00:00:00.008 --> 00:00:03.588
My name is David Hernandez, and you're listening to As the Pokeball Turns.

00:00:44.006 --> 00:00:46.476
Welcome to As the Pokeball Turns.

00:00:46.875 --> 00:00:53.375
Our journey takes us back to the west coast where we meet a Pokemon trainer who is an artist with a love for Pokemon battles.

00:00:53.676 --> 00:01:01.521
While many may know her from the battles she streams on Twitch, her true talent lies in her art that she creates using Paintings and canvases.

00:01:01.822 --> 00:01:12.322
With her artistic ability, she draws Pokemon and anime and even does crossovers between different franchises and finds unique connections such as one between Lion King and Dragon Ball Z.

00:01:12.620 --> 00:01:14.870
Here is her origin story into the world of Pokemon.

00:01:15.319 --> 00:01:16.810
This is Posh.

00:01:18.189 --> 00:01:23.920
Today I'm joined by Posh, who is both an artist as well as a Twitch streamer who plays Pokémon Go.

00:01:24.254 --> 00:01:24.674
Posh.

00:01:24.674 --> 00:01:25.774
Welcome to the show.

00:01:26.368 --> 00:01:27.868
Thank you so much for having me.

00:01:28.307 --> 00:01:34.408
for those who may not know, you are a huge Gengar fan, probably one of the most dedicated Gengar fanatics I've ever met.

00:01:34.712 --> 00:01:36.811
What is it about Gengar that makes you your favorite Pokemon?

00:01:37.409 --> 00:01:43.921
I don't know, dude, to be honest, everyone always asks me that question, and it's just kind of like a vibe thing with Gengar.

00:01:43.950 --> 00:01:45.903
Like, I don't know, I just connect with it.

00:01:46.201 --> 00:01:55.650
you would think like as a girl, right, I'd probably like something cute, like a fairy type or something, which I do, I like cute Pokemon but it's just something about Gengar that just draws me to him.

00:01:56.436 --> 00:02:05.897
I remember how you also like to talk about the Yin and Yang of Gengar, because, you know, according to Pokemon fandom, it's also the shadow of Clefairy, and I know you drew shoes based on that inspiration, right?

00:02:06.477 --> 00:02:07.847
I did, yes.

00:02:07.897 --> 00:02:09.728
It is like the yin and yang supposedly.

00:02:09.848 --> 00:02:13.608
It's not, you know, it's the fandom, but I really I really like the story behind that.

00:02:13.848 --> 00:02:19.427
because it's like he's like the darkness and she's like the brightness, you know, I don't know It's like the yin and yang.

00:02:19.427 --> 00:02:20.707
I think it's really cool.

00:02:21.311 --> 00:02:23.920
Now, what I was impressed by was your card collection.

00:02:24.010 --> 00:02:25.760
You have a full Gengar card collection?

00:02:26.358 --> 00:02:31.388
Yes, so one of my goals is to collect every gengar card ever made

00:02:31.681 --> 00:02:34.691
Like, every individual one, or just any one that's out in the world?

00:02:35.014 --> 00:02:36.455
every individual one

00:02:37.025 --> 00:02:38.094
Which ones are you missing?

00:02:38.400 --> 00:02:39.289
Oh, a whole bunch.

00:02:39.319 --> 00:02:41.000
My collection's not even that big.

00:02:41.125 --> 00:02:41.525
Really?

00:02:41.525 --> 00:02:43.504
It looks like, it looks pretty expansive when I saw it.

00:02:43.504 --> 00:02:43.639
Oh, really?

00:02:43.973 --> 00:02:45.233
There's so many, dude.

00:02:45.233 --> 00:02:52.062
I mean, you know the cards been out forever, so, um, Yeah, I have a lot that I'm missing, but, It's just a journey.

00:02:52.062 --> 00:02:58.680
I'm not trying to rush it, Cause I honestly could just buy a lot of them online, but I like to, like, Go to shops and actually, like, physically find them.

00:02:58.975 --> 00:03:05.165
so, um, I'm big into, like, going to, like, Comic shops or, like, shops where they sell cards and stuff and going on the hunt for them.

00:03:05.759 --> 00:03:11.302
So your collections, any cars that you find physically at your local stores, unless you find it there, you won't actually purchase it.

00:03:11.893 --> 00:03:18.478
I Bought some online or some have been gifted to me because you know, I have my community So a lot have been gifted to me.

00:03:18.777 --> 00:03:20.388
but the majority of the ones I purchased.

00:03:20.418 --> 00:03:23.487
Yeah I purchased them locally like at the shops that I go to

00:03:24.152 --> 00:03:24.733
That's awesome.

00:03:24.733 --> 00:03:26.562
That's a good way to support small businesses too.

00:03:27.126 --> 00:03:31.355
It is yeah, there's a shop that I like to go to and I'm like really cool with the owner.

00:03:31.693 --> 00:03:42.836
He actually lets me sell my art there, too, so like me and him have a deal like i'm like anytime someone brings you any Gengar stuff or you get anything new That's Gengar related like you got to save it for me and he always does

00:03:43.423 --> 00:03:45.846
what kind of cars has he been able to get your hands on because of him?

00:03:46.445 --> 00:03:51.045
a few of, like, the newer ones, the newer Gengar cards that have come out, because he, like, resells stuff.

00:03:51.045 --> 00:03:56.216
So, like, sometimes people, like, donate stuff and then he'll, like, resell it or, like, he'll do trade ins with people.

00:03:56.514 --> 00:04:03.793
but I haven't got anything vintage, as far as cards, but, like, from the newer collections, I have got, a few cards from him.

00:04:04.395 --> 00:04:08.139
you know, besides Gengar, you know, you got the whole onesie, you've got plushies.

00:04:08.463 --> 00:04:12.868
I got to ask what do you think of the new forms like Mega Gengar and then the Red Gengar Max?

00:04:12.868 --> 00:04:14.778
Like, what do you think of those parts of Gengar?

00:04:15.373 --> 00:04:19.783
Oh my god, the Mega Gengar is so freaking good.

00:04:20.223 --> 00:04:21.204
It's so good.

00:04:21.603 --> 00:04:24.050
Honestly, dude, I'm kind of mad.

