TRAINER'S EYE #88 - "The Lapras Ferry into the Ice Palace" ft. FinalBossAJ

TRAINER'S EYE #88 -

In this Pokemon interview, we are joined by FinalBossAJ, a Pokemon Trainer from Nova Scotia with a passion for both Pokemon GO PvP Battles and Ice-type Pokemon.

FinalBossAJ's Pokemon journey started with Pokemon Blue where she would play alongside her brother beating the Elite Four, Battling, and catching Mewtwo. She played Pokemon throughout its history with a fondness for Pokemon Black and White because of it's unique story and characters.

Afterwards, FinalBossAJ transitioned to Pokemon GO where she would battle the gyms and sweep the areas for Team Instinct. Her interest eventually went to Pokemon GO PvP where she would battle in GBL and compete for cosmetic clothes available for Legend rank.

FinalBossAJ speaks with her time on Twitch and how she built both a persona and an audience that identified with her deep passion for Pokeon battles ranging from major triumphs to painful defeats.

Finally, FinalBossAJ participates in a returning segment called "What's That Pokemon?" You don't want to miss this segment as FinalBossAJ tests her Pokemon knowledge!

00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:03.580
My name is David Hernandez, and you're listening to As the Pokeball Turns.

00:00:44.064 --> 00:00:46.433
Welcome to As the Pokéball Turns.

00:00:46.801 --> 00:00:55.042
Our journey takes us to Novia Scotia where we meet a Pokémon trainer whose heated passion for competition is only rivaled by her love for ice Pokémon.

00:00:55.359 --> 00:01:06.046
With a background in sports journalism, she has transferred her abilities to Pokémon GO PvP, where she hoses her battles on Twitch and even shoutcasts across different communities in Pokémon GO.

00:01:06.373 --> 00:01:11.917
And that is just the tip of the iceberg, because we put her on thin ice in a game of What's That Pokemon?

00:01:12.280 --> 00:01:16.704
Will she best us when it comes to icy Pokemon, or will she be left frozen solid?

00:01:17.015 --> 00:01:17.754
Are you ready?

00:01:18.355 --> 00:01:20.484
Here is her origin story into the world of Pokemon.

00:01:21.114 --> 00:01:23.185
This is Final Boss AJ.

00:01:24.460 --> 00:01:29.590
today I'm joined by the Queen of Ice Final Boss AJ.

00:01:29.590 --> 00:01:30.861
Welcome to the show.

00:01:31.167 --> 00:01:36.316
Thank you for having me and thank you for the lovely intro worthy of someone of my stature.

00:01:36.641 --> 00:01:41.081
Articuno is my favorite Pokemon, so I feel like it's kind of we're distant cousins almost with the Queen of Ice.

00:01:41.180 --> 00:01:44.171
Oh my gosh I might have to bring my Articuno plushie out.

00:01:44.650 --> 00:01:45.960
That is so cute

00:01:46.254 --> 00:01:46.864
one of many.

00:01:47.209 --> 00:01:50.605
For those who are listening, she has an Articuno plus she just hanging on her wrist.

00:01:50.756 --> 00:01:51.646
Where'd you get that from?

00:01:51.986 --> 00:01:55.512
you know, just had to add to my collection of, Ice Pokémon.

00:01:55.561 --> 00:02:00.171
I I know you can't see, but they are, like, all through my desk and, like my TV stand.

00:02:00.471 --> 00:02:02.302
Articuno is a very prominent place, though.

00:02:02.602 --> 00:02:05.281
but yeah, just, you know, various regionals I go to.

00:02:05.281 --> 00:02:08.355
I try to get at least one from every regional I go to.

00:02:08.639 --> 00:02:13.248
I came home from Vancouver with an Eevee that is like the size of my pillow.

00:02:13.635 --> 00:02:15.186
Uh, I won that one though.

00:02:15.626 --> 00:02:16.945
I didn't buy that one.

00:02:16.985 --> 00:02:17.776
I won that.

00:02:18.075 --> 00:02:19.716
Oh, through like playing PVP or how'd

00:02:19.765 --> 00:02:20.156
yeah.

00:02:20.472 --> 00:02:22.122
I came second in one of the events.

00:02:22.442 --> 00:02:24.252
So they're like, here's the prizes.

00:02:24.342 --> 00:02:27.711
And, my dear friend Wild Susan Bull is like, you should get the giant Eevee.

00:02:27.711 --> 00:02:31.021
I'm like, that will not fit in my, carry on whatsoever.

00:02:31.021 --> 00:02:32.062
He's like, yeah, it will.

00:02:32.211 --> 00:02:36.831
And technically he was right, but it took up 75 percent of my carry on.

00:02:36.852 --> 00:02:40.991
So I had to get really creative getting my entire wardrobe back from Vancouver.

00:02:40.991 --> 00:02:41.331
So

00:02:42.692 --> 00:02:43.611
Well, let me ask you this.

