goes wrong, it's cuz Niantic a shit.
00:15:10.222 --> 00:15:20.206
Um, like if you stub your toe, it, it's Niantic fault, like, um, and of course like the natural thing to blame them for everything that's going wrong.
00:15:20.509 --> 00:15:32.644
Whether it is a valid concern or not, I obviously don't wanna discount the actual valid concerns like there are things that they do wrong, but I think there's also a lot of things that they do right that doesn't get enough recognition.
00:15:32.948 --> 00:15:41.022
And also a lot of the things that we say that they're doing wrong can come from not knowing the full story.
00:15:41.322 --> 00:15:46.922
They'll be doing things, they'll have reasons for doing things and we don't know what those reasons are.
00:15:47.518 --> 00:15:50.961
So eventually you became part of the PVP Corner at Go Cast.
00:15:50.961 --> 00:15:51.381
Yes.
00:15:51.381 --> 00:15:52.642
how did that all happen?
00:15:53.241 --> 00:15:57.597
I was a patron of the Go Cast community.
00:15:57.597 --> 00:16:03.488
I had been listening to the podcast, I really like Chris and Kyle's aesthetic as a team.
00:16:03.792 --> 00:16:12.878
I loved their positivity about the game, even when they were complaining about stuff, which they do call things out when they disagree with something or think there's something that needs to be called out.
00:16:13.182 --> 00:16:23.871
But no matter if what they're saying is a positive or negative thing, it's always, you can hear it in their voices that it's always with an overtone or an undertone of we do like this game.
00:16:23.892 --> 00:16:25.206
It's with good intention it sounds like.
00:16:25.235 --> 00:16:29.046
Yeah, it's with good intention, yeah, that's a great way of putting it so, that really spoke to me.
00:16:29.046 --> 00:16:31.296
I've, I've always been drawn to positivity.
00:16:31.296 --> 00:16:55.421
I used to listen to a podcast where they broke down every episode of The Simpsons and after they got past, like season 12, I just became so fed up with them complaining about how bad the show was getting that I was like, nah, I'm done with this and then stop listening and it's why I might or might not listen to a lot of podcasts or consume a lot of content is I like to share it with people who are also having fun with this thing that I like.
00:16:55.721 --> 00:16:58.614
I don't want to hear about why this thing that I like is so shit.
00:16:58.913 --> 00:17:00.307
So I was part of their community.
00:17:00.610 --> 00:17:04.577
They used to do weekly live streams themselves.
00:17:04.881 --> 00:17:12.713
Every Thursday night they would do a play through of a main series Pokemon game and Dphi would also hang out in those streams as well.
00:17:13.020 --> 00:17:26.493
One of these streams, we were talking about the latest episode and I brought up the idea of like, I literally was in their Twitch chat and said DPhi and I should do like a regular PVP segment on the podcast and Chris was like, yeah, you absolutely should.
00:17:26.798 --> 00:17:33.284
And like, I was kind of joking, it was the kind of joke where it's like, if you think I'm joking, yeah, I was absolutely joking, if you think I'm serious, then yeah.
00:17:33.314 --> 00:17:33.794
Oh yeah.
00:17:33.794 --> 00:17:34.334
I meant that!
00:17:36.433 --> 00:17:37.604
You're just testing out the waters.
00:17:37.663 --> 00:17:43.663
Yeah, yeah, exactly like I'm just putting it out there in the universe and he had just immediately took to the idea.
00:17:43.963 --> 00:18:00.114
And I was so taken aback, thrown away, uh, blown away his, the word I was looking for, so blown away by how readily he was able to hand us the keys to the studio because I know if I were doing something like that, I'd be very, very protective of the product.
00:18:00.413 --> 00:18:11.867
Something that I'd built like they've built an amazing community, an amazing product, and I would be very, apprehensive of just letting someone else that I hadn't ever met in person to be such a huge part of that.
00:18:12.167 --> 00:18:19.913
Obviously, we'd been in that community enough that, they had gotten a good sense of who we were, so they were, all on board with the idea.
00:18:19.913 --> 00:18:26.928
I had to check with Chris a couple of times during the process of planning to be like, and you're sure you're okay with this?" And it was like,"yeah, man.
00:18:26.932 --> 00:18:31.844
Absolutely." And then, yeah, we did our first segment, it was well received and away we went.
00:18:32.448 --> 00:18:35.211
It sounds like you chose DPhi to be kind of your co-host.