00:04:24.050 --> 00:04:24.680
I'm always bitter.

00:04:24.680 --> 00:04:30.199
I'm like, I need to start a petition because I really don't like the shiny for Gengar because it's so, like, underwhelming.

00:04:30.209 --> 00:04:31.920
Like, he basically looks the same, right?

00:04:32.228 --> 00:04:34.721
but with the mega, he turns white.

00:04:35.120 --> 00:04:45.285
And I always Yeah, and I'm like, dude, it makes sense for the shiny to be like that for like the whole, evolution line, because it's a ghost, and ghosts are usually white, right?

00:04:46.014 --> 00:04:49.774
Like Casper the ghost, like they're white, so I'm like, it would be, it would make sense.

00:04:50.314 --> 00:04:53.975
But yeah, I really, I really love the other forms of it, the Mega and the Max.

00:04:54.584 --> 00:04:54.824
Yeah.

00:04:54.824 --> 00:04:59.358
That mega shiny really solidified the Gengar shiny because Gengar shiny.

00:04:59.358 --> 00:05:05.927
You can barely tell it's the difference, but when I saw that white, I'm like, why couldn't the regular gang gar shiny be white too?

00:05:05.987 --> 00:05:06.918
Like, why not?

00:05:06.918 --> 00:05:08.658
Like, How hard is it to change purple to white?

00:05:08.718 --> 00:05:09.077
I don't know.

00:05:09.077 --> 00:05:09.617
You're an artist.

00:05:09.617 --> 00:05:11.028
I'll trust your judgment on that.

00:05:11.632 --> 00:05:17.466
They, like, miss out on so many really good Shinies that they make, like, so boring or dull.

00:05:17.466 --> 00:05:22.286
Cause, like, they could do any color and, and the, sometimes the ones they choose, I'm like, what are you guys thinking?

00:05:24.858 --> 00:05:27.108
do you ever imagine like a Gengar besides white?

00:05:27.338 --> 00:05:30.377
Do you ever imagine Gengar, the regular one, into a different color?

00:05:30.377 --> 00:05:33.108
Like, what color do you think it would be good as a shiny besides white?

00:05:33.430 --> 00:05:37.733
I think pink would be really cool, cause I also like Pink Shinies a lot.

00:05:38.060 --> 00:05:39.637
pink would be very interesting.

00:05:39.932 --> 00:05:40.593
Right?

00:05:40.603 --> 00:05:41.362
It would be.

00:05:41.392 --> 00:05:43.766
I really have a soft spot for pink shinies.

00:05:44.317 --> 00:05:46.098
what are some of your favorite pink shiny Pokemon?

00:05:46.865 --> 00:05:47.985
I really like Hypno.

00:05:47.985 --> 00:05:49.449
Pepto Bismol.

00:05:49.449 --> 00:05:49.798
Okay.

00:05:50.759 --> 00:05:55.696
Yeah, and then there's the monkey that's pink with, with the arms.

00:05:55.776 --> 00:05:56.406
What's his name?

00:05:56.713 --> 00:05:57.363
Oh, Aipom?

00:05:57.675 --> 00:05:58.386
Yes, Apom.

00:05:58.615 --> 00:05:59.836
I really like that one.

00:06:00.178 --> 00:06:02.668
oh, I think, is Ampharos pink too?

00:06:03.005 --> 00:06:04.235
I know Mareep is.

00:06:04.536 --> 00:06:07.125
I think Ampharos is pink as well.

00:06:07.461 --> 00:06:08.391
I think so.

00:06:08.401 --> 00:06:10.670
If I'm not mistaken, I think that one as well.

00:06:11.110 --> 00:06:13.471
All the Ampharous fans are saying, like, it is pink, it is pink.

00:06:13.471 --> 00:06:15.701
I'm like, man, you know how many times I've paid attention to that Pokemon?

00:06:16.091 --> 00:06:18.771
Yeah, it's kind of like a pink and purple color.

00:06:19.071 --> 00:06:21.430
Well, yeah, I like, cause I like pink and purple.

00:06:21.440 --> 00:06:23.588
So those are like my favorite colors.

00:06:24.187 --> 00:06:26.288
Well, Posh, let's go ahead and start from the beginning.

00:06:26.288 --> 00:06:28.687
So, like, what was your first experience with the Pokemon?

00:06:29.288 --> 00:06:30.567
Oh man, dude.

00:06:30.608 --> 00:06:31.017
Okay.

00:06:31.017 --> 00:06:33.237
So we're taking it back to my childhood.

00:06:33.247 --> 00:06:33.487
Just

00:06:33.487 --> 00:06:34.577
Let's go.

00:06:35.997 --> 00:06:40.151
just like a lot of people, you know, I feel like we started watching it as kids.

00:06:40.242 --> 00:06:41.413
watching the tv show.

00:06:41.728 --> 00:06:53.235
So me and I have an older brother So he's like the reason why i'm into like pokemon and gaming and like anime and stuff because he was into that as well we watched it when we were little and then, he wanted to get the game.

00:06:53.305 --> 00:06:58.519
So like, I remember we were like begging my mom at Kmart to get us the N64.

00:06:58.829 --> 00:07:03.218
one of the first games we played was, Pokemon Stadium, which I still have to this day.

00:07:03.564 --> 00:07:04.774
And I still my 64.

00:07:05.043 --> 00:07:06.564
Oh my gosh, lucky.

00:07:06.884 --> 00:07:07.783
yeah, dude.

00:07:07.793 --> 00:07:10.043
And then we got the Game Boy Color, too.

00:07:10.071 --> 00:07:12.271
so we did play Red and Blue.

00:07:12.310 --> 00:07:17.011
And so it started from there, just watching Pokemon and playing the games.

00:07:17.358 --> 00:07:18.564
which I still collect.

00:07:18.593 --> 00:07:20.173
That's part of the things I collect.

00:07:20.173 --> 00:07:21.843
I like collecting, like, retro stuff like that.

00:07:21.843 --> 00:07:23.413
So I do have, like, my Game Boys.

00:07:23.413 --> 00:07:25.803
I have Pokemon Stadium.

00:07:25.853 --> 00:07:27.427
I have my Nintendo 64.