00:02:43.611 --> 00:02:46.179
So what is it about the ice type Pokemon that kind of draws you to them?

00:02:46.498 --> 00:02:49.348
well, ICE has always been like one of my favorite types.

00:02:49.348 --> 00:02:54.235
I mean, I know this is, this is a podcast where we get like deep into the Pokemon lore, right?

00:02:54.568 --> 00:02:57.449
I'm gonna out myself as old, but I am an og.

00:02:57.479 --> 00:02:59.158
I started with red and blue.

00:02:59.225 --> 00:03:03.966
and you know, you go through that and like your first taste of the Elite four.

00:03:04.074 --> 00:03:25.856
is Lorelai and she's just so freaking cool just there like you know welcome this is a whole new world for you you beat the bad rocket boss now this is where the real shit gets done and like from that second it's just like oh my god that's who I want to be growing up You know, Lapras was like, one of my favorite Pokemon forever.

00:03:25.895 --> 00:03:35.746
and it took a lot, it took a lot to usurp that position, but Gen 4, when you release a female Pokemon that is the embodiment of ice and spite.

00:03:37.036 --> 00:03:39.385
That's, that's gonna get me.

00:03:39.556 --> 00:03:43.346
So Lapras is still top three, but like it started early.

00:03:43.635 --> 00:03:44.806
You know, I'm Canadian.

00:03:45.191 --> 00:03:46.651
we're known for winter.

00:03:46.651 --> 00:03:48.341
We embrace the cold.

00:03:48.730 --> 00:03:50.510
We have power over it.

00:03:50.561 --> 00:03:56.251
So it was natural to just take that in and marry that to basically what I've, what I've crafted here.

00:03:56.251 --> 00:04:01.501
And, and, you know, one day, one day, They're going to do my ice Pokemon right.

00:04:01.864 --> 00:04:02.734
They started doing that.

00:04:02.734 --> 00:04:05.993
They've given us like snow, it boosts the defense in the VGC side.

00:04:05.993 --> 00:04:14.507
So they're starting to do it right, but one day it'll hit Pokemon Go and you know, I'll be able to use my ice Pokemon properly.

00:04:15.109 --> 00:04:27.928
I will say I feel like Lorelei is a very underrated Elite 4 from Gen 1 Because she has this kind of swagger and it's both within the anime But also within the games to where I think her wasn't she like an ice floor kind of thing

00:04:28.019 --> 00:04:28.488
Mm hmm.

00:04:28.798 --> 00:04:41.798
on the outside And then yeah, and she used ice Pokemon, which is really cool Like no pun intended but it's just really neat to see her and she just had this very Different aura compared to like maybe a Bruno and even to add Abigail which just wasn't the same you

00:04:41.879 --> 00:04:44.949
well, I mean, she clearly didn't need it because she wasn't there in Johto.

00:04:44.978 --> 00:04:48.218
They replaced her with Will, who's just like, Oh, it's glass now.

00:04:48.218 --> 00:04:49.288
Like, no, Will.

00:04:49.298 --> 00:04:51.588
We all know whose room this is, Will.

00:04:51.588 --> 00:04:52.918
You freaking pretender.

00:04:52.918 --> 00:04:55.639
Get your psychic Pokemon out of here, Will.

00:04:56.098 --> 00:04:56.309
No.

00:04:56.309 --> 00:04:56.408
Zatu.

00:04:59.463 --> 00:05:01.184
Oh my god, Will.

00:05:01.244 --> 00:05:02.603
Freaking waste of space.

00:05:02.903 --> 00:05:05.134
but yeah, I wonder if it's because of the anime.

00:05:05.184 --> 00:05:07.723
Because Lorelei never really got her shine in the anime.

00:05:07.824 --> 00:05:09.663
Cause they said her name was Prima.

00:05:09.673 --> 00:05:11.624
So, like, oh is this a different character?

00:05:11.624 --> 00:05:12.884
No, it's still Lorelei.

00:05:12.934 --> 00:05:14.184
You just need to know that.

00:05:14.781 --> 00:05:20.060
Now, you said you started with red and blue, so, like, did you start, like, back when we were all, like, in the 90s boomers, or, like

00:05:20.310 --> 00:05:21.000
I was a kid.

00:05:21.257 --> 00:05:23.976
like I said, I can remember my first time catching Mewtwo.

00:05:23.978 --> 00:05:24.622
So.

00:05:24.899 --> 00:05:25.939
I think I was seven.

00:05:26.182 --> 00:05:28.211
Um, I was playing at family friend's house.

00:05:28.242 --> 00:05:30.762
Cause my brother and I, both got Game Boy Colors.

00:05:31.218 --> 00:05:32.588
he got red, I got blue.

00:05:33.059 --> 00:05:34.516
So it was starting with, Blastoise.

00:05:34.516 --> 00:05:42.476
And, we played through, and we were at this family friend's, down the road, and, like, they were in the living room, like, talking to me and my brother, we were in the kitchen, at the dining room table.