00:18:35.513 --> 00:18:36.594
Why'd you choose her?
00:18:37.191 --> 00:18:57.347
I don't even think to say that I chose her, implies like a kind of intentionality behind it, I think it just happened, So like I said, yeah, defi and I should do this, it was more because, you know, she was chatting there at the time, we were both talking about pvp, we'd both been, communicating with each other about content, like we were friends already and it just seemed so natural.
00:18:57.951 --> 00:19:01.847
So y'all go to y'all first episode, it was actually in October of 2020.
00:19:02.147 --> 00:19:06.780
Was it awkward for y'all to kind of figure out how to work together or did it kind of flow together?
00:19:07.384 --> 00:19:11.413
I don't think it was awkward, but the process has definitely evolved.
00:19:11.419 --> 00:19:16.304
So, for example, and Chris and Kyle used to laugh hysterically about this.
00:19:16.604 --> 00:19:22.167
We used to do an entire run through of the segment before hitting the record button, so
00:19:22.167 --> 00:19:22.258
Oh, wow.
00:19:22.528 --> 00:19:25.317
We'd ba yeah, we'd basically do everything twice.
00:19:25.623 --> 00:19:34.198
We'd start again like we'd run through the whole segment and then make any kind of changes that we needed, and then we'd hit the record button and just do everything again.
00:19:34.493 --> 00:19:45.617
It was good for like avoiding all the stuttering and the ums and all that, but it also meant that any time we made each other laugh in the rehearsal, that moment was kind of lost if we tried to recreate it.
00:19:45.913 --> 00:19:51.647
So eventually we made that decision to just do the one run through and then just fix any problems in editing.
00:19:52.247 --> 00:19:55.797
Did you ever consider it like branching off and becoming your own podcast at any point?
00:19:55.797 --> 00:19:56.253
No.
00:19:56.253 --> 00:19:56.614
No.
00:19:56.913 --> 00:20:08.282
There's a few reasons for that, one is that, we both wouldn't have the time to promote that kind of thing ourselves and secondly like we enjoy being part of this thing that's already success like that.
00:20:08.583 --> 00:20:17.432
It sounds selfish to say it like they're already doing all the work of, of, uh, promoting the show, but, that is a part of it like, to put in the work of starting from scratch, so to speak.
00:20:17.432 --> 00:20:21.882
and yeah, making it just our own thing, I don't think either of us are particularly interested in that.
00:20:22.476 --> 00:20:24.605
So, last question about between y'all two.
00:20:24.909 --> 00:20:30.336
So if you and DPhiE faced off in a show six, pick three, best of three, who wins between you two?
00:20:30.935 --> 00:20:32.286
That has happened a few times.
00:20:32.583 --> 00:20:36.032
I believe I've won more than she has, but just barely.
00:20:36.032 --> 00:20:36.333
Okay.
00:20:36.333 --> 00:20:39.153
Just for casually or just outta just tournament Y'all participate together?
00:20:39.755 --> 00:20:47.808
Uh, in tournaments, mainly in tournaments we've participated in and I think we might have faced each other in factions one time or something like that I know I played against her factions team.
00:20:48.105 --> 00:20:53.144
Might not have been against her specifically, but yeah, we have come across each other in like tournament play a couple times.
00:20:53.743 --> 00:20:57.374
Do y'all like trash talk or anything like that before the matchup happens by chance?
00:20:57.374 --> 00:20:59.534
Like or do y'all just treat it as business as usual?
00:21:00.138 --> 00:21:11.566
We're both super supportive but also super competitive at the same time, so we are like, we're very polite to each other, but then whichever one of us loses, you can hear it in the other one's voice, how shitty they are about it.
00:21:13.972 --> 00:21:14.752
Oh, I bet.
00:21:14.752 --> 00:21:17.603
You've gotta tip toe around the other person for a, for a day or so.
00:21:17.644 --> 00:21:20.074
It's like you gotta let'em, uh, clean their wound a little bit.
00:21:20.074 --> 00:21:20.483
Yeah.
00:21:20.483 --> 00:21:20.810
Yep.
00:21:20.810 --> 00:21:21.228
Totally.
00:21:21.824 --> 00:21:25.903
Was the PVP Corner your first dip into content creation, or did you used to do stuff before that?
00:21:26.503 --> 00:21:30.915
No, actually, before Go Battle League was a thing, i started with YouTube content.