00:07:27.427 --> 00:07:28.987
because that's where the whole journey started.

00:07:30.071 --> 00:07:39.531
See, the reason I said I was jealous, is that I made the foolish mistake when I was like 15 or 16, I sold my N64 and all my games and included Pokemon stadium and all the good games you can think of, the retro ones.

00:07:39.571 --> 00:07:40.240
I had them all.

00:07:40.543 --> 00:07:44.064
Oh my god, I feel like a lot of people said that, especially with the cards.

00:07:44.398 --> 00:07:53.733
I've talked to people because they see my collection and they're like, I used to have a lot of these when I was younger, or like, they're like, my mom sold it at a garage sale.

00:07:54.201 --> 00:07:55.370
Oh my gosh.

00:07:55.600 --> 00:07:58.810
The garage sale would probably tear my heart if that happened.

00:07:58.810 --> 00:08:01.571
Cause it's like, Oh, I had it and I had no control over it.

00:08:01.571 --> 00:08:05.014
But yeah, I was just too naive to really appreciate those things.

00:08:05.331 --> 00:08:19.680
And I think we didn't know how valuable it is, especially now, like, the cards from back in the day are so expensive now, doesn't like, uh, Jake Paul or something, like, doesn't have like the Charizard one that's worth like a million dollars or something, if I'm not mistaken?

00:08:19.815 --> 00:08:21.425
Yeah, it's like some kind of first edition.

00:08:21.425 --> 00:08:23.985
I think he wears it around his necklace or like a key, like a necklace.

00:08:24.315 --> 00:08:27.846
Yeah, dude, and it just goes to show like how valuable they are.

00:08:28.146 --> 00:08:29.886
I still have some of the cards from back in the day.

00:08:29.886 --> 00:08:32.735
I'm never gonna sell them and I know they're super valuable.

00:08:33.166 --> 00:08:35.436
oh my gosh, do you have a PSA graded and stuff like that?

00:08:35.735 --> 00:08:40.836
I have some of them, yeah, and some of them are worth like 500, like a thousand dollars.

00:08:41.166 --> 00:08:42.635
I'm just going to keep them forever.

00:08:42.635 --> 00:08:43.666
I'm never going to sell them.

00:08:43.966 --> 00:08:45.216
Posh, let me buy a 500.

00:08:45.216 --> 00:08:46.796
I'll come back to you once it becomes worth more.

00:08:48.566 --> 00:08:48.855
No.

00:08:50.025 --> 00:08:51.316
Those are my treasures.

00:08:51.629 --> 00:08:52.818
Do you remember what cards they are?

00:08:53.405 --> 00:08:55.436
well one of the ones I have is a Gengar one.

00:08:55.436 --> 00:08:56.985
I have Sabrina's, Gengar.

00:08:57.283 --> 00:09:00.052
It's like from 1998 or something like that.

00:09:00.082 --> 00:09:02.893
It's a PSA graded, uh, Japanese holo.

00:09:03.192 --> 00:09:04.663
It's, it's nine.

00:09:04.979 --> 00:09:05.578
Oh, wow.

00:09:05.578 --> 00:09:07.009
You took care of those cards.

00:09:07.139 --> 00:09:07.688
Yeah.

00:09:07.769 --> 00:09:09.688
a perfect ten, but we're close.

00:09:09.688 --> 00:09:10.208
We're close.

00:09:10.278 --> 00:09:10.989
It's a nine.

00:09:10.989 --> 00:09:12.318
That's still pretty good.

00:09:12.818 --> 00:09:13.649
I know.

00:09:13.947 --> 00:09:16.922
my mom was big on like, making sure we took care of our stuff, so,

00:09:17.552 --> 00:09:21.462
I know you said you started out with Pokemon Stadium, so, like, would you and your brother, like, battle?

00:09:21.462 --> 00:09:24.883
Or would you, like, participate in, like, Premier Cups and Gym Leader Castle?

00:09:24.883 --> 00:09:25.883
I don't know if you remember those.

00:09:26.477 --> 00:09:27.437
Oh yeah, I remember that.

00:09:27.447 --> 00:09:28.557
I play it all the time.

00:09:28.558 --> 00:09:30.187
I still play it now.

00:09:30.197 --> 00:09:32.337
It's one of my favorite games for the 64.

00:09:32.643 --> 00:09:34.962
we would battle, and we would do everything.

00:09:34.972 --> 00:09:36.123
Like, we played the whole game.

00:09:36.375 --> 00:09:36.774
The minigames?

00:09:37.461 --> 00:09:39.274
The minigames are super fun.

00:09:39.669 --> 00:09:40.470
Oh, they are.

00:09:40.480 --> 00:09:41.600
They're such classics, too.

00:09:42.215 --> 00:09:45.345
Yes, dude, the Lickitung one is so fun.

00:09:45.345 --> 00:09:45.424
Yeah, dude.

00:09:45.720 --> 00:09:47.080
Is it like the sushi one, right?

00:09:47.210 --> 00:09:51.570
Like it has to get the, uh, certain flavors or something like that a score.

00:09:51.649 --> 00:09:52.236
Yeah.

00:09:52.740 --> 00:09:57.879
You know, they made it now that, they put it on the Switch, so they have like an expansion pack that you could buy.

00:09:57.899 --> 00:10:01.389
It's like the N64 expansion pack and you could play it online now with people.

00:10:01.678 --> 00:10:02.979
I wish you could battle people.

00:10:02.979 --> 00:10:04.308
That would be so much fun.

00:10:04.644 --> 00:10:20.807
That's the only reason why I don't want to play it because for me, like if they were ever to release the Pokemon stadium, what I was looking forward to most was the potential for online battles on the stadium arena, or being able to connect potentially your digital forms of Pokemon red, blue, and yellow to the Pokemon stadium, so I can use my own Pokemon for the gym leader and for the, you Different cups.

00:10:20.807 --> 00:10:23.533
That's what I was really looking forward to, which unfortunately didn't happen.

00:10:24.126 --> 00:10:32.511
I'm hoping and I'm still praying that they actually remake that game because I feel like that game has so much potential, especially with being able to play, like, online.

00:10:32.511 --> 00:10:34.442
Like, I feel like the battles would be so much fun.