00:05:42.790 --> 00:05:55.011
I finally got through Cerulean Cave, and found Mewtwo, and, you know, little tiny AJ battling away at Mewtwo and like, I just had Alakazam just sitting in there cause it was psychic on psychic and psychic was the best type.

00:05:55.011 --> 00:06:03.137
So it's just, two titans of psychic, damage going on and like, Alakazam would throw Psychic, and Mewtwo would recover, and Mewtwo would throw Psychic, and Alexandra would recover.

00:06:03.307 --> 00:06:09.846
And that went on for like a half an hour at that kitchen table, before I finally threw a Pokeball and caught it.

00:06:10.170 --> 00:06:15.021
And only looking back on it now, did I realize that I threw the Master Ball at it.

00:06:15.021 --> 00:06:18.831
I didn't have to spend a half an hour of my life sitting at that table.

00:06:18.831 --> 00:06:22.901
I could just chuck that ball and caught it so easily.

00:06:23.110 --> 00:06:26.490
But because I had that back and forth with my brother watching.

00:06:27.370 --> 00:06:30.961
That made that memory stick out so much in my mind.

00:06:30.961 --> 00:06:35.880
And I still have the table because it's in my, uh, in my kitchen right now because we got

00:06:35.896 --> 00:06:36.206
on.

00:06:36.430 --> 00:06:36.841
Yeah.

00:06:36.860 --> 00:06:37.571
We got it.

00:06:37.867 --> 00:06:39.557
So is your brother, like fully invested?

00:06:39.557 --> 00:06:41.797
Just watching you wait and see if you're going to catch it kind of thing.

00:06:41.797 --> 00:06:42.007
Like it

00:06:42.141 --> 00:06:50.738
He, he was, he was back in, back in the day, like when we were in school growing up, like every, every game, like he would get one, I would get the other.

00:06:50.809 --> 00:06:54.682
And we'd like battle and play through, basically up until I graduated high school.

00:06:54.692 --> 00:06:54.711
Yeah.

00:06:54.713 --> 00:06:54.781
Yeah.

00:06:55.105 --> 00:07:03.269
and you know, he doesn't have nearly as much time for Pokemon now because he's a dad and has a kid who I am slowly bringing into the fold.

00:07:03.269 --> 00:07:05.649
She had a Pikachu birthday cake this year.

00:07:05.649 --> 00:07:07.019
I was very proud of that.

00:07:07.028 --> 00:07:08.559
I'm slowly bringing her in.

00:07:08.872 --> 00:07:10.992
the next generation of, Ice Queens.

00:07:11.591 --> 00:07:13.742
Did y'all still stick with Pokemon even after Gen one?

00:07:14.237 --> 00:07:16.970
Oh yeah, no, I've played every single game.

00:07:16.970 --> 00:07:19.699
Like, every, every, every single main series game, I'm sorry.

00:07:19.699 --> 00:07:25.507
I, did not play Pokemon Trozei or Pokemon Rumble, whatever the heck that was for DS.

00:07:25.576 --> 00:07:29.487
I didn't play those, but every single main series game, I have played.

00:07:29.487 --> 00:07:34.346
and most of the other ones, I'm just saying, my Pokemon Bonafides cannot be denied

00:07:35.672 --> 00:07:37.382
what's your favorite generation to play?

00:07:37.973 --> 00:07:38.783
To play.

00:07:39.803 --> 00:07:42.786
this is going to be the one that, gets some comments.

00:07:42.786 --> 00:07:47.214
I think I really liked gen five, like gen five was like,

00:07:47.490 --> 00:07:48.060
black and white?

00:07:48.079 --> 00:07:48.329
Yeah.

00:07:48.384 --> 00:07:55.399
yeah, Yeah, and not, not even that, like, Black 2, White 2, which, like, like, if I'm taking that generation as a whole, I think that was the best one.

00:07:55.399 --> 00:08:04.211
And then that was also, the first one where I really, like, came up with a strategy that worked because, like, one of my favorite non ICE types, is Liligant.

00:08:04.524 --> 00:08:08.636
I even think I started with Serperior and I benched it for Liligant.

00:08:09.026 --> 00:08:17.048
Cause Liligant, all you had to do was put the first Pokemon to sleep, Two Quiver Dances, and then Petal Dance until everything dies.

00:08:17.608 --> 00:08:19.538
And that was just fun.

00:08:19.538 --> 00:08:22.309
Like, I think I literally beat the Elite Four with just Lilligant.

00:08:23.189 --> 00:08:28.949
And I was like so proud of myself and so proud of that little grass Pokemon just dancing on fools.

00:08:28.949 --> 00:08:31.036
and like, and like, I know they completely redid it.

00:08:31.065 --> 00:08:32.645
So you had all these new Pokemon and stuff.