00:10:34.750 --> 00:10:35.441
Oh yeah.

00:10:35.600 --> 00:10:40.181
So I remember going through the first round and having to battle Mewtwo, and that was such a difficult battle to go through.

00:10:40.476 --> 00:10:41.326
The Mewtwo battle.

00:10:42.147 --> 00:10:43.386
as a 10 year old.

00:10:45.297 --> 00:10:46.346
It takes forever

00:10:47.000 --> 00:10:47.291
Would you

00:10:47.380 --> 00:10:54.640
way to do it is to how you said you got to play the game Like you got to play your blue or red or whatever and then use your actual pokemon.

00:10:55.134 --> 00:10:56.413
Oh no, I used rental Pokemon.

00:10:56.721 --> 00:10:57.471
Oh, really?

00:10:57.811 --> 00:10:59.581
Yeah, because I didn't have Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow.

00:10:59.620 --> 00:11:02.360
Well, yeah, I didn't have Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow when I had Pokemon Stadium.

00:11:02.390 --> 00:11:03.441
I only had Pokemon Stadium.

00:11:03.764 --> 00:11:05.144
Oh, wow

00:11:05.364 --> 00:11:07.144
just did rental Pokemon, yeah.

00:11:07.451 --> 00:11:07.951
oh man.

00:11:07.961 --> 00:11:10.091
That must have been really a struggle then

00:11:10.520 --> 00:11:15.221
A couple, uh, a lot of days went into that, probably weeks, honestly, if I'm being completely honest.

00:11:15.221 --> 00:11:17.370
Oh,

00:11:17.770 --> 00:11:19.510
they have the wrong moves too.

00:11:19.671 --> 00:11:20.860
Like the suck

00:11:21.941 --> 00:11:22.850
They are horrible.

00:11:23.291 --> 00:11:24.100
Yeah, they're horrible.

00:11:24.110 --> 00:11:24.921
They're so bad

00:11:25.527 --> 00:11:32.193
So, my friend, we used to believe that if your Pokemon was smaller, it'd be harder for it to get hit by a move.

00:11:32.500 --> 00:11:34.000
That's funny.

00:11:34.289 --> 00:11:38.049
yeah, bad logic, but that's how it was back when you were that young.

00:11:38.409 --> 00:11:40.690
So I always ended up using Articuno's was my favorite.

00:11:40.998 --> 00:11:42.768
I used Zapdos, and I always used Mr.

00:11:42.768 --> 00:11:46.238
Mime for some reason because I thought it was like the best psychic Pokemon in the game.

00:11:46.248 --> 00:11:49.087
Little did I know there was actually Alakazam, but that's another story.

00:11:49.628 --> 00:11:50.398
But I always use Mr.

00:11:50.488 --> 00:11:52.238
Alakazam is actually cracked!

00:11:52.570 --> 00:11:53.809
As long as it's not the rental one.

00:11:53.809 --> 00:11:55.070
The rental one is crap.

00:11:55.100 --> 00:11:58.200
But yeah, it is cracked if you actually have your own Alakazam.

00:11:58.543 --> 00:11:59.413
Oh my goodness.

00:11:59.734 --> 00:12:01.484
What about, uh, through Red, Blue, and Yellow?

00:12:01.860 --> 00:12:02.730
Red, red.

00:12:02.769 --> 00:12:05.840
Um, I'm a huge Firestarter fan,

00:12:06.136 --> 00:12:07.746
Also, I guess started with, uh, Charmander?

00:12:08.046 --> 00:12:10.096
Yes, I actually even have a Charmander tattoo.

00:12:10.389 --> 00:12:11.159
Oh, really?

00:12:11.423 --> 00:12:13.702
Yeah, he's my first starter.

00:12:13.743 --> 00:12:16.243
So he's like the one that started the whole journey for me.

00:12:16.548 --> 00:12:18.119
Oh, he's your little buddy besides Gengar.

00:12:18.717 --> 00:12:22.014
Yeah, that's like top three I would say

00:12:22.325 --> 00:12:25.745
Gengar, Charmander, or Charizard, I assume, and what was the third one?

00:12:26.052 --> 00:12:26.591
Clefable.

00:12:27.302 --> 00:12:31.902
Did you stick with Pokemon throughout the generations, or did you have to leave the franchise at some point?

00:12:32.225 --> 00:12:39.004
yeah, I didn't play all the games Unfortunately, I did fall off of the games, but I always watch the show.

00:12:39.303 --> 00:12:42.384
At just some point, I guess my mom wasn't buying us all the games.

00:12:42.405 --> 00:12:44.773
So, yeah, we didn't get to play all of them.

00:12:45.270 --> 00:12:47.880
So when Pokemon go came out, you're already back to playing Pokemon again.

00:12:48.182 --> 00:12:54.263
Oh yeah, dude, when I heard about Pokemon Go, I was like, Oh my god, a game where I could just play it on my phone?

00:12:54.732 --> 00:13:02.753
And I could actually like go, like, I thought that was like, Such a genius idea like I could actually go and play pokemon and walk around like actually be a trainer in real life

00:13:03.070 --> 00:13:03.490
Oh, really?

00:13:03.490 --> 00:13:05.149
So were you hyped up when the game launched?

00:13:05.450 --> 00:13:07.100
I was I was super excited.

00:13:07.100 --> 00:13:19.690
I downloaded it on the first day that it came out and Like everyone I went I was excited to play it, but then it was kind of underwhelming I feel like when it first came out, it wasn't that good like, it got boring real quick.

00:13:19.990 --> 00:13:25.639
so I was one of those people that like played it for a little bit in 2016 and then stopped playing it.

00:13:25.936 --> 00:13:29.826
so I stopped playing it for like two years, I think, and then I came back to it in 2018.

00:13:31.018 --> 00:13:33.788
Do you remember why it was underwhelming when it launched in your opinion?

00:13:34.379 --> 00:13:38.720
I don't know, like, I think I expected more, because I think back then there wasn't like battling.

00:13:38.720 --> 00:13:40.649
Because they added like a whole bunch of new stuff.

00:13:40.649 --> 00:13:41.470
I don't even know.