00:08:32.645 --> 00:08:36.102
So finding new stuff like that was like really exciting at the time.

00:08:36.433 --> 00:08:40.553
I'm like, I think the stories are really good in that as well.

00:08:40.553 --> 00:08:42.533
So I'm really high on Gen 5.

00:08:42.653 --> 00:08:44.413
I know you'll get a lot of people like Gen 3.

00:08:44.433 --> 00:08:44.724
Great.

00:08:45.028 --> 00:08:46.291
I'm in that middle pack.

00:08:46.301 --> 00:08:47.750
I like Gen 5 a lot.

00:08:48.384 --> 00:08:49.283
No, I'm the same way.

00:08:49.647 --> 00:09:02.304
Gen 3 is one of my favorite regions, but I love Gen 5 story because of Team Plasma and, debating in regards to, I just did a Reddit comment just a minute ago, asking about the whole, he's questioning his ideology based on Gen 5 and that's what it made.

00:09:02.304 --> 00:09:08.054
It made you think as a Pokemon fan, which is not too common, at least within the main series games, you know, just to

00:09:08.095 --> 00:09:08.414
Yeah.

00:09:09.174 --> 00:09:14.085
It's funny that it was black and white and the story made you think of what shade of gray are you?

00:09:14.379 --> 00:09:16.360
Cause it, it just wasn't that easy.

00:09:16.450 --> 00:09:22.659
I mean, like, spoiler alert, it did turn out that way in the end, but Anne is one of the best characters they made because of that.

00:09:23.207 --> 00:09:29.327
Now, you said black and white too were the ones, specifically those two games, so what was it different about those two games compared to like black and white

00:09:29.908 --> 00:09:37.927
I like the fact that they went, they not only went back, like, you know, as, as someone who grew up, like, here's yellow version, crystal, like, basically treading the same path.

00:09:38.278 --> 00:09:39.758
It was completely different.

00:09:40.067 --> 00:09:43.172
Like, here's this whole new region, here are these new gym leaders.

00:09:43.371 --> 00:09:47.331
It seemed like such an advancement for what they were willing to do, like with the sequels.

00:09:47.331 --> 00:09:49.711
It was like a brand new game and I really like that.

00:09:50.022 --> 00:09:53.095
I really like having that familiar frame, but now here we go.

00:09:53.095 --> 00:09:54.215
We're going, we're going back.

00:09:54.225 --> 00:10:04.546
Like, you can admittedly say it set the tone for like later DLC stuff and that, but at the time getting that whole new game, getting that whole new experience, It changed what I thought could be done with Pokemon.

00:10:04.566 --> 00:10:05.296
It was really nice.

00:10:05.316 --> 00:10:08.581
And then they blew it all with Gen 6, so What do I know?

00:10:09.142 --> 00:10:10.562
What did I know?

00:10:10.591 --> 00:10:14.220
But, But yeah, that was my peak Gen 5.

00:10:14.250 --> 00:10:21.104
Like Gen 7, I think like I played it a few times and then I tried to go back to Ultra Moon, but I've been stuck on like the second island.

00:10:21.104 --> 00:10:24.533
I haven't, I haven't gone back and, and finished it.

00:10:24.533 --> 00:10:26.573
Like it was something to play on the airplane, right?

00:10:26.844 --> 00:10:34.958
But yeah, like the later ones, honestly, I haven't gone back and played through because the whole thing in itself, like you do that one playthrough and you're done, right?

00:10:35.188 --> 00:10:38.519
Five, I can go back and just like do, do an over.

00:10:38.619 --> 00:10:38.948
Yeah.

00:10:39.359 --> 00:10:42.328
So eventually, AJ, Pokemon Go does come out in 2016.

00:10:42.509 --> 00:10:46.995
I'm guessing since you're a Pokemon fan, I'm gonna go on a hunch that you played day one.

00:10:47.299 --> 00:10:48.000
Close.

00:10:48.306 --> 00:10:50.216
because it came out a little later in Canada.

00:10:50.509 --> 00:10:52.230
I think it by, like, a week.

00:10:52.631 --> 00:10:52.922
Really?

00:10:52.922 --> 00:10:54.042
That far behind for y'all?,

00:10:54.625 --> 00:10:56.914
well, like, it wasn't on the, on the Play Store.

00:10:56.955 --> 00:10:58.855
So, like, a bunch of people were downloading it.

00:10:58.855 --> 00:11:01.465
from APKs, so I waited.

00:11:01.721 --> 00:11:03.101
I'm a hundred percent above board.

00:11:03.414 --> 00:11:06.024
so I, I waited for like a week, but yeah.

00:11:06.067 --> 00:11:12.392
July 13th, 2016 is when Final boss, AJ officially entered the picture.

00:11:12.856 --> 00:11:15.187
how was you playing those first couple of weeks you?

00:11:16.027 --> 00:11:16.376
God.