00:13:41.620 --> 00:13:48.423
I'm pretty sure they had the gyms But yeah, I think it was because of the battling and then it wasn't what I thought it was gonna be at first.

00:13:48.722 --> 00:13:50.952
it kind of gets boring when it's just like that.

00:13:50.952 --> 00:13:58.942
I mean one of my favorite parts, of course I like going out and like doing the events, but like my favorite ultimate part is the battling aspect of it.

00:13:59.534 --> 00:14:00.884
What do you enjoy about battling?

00:14:01.475 --> 00:14:01.904
I don't know.

00:14:01.904 --> 00:14:03.914
I just always have liked battling.

00:14:03.914 --> 00:14:05.215
I guess I'm competitive.

00:14:05.245 --> 00:14:07.924
I do want to eventually start competing.

00:14:07.924 --> 00:14:08.975
so I don't know.

00:14:08.975 --> 00:14:10.495
I just have so much fun battling.

00:14:10.799 --> 00:14:13.350
I want to be the best like no one ever was.

00:14:14.019 --> 00:14:16.450
to catch them as a, you're a test or something like that.

00:14:16.620 --> 00:14:18.379
to train them is your cause.

00:14:19.159 --> 00:14:20.080
Yes, yes.

00:14:20.784 --> 00:14:21.144
I don't know.

00:14:21.144 --> 00:14:22.264
I just find it super fun.

00:14:22.575 --> 00:14:24.365
I can literally battle for hours.

00:14:24.365 --> 00:14:27.615
Like, I literally do battles on two accounts every day.

00:14:27.615 --> 00:14:29.514
So I do 50 battles every day.

00:14:29.965 --> 00:14:33.095
At some point, I was battling like 100 battles a day.

00:14:33.095 --> 00:14:34.684
Like when they have like the Go Battle Days.

00:14:34.715 --> 00:14:40.634
Where you do 100 I was doing that like every day at one point and then I was like, okay, this is way too much.

00:14:40.634 --> 00:14:41.534
I gotta chill

00:14:41.919 --> 00:14:42.639
Oh, my gosh.

00:14:42.639 --> 00:14:43.879
You really are dedicated.

00:14:44.172 --> 00:14:45.211
or addicted.

00:14:46.210 --> 00:14:48.570
you have a particular favorite league you like to battle in?

00:14:48.902 --> 00:14:56.221
Yes, my favorite league is Ultra League and it's only because Gengar has the most potential in that one.

00:14:56.519 --> 00:14:58.600
so I love Ultra League.

00:14:59.251 --> 00:15:01.591
Do you ever you try to use Gengar in like Great League and Master League?

00:15:02.187 --> 00:15:04.116
Oh, I don't play master league at all.

00:15:04.116 --> 00:15:07.297
I feel like master league is like, you got to pay to play it.

00:15:07.621 --> 00:15:10.072
I don't really go out and do raids too much.

00:15:10.072 --> 00:15:15.562
So, unfortunately, I don't have, like, the legendaries and everything that I need to play master league.

00:15:15.868 --> 00:15:22.225
so don't use him there, but I heard he is good at master league premiere and then great league.

00:15:22.274 --> 00:15:22.965
I haven't.

00:15:23.086 --> 00:15:24.755
Used it in Great League to be honest.

00:15:24.865 --> 00:15:30.354
I have heard there's kind of potential for Gengar in Great League But I know Haunter is better.

00:15:30.929 --> 00:15:33.889
You've been listening to As the Pokeball Turns.

00:15:34.215 --> 00:15:35.615
We're going to take a quick break.

00:15:35.917 --> 00:15:36.996
We'll be right back.

00:16:39.850 --> 00:16:41.970
So, one thing we haven't touched on is your art style.

00:16:41.970 --> 00:16:43.259
So, how did you start drawing?

00:16:43.259 --> 00:16:44.159
Like, when did that happen?

00:16:44.753 --> 00:16:49.658
so I've always drawn ever since I was little, just growing up, you know, we all draw.

00:16:49.668 --> 00:16:53.633
I feel like when we're kids, but I like to draw like Pokemon and like anime stuff.

00:16:53.633 --> 00:16:55.393
Cause I was huge into like anime.

00:16:55.552 --> 00:16:58.143
I remember when I first, Like, saw anime on TV.

00:16:58.143 --> 00:17:00.393
I was like, wow, like the style is so beautiful.

00:17:00.393 --> 00:17:02.143
Like, I had never seen anything like it.

00:17:02.493 --> 00:17:03.753
So that's what drew me to it.

00:17:03.753 --> 00:17:06.722
And then, like, I would try to just draw it because I thought it was so pretty.

00:17:06.722 --> 00:17:10.123
Like, Sailor Moon, like, all the characters on, like, Sailor Moon were, like, so pretty to me.

00:17:10.123 --> 00:17:11.633
So I would always try to draw it.

00:17:11.929 --> 00:17:13.695
And, I was pretty decent at it.

00:17:13.705 --> 00:17:17.155
So my mom was, like, always telling me, like, oh, you're pretty good at drawing.

00:17:17.766 --> 00:17:19.796
So I always would just do it, like, as a hobby.

00:17:20.090 --> 00:17:27.101
and then I started painting because before I used to just draw like just draw with pencil or color pencils like in a notebook.

00:17:27.396 --> 00:17:30.523
but in 2015, I started painting.

00:17:30.523 --> 00:17:32.124
I was like, oh, let me try painting.

00:17:32.124 --> 00:17:33.304
I had never painted before.

00:17:33.601 --> 00:17:47.737
once I started painting, I was like, I fell in love with it and it took my art to the next level because it's like, different than just, you know, drawing with like a pencil, you know, you're able to do more of your art and express it with more colors and texture and stuff.

00:17:47.737 --> 00:17:51.983
So, once I started painting, I started posting it on Instagram just for fun.

00:17:52.013 --> 00:17:53.304
Cause I thought the paintings look cool.

00:17:53.304 --> 00:17:54.413
So I was like, let me post it.

00:17:54.413 --> 00:18:00.686
And then, um, they started getting a lot of attraction on Instagram and, I was able to grow a following, from my art.

00:18:01.017 --> 00:18:01.737
People loved it.

00:18:01.777 --> 00:18:03.676
People were like, Oh my God, can I buy this?