00:11:16.765 --> 00:11:26.875
so, I don't know how many listeners remember those old days, but think back to the long, long ago of the days when there were ten Pokemon in gyms.

00:11:27.251 --> 00:11:31.971
And, you know, every one of them would be a Dragonite or a Vaporeon.

00:11:31.971 --> 00:11:35.091
And you'd have to have the Pokemon to, like, try and battle.

00:11:35.302 --> 00:11:39.721
Like, Admittedly as an ice trainer, you know, kind of suited to take on Dragonites.

00:11:40.049 --> 00:11:50.299
And I actually checked this on stream recently, the second oldest Pokémon I have right now, after my starter, because I kept my starter, second oldest Pokémon I have is the first ice Pokémon I caught.

00:11:50.299 --> 00:11:52.529
I caught it the same day, it's a Jynx.

00:11:53.475 --> 00:11:56.764
And I was raising up the Jinx to battle Dragonites.

00:11:56.764 --> 00:12:00.904
And, you know, that was before IVs, like, Yeah, this is a really high level Jinx.

00:12:00.904 --> 00:12:01.825
It's gonna be great.

00:12:01.825 --> 00:12:03.644
And it's gonna take down all the Dragonites.

00:12:04.054 --> 00:12:06.595
Uh, it is a 7/15/5 Jynx.

00:12:06.615 --> 00:12:08.715
And I powered it up past level 30.

00:12:08.715 --> 00:12:10.504
Cause, uh, it was not bright.

00:12:10.674 --> 00:12:14.174
So, I keep her here as a reminder.

00:12:14.448 --> 00:12:16.225
You know, A, as my first ice type.

00:12:16.264 --> 00:12:18.325
And B, as a cautionary tale.

00:12:18.325 --> 00:12:18.495
Uh.

00:12:19.369 --> 00:12:25.339
But, yeah, those, those first few days, especially when you're instinct, because everyone was like Valor or Mystic.

00:12:25.708 --> 00:12:31.184
And, I literally had one person in my class that was instinct beside me and he quit after a week.

00:12:31.304 --> 00:12:32.434
So it was just me.

00:12:32.698 --> 00:12:32.938
just,

00:12:33.099 --> 00:12:33.869
the world,

00:12:33.908 --> 00:12:36.658
yeah, yeah, typical instinct, right?

00:12:36.739 --> 00:12:37.198
right?

00:12:38.004 --> 00:12:39.422
But, that's what we did.

00:12:39.422 --> 00:12:42.908
and, you know, I was primarily a gym battler for the first little bit.

00:12:42.908 --> 00:12:46.158
Like, that would be what I, what I would do, even when I moved back.

00:12:46.460 --> 00:12:48.080
And, it would be the same thing.

00:12:48.080 --> 00:12:52.139
Like, there would be a few of us instincts kicking around, and we'd just try and fight as many gyms as possible.

00:12:52.139 --> 00:12:56.759
And that, that was what I got out of the game, was just trying to, you know, keep taking out those gyms.

00:12:57.081 --> 00:12:59.561
I didn't even get into PvP, until a little later.

00:12:59.866 --> 00:13:00.267
Really?

00:13:00.267 --> 00:13:02.726
What was it about the gyms that kind of kept you engaged with the game?

00:13:03.363 --> 00:13:04.373
it was something to do.

00:13:04.493 --> 00:13:06.403
I've never been a big, like, collector.

00:13:06.413 --> 00:13:09.043
I've always been more of a fighter.

00:13:09.043 --> 00:13:10.793
I come, I come from a sports background.

00:13:11.068 --> 00:13:15.027
So I'm always about, competition and trying to prove yourself against others.

00:13:15.886 --> 00:13:19.767
So the gym system was basically the only way you could do that.

00:13:20.072 --> 00:13:21.591
And like, we've all done gyms, right?

00:13:21.591 --> 00:13:23.841
Again, growing up on the franchise, what's the goal?

00:13:23.981 --> 00:13:26.322
Beat the gyms, go to Elite Four, do all that.

00:13:26.341 --> 00:13:27.772
So what was my goal in this game?

00:13:27.792 --> 00:13:31.142
Beat all the gyms, turn them yellow, get the coins, do whatever.

00:13:31.476 --> 00:13:35.924
So I would focus on that and then when I moved to Halifax, I was working like a night job.

00:13:35.924 --> 00:13:40.495
So I'd just get off work and I just drive around because no one's defending those gyms at night.

00:13:40.860 --> 00:13:41.559
aren't.

00:13:42.125 --> 00:13:43.294
bulldozing them.

00:13:43.957 --> 00:13:48.029
so yeah, that kept me going for a bit, but you can only do so much with those.

00:13:48.386 --> 00:13:52.187
by the time 2020 rolled around, I was just like, what am I doing?

00:13:52.466 --> 00:13:55.318
I just got, so like, down on the gyms.

00:13:55.318 --> 00:13:59.129
I just like, didn't want to, didn't want, like, I still do them obviously.