00:18:03.686 --> 00:18:04.886
Is this for sale?

00:18:05.201 --> 00:18:16.126
And I was just doing it like a hobby and then like it became like this thing where everyone was like trying to buy it and I didn't know how to do any of that right because I was like just doing art but you got to learn like the business side of it.

00:18:16.429 --> 00:18:25.199
And so then that's when I had to like, learn how to set up a website, learn how to ship things out and package everything and basically run a business, right?

00:18:25.864 --> 00:18:26.453
Exactly.

00:18:26.453 --> 00:18:26.894
Yeah.

00:18:27.201 --> 00:18:31.711
yeah, I was able to start making money off of doing art and it was crazy.

00:18:31.711 --> 00:18:33.909
I just kind of happened that way.

00:18:33.909 --> 00:18:38.101
I never planned to be like an artist or anything, but Yeah, it ended up happening that way.

00:18:38.673 --> 00:18:46.034
That's something I've always noticed whenever I've had art friends, they always struggle with the business side of it I guess, because, you know, art's something that's personal.

00:18:46.034 --> 00:18:49.023
It's something that comes up from within and trying to put a price on that.

00:18:49.023 --> 00:18:52.683
And as well as trying to make sure you pay for your time, because a lot of artists, they do undersell themselves.

00:18:52.987 --> 00:18:55.537
It's a really difficult topic to touch on,

00:18:56.131 --> 00:18:57.111
It is, dude.

00:18:57.111 --> 00:19:02.111
Especially, yeah, you're right and I struggled with that because I didn't know anything about business.

00:19:02.111 --> 00:19:05.201
I mean, anytime I had made money before was just from having a job.

00:19:05.201 --> 00:19:08.020
So, like, I never knew how to, like, run my own business.

00:19:08.641 --> 00:19:14.483
And it's a lot, especially when you're doing it by yourself, because it's like, you're the artist, but then you're the person that ships it out, right?

00:19:14.483 --> 00:19:22.564
And then you're running a website, you have to talk to your customers, so it's like, so many roles that you're playing as just one person.

00:19:23.160 --> 00:19:25.650
It is, and you're the face of your business as well.

00:19:25.650 --> 00:19:28.829
So it's a lot of pressure and it's a lot of moving parts to be able to balance it all.

00:19:28.829 --> 00:19:30.270
It's how do you balance it all?

00:19:30.270 --> 00:19:30.990
It's a lot to do.

00:19:31.577 --> 00:19:33.665
I, met my business partner that I work with.

00:19:33.705 --> 00:19:41.873
And so, he helped me a lot to be able to, like, promote it and just teach me the ropes because he was already doing, art as a business too.

00:19:42.171 --> 00:19:46.881
he was able to help me basically establish myself and just show me the ropes.

00:19:47.215 --> 00:19:57.023
And then I learned just by watching like YouTubers, on how to run your own business, how to market yourself, and yeah, it's a lot to learn, to be honest, it's a lot.

00:19:57.044 --> 00:20:02.604
Being an artist is the hardest thing I've ever done in my life, not gonna lie, because it takes a lot of work.

00:20:02.604 --> 00:20:05.023
I mean, just making the art already is draining.

00:20:05.044 --> 00:20:07.144
It takes a long time to do those paintings.

00:20:07.558 --> 00:20:10.103
Especially me, I feel like I'm a slow, painter.

00:20:10.103 --> 00:20:12.853
Like, when it comes to creating my art, it takes me, like, days.

00:20:13.512 --> 00:20:18.950
Oh wow, so, it takes days to finish one painting or to, does does that also include like concept realiz the idea as well?

00:20:18.950 --> 00:20:20.660
Or does that even add more time to it?

00:20:20.964 --> 00:20:28.278
So, usually I'll brainstorm the idea beforehand, but just as far as just painting it, like, in itself, it takes, like, hours.

00:20:28.278 --> 00:20:36.505
Like, I'll usually work on a painting, like, at least, like, Six hours a day when I'm working on a piece and then it'll take like about two or three days to finish it

00:20:37.097 --> 00:20:43.018
so I went through your Instagram and a couple of your online profile, and I found a couple of that really stuck out to me that I want to talk about.

00:20:43.325 --> 00:20:47.025
The first one is the Cubone with the Marowak with the Game Boy Color.

00:20:47.336 --> 00:20:47.676
Yes.

00:20:47.676 --> 00:20:48.076
Yes.

00:20:48.369 --> 00:20:51.859
I feel like as an artist I just be having like random ideas sometimes.

00:20:52.201 --> 00:21:06.365
It could be like anything I think that one I created during like, um, it might have been in april So like in april I do a lot of like 420 based art and so I think that's why I put the little weed leaf on his forehead but yeah, usually around 420.

00:21:07.445 --> 00:21:10.965
Um, I do a lot of like weed themed pieces

00:21:11.557 --> 00:21:15.227
And then the other one, I really never saw this connection until I saw you draw it.

00:21:15.817 --> 00:21:20.527
It's one where there's Goku and with Chi Chi and Piccolo with Gohan.

00:21:20.833 --> 00:21:26.673
And then there's the Lion King with Simba, Mufasa and, um, the child with Rafiki.

00:21:26.992 --> 00:21:30.593
And I never really saw that connection between those two different franchises.

00:21:30.843 --> 00:21:33.613
Is that purposeful or did it just happen by that way?

00:21:33.938 --> 00:21:45.330
No, it's um, so there was a time where I was doing like a lot of mashup pieces and I would just combine different things from like my childhood that I thought would have similarities.

00:21:45.662 --> 00:21:49.432
So yeah, I thought that they went well together that they have a lot of similarities.

00:21:49.432 --> 00:21:51.192
So I just painted it that way.

00:21:51.778 --> 00:21:52.439
that's what I saw.

00:21:52.439 --> 00:21:54.132
Like, that was the first time it really clicked with me.

00:21:54.132 --> 00:21:56.521
Cause you got Piccolo, who's a stepdad with Rafiki.

00:21:56.521 --> 00:21:59.471
You've got Goku who dies many times with Mufasa.

00:21:59.799 --> 00:22:01.579
And then of course you got Nala.