00:13:59.129 --> 00:13:59.979
I'm instinct.

00:14:00.009 --> 00:14:06.835
It's, it's in our blood, but definitely not to the point where I'm going to be like, okay, I've got three hours and a car.

00:14:06.875 --> 00:14:08.825
Let's see if I can get 20 gyms.

00:14:08.865 --> 00:14:09.784
We're not doing that.

00:14:10.269 --> 00:14:11.149
So is that kind of your goal?

00:14:11.149 --> 00:14:14.730
You would go out and just try to get 20 gyms or you try to take dirt areas, gold gyms.

00:14:14.889 --> 00:14:14.980
how

00:14:15.065 --> 00:14:15.575
Yeah.

00:14:15.634 --> 00:14:15.884
Yeah.

00:14:15.884 --> 00:14:19.840
I, I go like, you know, certain areas and like bulldoze a bunch of gyms.

00:14:20.129 --> 00:14:21.929
I did not have any chill.

00:14:22.264 --> 00:14:24.693
it was just like, I don't care whose gym this is.

00:14:24.740 --> 00:14:25.730
I'm beating it up.

00:14:25.730 --> 00:14:30.053
which, you know, little toxic, but I'm not spoofing to take the gyms out.

00:14:30.361 --> 00:14:36.292
But that was it and and you know what if they didn't introduce PvP, I don't think I'd be playing the game anymore,

00:14:36.522 --> 00:14:37.371
Really?

00:14:37.392 --> 00:14:38.211
Wow.

00:14:38.553 --> 00:14:39.203
So.

00:14:39.285 --> 00:14:44.753
You know, when PvP started becoming a thing, like, that was the next natural evolution.

00:14:44.863 --> 00:14:47.753
But, like, I didn't take it nearly as seriously at first.

00:14:48.552 --> 00:14:52.113
Like, the first few seasons, I'm just like, oh, this is another way to get Stardust.

00:14:52.133 --> 00:14:52.562
Yay.

00:14:52.802 --> 00:14:58.533
When they have, like, that walking requirement on, where it's like, yeah, go walk five kilometers so you can lose five times.

00:14:58.533 --> 00:14:59.932
Like, I don't want to do that.

00:15:00.273 --> 00:15:03.202
Like, no one wants to walk just to be a loser.

00:15:03.432 --> 00:15:04.102
So,

00:15:04.118 --> 00:15:05.668
what kept you out of PvP initially?

00:15:05.913 --> 00:15:07.538
Yeah, like, I work from home.

00:15:07.567 --> 00:15:10.187
I'm not, I'm not out grinding or anything.

00:15:10.467 --> 00:15:14.839
I'm not walking five kilometers in a day just to get one set of battles.

00:15:14.948 --> 00:15:17.288
Like, so I just didn't pay it any attention.

00:15:17.288 --> 00:15:20.499
And then they're like, when the pandemic hit, they're like, oh, we're dropping a walk.

00:15:20.649 --> 00:15:21.318
All right, cool.

00:15:21.318 --> 00:15:23.068
Now I can actually try and do this.

00:15:23.365 --> 00:15:27.768
but I didn't actually start getting into it seriously until like season seven.

00:15:28.067 --> 00:15:36.427
Which ties back to our early, conversation because the thing that got me into season seven was the fact that Elisa was the reward.

00:15:36.761 --> 00:15:40.011
I wanted that outfit so badly.

00:15:40.048 --> 00:15:44.568
And like, like I said, I, had nowhere near the amount of experience as anyone else coming in.

00:15:44.568 --> 00:15:45.469
Like, I was a rookie.

00:15:45.777 --> 00:15:50.253
I had a few battles under my belt, but I'm like, Alright, I got no idea what's going on.

00:15:50.253 --> 00:15:52.873
I got a catch cup, Whiscash.

00:15:52.873 --> 00:15:54.072
Let's see what I can do.

00:15:54.072 --> 00:15:58.412
Um, and you know, I was, I was just powering up like whatever I have.

00:15:58.432 --> 00:16:00.052
I have a Kyogre powered up.

00:16:00.052 --> 00:16:01.221
It's like a 93.

00:16:01.221 --> 00:16:01.902
It's terrible.

00:16:02.241 --> 00:16:04.601
But I just needed something for Master League.

00:16:04.652 --> 00:16:11.615
So I powered up all these things and I got Expert my first season and didn't get Legend.

00:16:12.105 --> 00:16:15.285
And that was the season you had to be Legend to get Elisa.

00:16:15.607 --> 00:16:17.347
So I don't have those headphones.

00:16:17.410 --> 00:16:21.833
And I don't have that outfit, and I don't have that pose, and I got mad.

00:16:21.994 --> 00:16:24.923
And that's when I started actually taking it seriously.

00:16:25.173 --> 00:16:32.453
And, you know, like, watching FP Stix and Rise videos, and like, going on Twitch, and like, you know, seeing, seeing people.