00:22:01.579 --> 00:22:03.589
And then of course you got Gohan with, Simba.

00:22:03.885 --> 00:22:12.885
So that was such a cool connection I never made until I saw your art, which I applaud you for that because I never would have thought those two random different parts of the world would come together that way.

00:22:13.184 --> 00:22:21.505
Yeah, I feel like the mashups are like things that are like kind of obvious once you see it, but like no one really ever thinks about it.

00:22:22.103 --> 00:22:24.192
And then another one, which I'm pretty sure you can remember this one.

00:22:24.192 --> 00:22:27.702
It's the family with Gengar, Ghastly, and Haunter in a graveyard.

00:22:28.022 --> 00:22:29.042
Oh, yes.

00:22:29.042 --> 00:22:33.722
Yes, I just love, I just love drawing Gengar dude.

00:22:34.667 --> 00:22:36.613
any chance I can get to draw gang art?

00:22:36.613 --> 00:22:37.393
I will do it.

00:22:37.958 --> 00:22:38.768
Oh, my gosh.

00:22:38.817 --> 00:22:41.627
Cause you have the gang gang, which is, what you're kind of in charge of.

00:22:41.637 --> 00:22:43.218
That's is that kind of what you call communities?

00:22:43.218 --> 00:22:44.298
The gang gang as well.

00:22:44.605 --> 00:22:47.486
so yeah, the gang guard gang or just gang, army.

00:22:48.711 --> 00:22:50.421
And then there's the live and win.

00:22:50.738 --> 00:22:55.278
And then you have like the tombstones, like that's just such a very good drawing of the Gengar family in one.

00:22:55.625 --> 00:22:56.025
Thank you.

00:22:56.025 --> 00:22:58.365
Yeah, I've done a couple pieces of Gengar, man.

00:22:58.365 --> 00:22:59.335
I mean, obviously I have two.

00:22:59.345 --> 00:23:00.535
That's my favorite Pokemon.

00:23:00.894 --> 00:23:01.394
Oh yeah.

00:23:01.711 --> 00:23:02.550
Is that your favorite one?

00:23:02.550 --> 00:23:04.881
Or do you have a particular other favorite piece?

00:23:05.184 --> 00:23:07.605
I really like the one I did with, them and Ghost Face.

00:23:07.938 --> 00:23:09.377
I really liked that piece.

00:23:09.377 --> 00:23:12.038
I did it during like Halloween month, which is one of my favorite months.

00:23:12.048 --> 00:23:15.097
It's spooky season, which you know in hand with Gengar.

00:23:15.394 --> 00:23:20.154
I was just thinking, like, who would Gengar be good with as, like, you know, like, horror icons?

00:23:20.464 --> 00:23:24.224
And then was like, Ghostface! From Scream, right?

00:23:24.255 --> 00:23:25.484
Cause he's a ghost.

00:23:25.780 --> 00:23:29.990
And then I thought about, when they, had Ghostface in Scary Movie.

00:23:30.288 --> 00:23:36.798
And, you know, it was that scene where he's like, just high and they, I think they call him and they're like, what's up?

00:23:37.127 --> 00:23:38.258
And they're like, what are you doing?

00:23:38.258 --> 00:23:41.778
He's like, just chillin, killin or something like that.

00:23:42.075 --> 00:23:46.954
so it gave me the same vibes as like Gengar and Haunter and Ghastly, cause they're usually like goofy.

00:23:47.260 --> 00:23:49.401
And so, yeah, I ended up doing them together.

00:23:49.992 --> 00:23:59.155
Well, speaking of classic movie movies or Halloween, I should say, my favorite one was actually the one where you did, I think it's Michael Myers and you have them in like, what is it

00:23:59.464 --> 00:24:00.325
The Road.

00:24:00.609 --> 00:24:01.470
yes, that one.

00:24:01.778 --> 00:24:03.627
Yes, yes.

00:24:03.924 --> 00:24:08.505
yeah, I did a whole bunch of, like horror icons mixed with like anime.

00:24:08.785 --> 00:24:13.845
that one, I thought that one was just like clever for, I do like a lot of different themes throughout the year.

00:24:13.845 --> 00:24:19.820
Like I said, like for 420 and like April I do like, the weed related ones or for Halloween I like to do like the horror ones.

00:24:20.154 --> 00:24:22.914
I just always like switching it up and trying new things.

00:24:23.515 --> 00:24:24.875
So where do you want to go with your art?

00:24:24.875 --> 00:24:28.224
Like, do you hope to eventually make this a full time thing or are you a full time artist?

00:24:28.224 --> 00:24:30.904
Like, where do you hope to eventually see your art become?

00:24:31.491 --> 00:24:36.981
well, recently I've been thinking a lot about if I would want to work, with, Pokemon itself.

00:24:37.289 --> 00:24:40.140
just cause remember how I was telling you I collect all the Gengar cards?

00:24:41.035 --> 00:24:47.930
I was thinking like maybe I should try to work with Pokemon as an artist and maybe make my own Gengar card one day.

00:24:48.219 --> 00:24:49.898
Ooh, that'd be kind of cool.

00:24:50.205 --> 00:24:50.786
Yeah,

00:24:51.013 --> 00:24:54.653
Like an official one or like, uh, something you just released through your shop.

00:24:55.240 --> 00:25:06.009
I think it would be cool to release, like, an official one with them, because, honestly, like, I think that would be, like, a dream where I do the design and then on all the cards it says who the artist is, like, at the bottom.

00:25:06.303 --> 00:25:12.423
And I was like, that would be, like, a great goal to have to be able to work with Pokémon, which, obviously, you know, I love.

00:25:12.423 --> 00:25:13.823
I've loved it since I was a kid.

00:25:13.823 --> 00:25:19.082
It's such a huge part of my life and, yeah, I think I might want to work with Pokémon.

00:25:19.082 --> 00:25:27.877
I know they're kind of, like, Iffy about like because I don't know like I know pokemon strict about things and I draw like a lot of pokemon but yeah, I think it would be cool to work with pokemon.

00:25:28.347 --> 00:25:29.248
That would be sick.

00:25:29.258 --> 00:25:38.387
Can you imagine, like, if you actually have a card printed of just, we'll say, Gengar, and everybody gets to see it and your name's on it, and you can, like, literally live your mark in Pokemon's history?

00:25:38.458 --> 00:25:40.248
That'd be kind of a cool goal to reach.

00:25:40.248 --> 00:25:41.748
I

00:25:41.847 --> 00:25:47.637
I like i've actually been thinking about that but yeah, i've already done Art full time as like job.

00:25:47.931 --> 00:26:06.267
I enjoy it, but like, mixing art with like the money kind of, to me, takes the fun out of it because like how you said, like it's so personal and like to me, I was doing art for like the fun of it, for the love for it, so making it a job, like, I don't know, it kind of takes the fun out of it for me, I'm still blessed to be able to do it.

00:26:06.575 --> 00:26:09.404
I always see like I'm blessed like people love my art.

00:26:09.734 --> 00:26:12.214
I just don't like having to combine it with money, you know.

00:26:12.809 --> 00:26:16.258
So I know you've had a chance to attend live events by Niantic.

00:26:16.258 --> 00:26:17.438
How many have you been to?

00:26:18.044 --> 00:26:19.163
so I've only been to three.

00:26:19.163 --> 00:26:34.969
I just started going to them recently actually So my first live event that I went to was New York GoFest I actually flew across the country for it, because I do live in California, so I had to go all the way to New York, and, you know, that's like huge, right?

00:26:35.298 --> 00:26:38.788
You're gonna invest all this money for it, like, it's just a game, right?

00:26:39.132 --> 00:26:39.321
yeah.

00:26:39.321 --> 00:26:42.281
You can lose some hours of sleep because I think you're going from west to east, right?

00:26:42.717 --> 00:27:03.784
yeah, but, I had such a great time, I met so many cool people, what really made me want to start attending the events was after I started streaming, I met so many cool people just through, like, The Twitch community and I know like a lot of them were gonna be there and I was like, I want to go out there meet everyone like, these people are into everything that I'm into, you know, it's a community.

00:27:04.087 --> 00:27:07.887
and yeah, it was great, dude, honestly, and then just grinding the game, right?

00:27:08.202 --> 00:27:11.002
after that, I was like, okay, I'm definitely gonna be attending more events.

00:27:11.631 --> 00:27:15.455
and so the next one I went to was the Sacramento Regional.

00:27:15.744 --> 00:27:20.617
And so that one's more about, you know, competing in the game, which I eventually wanna do as well.

00:27:20.617 --> 00:27:23.978
I want to compete in one of the regionals come coming up soon.

00:27:24.333 --> 00:27:25.712
Oh, so you didn't compete in Sacramento?

00:27:26.016 --> 00:27:28.205
I didn't know, I just went as a spectator.

00:27:28.508 --> 00:27:33.607
I just wanted to check it out'cause I had never been to a regionals and you know, I just wanted to check out the vibe.

00:27:33.607 --> 00:27:47.201
but it's dope though to see like everyone and they have like, people selling stuff So they have like plushies collectibles and things you could buy It's dope because you're just around people that love the same thing you do And so you're able to connect with so many different people

00:27:47.778 --> 00:27:50.948
And then you got a chance to go to the recent Sinnoh Tour in LA, too, right?

00:27:51.247 --> 00:27:57.696
Yes, I just went to Sinnoh tour, which it was, dude, so many people went out to that.

00:27:57.696 --> 00:28:00.386
It just goes to show like how huge Pokemon is.

00:28:00.797 --> 00:28:05.207
And it's like people of all ages, dude, like little kids to like older people.

00:28:05.207 --> 00:28:06.027
And I'm like, wow.

00:28:06.027 --> 00:28:09.655
Like it just goes to show like, there's no age limit to this.

00:28:09.655 --> 00:28:10.986
Like anyone could play it.

00:28:10.996 --> 00:28:12.826
It brings so many people together.

00:28:13.125 --> 00:28:21.474
And to me, it's crazy to see how much it has grown Since I was like a little kid, you know, because I feel like Pokemon is as big as it's ever been now.

00:28:21.515 --> 00:28:22.744
Like it's so popular.

00:28:23.346 --> 00:28:26.816
When you go to these live events, do people recognize you from your art or Twitch at all?

00:28:27.141 --> 00:28:30.611
Yes, I do have people that know me that recognize me.

00:28:30.661 --> 00:28:32.040
So I think that's pretty cool.

00:28:32.040 --> 00:28:35.621
I'm like, oh, my God, like I'm actually out here, like making a name for myself.

00:28:35.932 --> 00:28:37.063
You're becoming a celebrity.

00:28:38.459 --> 00:28:44.898
I feel like a regular girl, but I guess some people see it like that They do say like you kind of are like a celebrity, which is crazy.

00:28:45.481 --> 00:28:48.132
Well, Posh, I have one last question before we close the interview.

00:28:48.442 --> 00:28:49.211
You ready for it?

00:28:49.509 --> 00:28:50.740
Yes, I'm ready

00:28:51.029 --> 00:28:52.609
so we know Gengar's your favorite.

00:28:52.919 --> 00:28:59.328
So say like somebody's coming up to you and challenging you for a Pokemon battle in California somewhere, there's thunder, you're in a haunted house, whatever.

00:28:59.598 --> 00:29:01.558
What other five Pokemon would you include on your team?

00:29:02.169 --> 00:29:15.556
That's a good one, okay, so I would have Gengar of course I would have Charizard, I would have Clefable, I would have Jirachi and Umbreon.

00:29:16.153 --> 00:29:19.365
And then I would probably just have a Haunter as well.

00:29:20.191 --> 00:29:20.711
there you go.

00:29:20.721 --> 00:29:21.861
More of the ghastly family.

00:29:22.256 --> 00:29:24.205
Yeah, throw Haunter there too.

00:29:25.161 --> 00:29:26.911
Well, posh, thank you for coming on the show.

00:29:26.911 --> 00:29:28.221
You've been a wonderful guest.

00:29:28.280 --> 00:29:34.611
If people want to check out your art, if they want to watch you on Twitch, if they want to just connect with you, where can they go by all means, please plug away.

00:29:35.215 --> 00:29:38.232

queen.

00:29:46.797 --> 00:29:47.247