00:16:32.453 --> 00:16:35.053
And, and, that's the creation story.

00:16:35.053 --> 00:16:40.071
That's the origin myth of Final Boss AJ and what she's done to Twitch.

00:16:40.071 --> 00:16:43.605
Wow, so that's when streaming yourself at that point?

00:16:43.625 --> 00:16:45.195
Or did that come a little bit later on?

00:16:45.360 --> 00:16:46.549
Pretty, pretty quickly.

00:16:46.549 --> 00:16:48.529
Like, it wasn't to the extent of now.

00:16:48.750 --> 00:16:50.929
Where, I'm looking at check marks and everything.

00:16:51.320 --> 00:16:53.929
But, you know, it was just for fun, at first.

00:16:53.980 --> 00:16:57.639
You know, Alphindiel was great in bringing me in and I was asking questions.

00:16:57.639 --> 00:17:04.590
Like, I had, I had a stream set up a little bit because I was going to do baseball stuff because, long, long ago, before I was a Pokémon content creator.

00:17:04.611 --> 00:17:06.171
I was a sports podcaster.

00:17:06.240 --> 00:17:10.181
I covered the Blue Jays for four years for a national podcast network.

00:17:10.530 --> 00:17:16.414
And, uh, so I had, I had a setup, but I didn't really have the time, you know, I was busy working.

00:17:16.414 --> 00:17:21.515
I was in a relationship with someone who did not care about Pokemon nearly as much as I did.

00:17:21.807 --> 00:17:23.107
That is to say at all.

00:17:23.414 --> 00:17:28.141
so I didn't, She, she liked Mantine.

00:17:28.201 --> 00:17:29.820
Mantine was her favorite Pokemon.

00:17:30.510 --> 00:17:33.050
I, I have like 20 Mantines.

00:17:33.050 --> 00:17:36.770
Cause she, if she saw me catch one, she wouldn't let me transfer it.

00:17:37.340 --> 00:17:40.393
Um, but yeah, I wasn't actually focusing on it.

00:17:40.393 --> 00:17:48.153
It wasn't until I moved into my new place where I'm like, Why don't I make a go of this every day and see what I can do and see if people gel and vibe.

00:17:48.163 --> 00:18:00.576
And, it was a little slow to get off the ground, but I made enough appearances on other channels that like people knew me and like I was at least, a name they could see and like a girl that PVP is putting herself out there.

00:18:00.746 --> 00:18:06.871
Like I said, it all, it all starts with Elisa and it all starts with the support I got from, Alfindial and NHoff.

00:18:07.090 --> 00:18:08.351
bringing me into that community.

00:18:08.351 --> 00:18:16.990
And then, and then, like I said, as I got more comfortable doing it, as I matured more, I got, I got more people who, were big helps.

00:18:16.990 --> 00:18:23.526
I mean, Battle Bill was instrumental in helping me really develop what I wanted to put on screen.

00:18:23.849 --> 00:18:27.410
And then, you know, he brought me into Team Asylum and that's been a lot of support.

00:18:27.410 --> 00:18:34.115
And then, people like MysticSparkle who've been, like, consistent, like, duos and friends and, like, you know, trading me a bunch of Pokémon.

00:18:34.483 --> 00:18:36.834
you know, just, just keeping it fruiting now.

00:18:37.179 --> 00:18:46.219
the guys at Pallet Town PVP, MyPVPEcademia, were great in putting me on broadcasts and letting me use my sports talents and getting that side of my personality out there.

00:18:46.265 --> 00:18:51.704
to, guys like Axin and Doonbug, giving me their stamp of approval, like, go watch this girl.

00:18:52.003 --> 00:18:54.901
it's been a long grind, but, you know, I'm up there.

00:18:54.901 --> 00:19:02.894
So, I can, I can actually say, maybe I'm a B list streamer instead of like that, that F list baseball personality,

00:19:04.159 --> 00:19:12.159
I was wondering, like, cause you come from a sports background, primarily baseball, how much has that helped you kind of be able to bring that into Pokemon Go and in what ways have you been able to?

00:19:12.760 --> 00:19:15.835
well, uh, first of all, I am trained as a sports journalist.

00:19:15.835 --> 00:19:18.184
I, I was in Toronto at sports journalism school.

00:19:18.230 --> 00:19:20.300
and so I trained in play by play as well.

00:19:20.330 --> 00:19:21.510
That was part of the curriculum.

00:19:21.520 --> 00:19:30.194
So that was one of the first things I brought, like when I started seeing, broadcasts on Team Rocket PVP and my PVP academia, I'm like, I could totally do this.

00:19:30.194 --> 00:19:34.845
Let me get in there and let me show you what I can do because I'm, I'm trained on it.

00:19:35.075 --> 00:19:35.974
Get me in.

00:19:36.268 --> 00:19:48.090
so that was one of the big ways I was able to present myself was just using that background and like applying You know, calling a basketball game is similar to calling a PVP match, especially in Pokemon Go.

00:19:48.090 --> 00:19:54.211
Like if it, if it's a, if it's a VGC game or TCG game, it's a little more like a chess commentary or something.

00:19:54.451 --> 00:20:01.381
But because GO is active, it requires that, you know, ability to articulate those actions so quickly.

00:20:02.215 --> 00:20:05.103
And because I was trained on basketball, because I was trained on hockey.

00:20:05.381 --> 00:20:07.151
I was able to do that pretty naturally.

00:20:07.181 --> 00:20:10.161
So that just translated and I was able to get that out there.

00:20:10.161 --> 00:20:12.210
And like, you know, I'm, a smart girl.

00:20:12.210 --> 00:20:13.559
I do my research.

00:20:13.609 --> 00:20:22.940
I want to be able to say things about specific battlers that like, Oh, this guy just won Utrecht or this guy has been captain of his team for like forever.

00:20:23.170 --> 00:20:30.509
So, you know, just, just those kinds of things that, you know, as a sports journalist, you do in the course of the game to bring that info to your audience.

00:20:30.821 --> 00:20:38.434
admittedly, it hasn't helped as much with my play because I don't get as focused, as I do like when I'm like, I'm a softball player.

00:20:38.515 --> 00:20:39.464
I play softball.

00:20:39.744 --> 00:20:44.590
So, not as focused when I'm doing a battle and obviously not when I'm like streaming and doing a battle.

00:20:44.611 --> 00:20:47.521
Cause you know, your first thought is I want to entertain.

00:20:47.741 --> 00:20:49.942
Second thought is I should probably try and win this.

00:20:51.436 --> 00:20:57.255
uh, priorities are a little different, but, you know, that's, who I've always been.

00:20:57.255 --> 00:21:02.075
I, I will focus on, on the story first and the actual results second.

00:21:02.214 --> 00:21:04.035
I think I get that from my dad

00:21:04.636 --> 00:21:07.596
You've been listening to As the Pokeball Turns.

00:21:07.979 --> 00:21:09.378
We're going to take a quick break.

00:21:09.788 --> 00:21:10.868
We'll be right back.

00:22:20.817 --> 00:22:24.576
So eventually you talked about how, you know, NHoff and Alfindeol were like big influences.

00:22:24.576 --> 00:22:28.920
You talked about brown baller and everybody else who really instrumental in your PVP journey.

00:22:29.237 --> 00:22:31.027
Why did you want to start going to Twitch?

00:22:31.625 --> 00:22:35.775
well, like I said, when I started getting into PVP, I'd just given up the podcast.

00:22:36.785 --> 00:22:38.615
So I like podcasting.

00:22:38.625 --> 00:22:41.795
I just didn't want to do it about the Blue Jays anymore.

00:22:41.974 --> 00:22:43.384
They've been bad for so long.

00:22:43.734 --> 00:22:44.815
I couldn't take it.

00:22:45.148 --> 00:22:45.679
Just kidding.

00:22:45.769 --> 00:22:47.398
Any Blue Jays fans listening to this.

00:22:47.884 --> 00:22:52.953
I say this conversation proves a Rangers fan and a Blue Jays fan can coexist in a podcast right now.

00:22:54.994 --> 00:22:57.065
I'll get my Jose Bautista baseball out.

00:22:57.970 --> 00:22:58.644
my, ha ha.

00:22:58.644 --> 00:22:59.400
ha ha.

00:22:59.875 --> 00:23:02.884
uh, yeah, you've won a World Series more recently.

00:23:02.884 --> 00:23:03.494
You're fine.

00:23:04.085 --> 00:23:04.704
Um,

00:23:04.869 --> 00:23:09.029
a, we made, we redeemed ourselves from the two, 10

00:23:09.491 --> 00:23:18.419
so yeah, I just given up the podcast, but I was still like, I like being able to, you know, at least have that interaction with people that share what I'm passionate about.

00:23:18.419 --> 00:23:21.138
And I wasn't passionate about as much about baseball anymore.

00:23:21.598 --> 00:23:24.989
So, watching Alfindeol and watching NHoff, get their stuff set up.

00:23:24.989 --> 00:23:26.098
I'm like, I could do that.

00:23:26.128 --> 00:23:27.128
And it did not go well.

00:23:27.469 --> 00:23:31.489
First of all, because the apartment I was on the, I was in the internet sucked.

00:23:31.888 --> 00:23:33.719
So the streams would keep cutting out.

00:23:33.719 --> 00:23:37.714
So I didn't have much of an audience for like the first, year I streamed.

00:23:38.058 --> 00:23:44.679
But, like I said, as I started, trying to work on it, it's probably for the best I didn't get seen a lot those early days because it wasn't great.

00:23:44.729 --> 00:23:52.703
Like I said, I didn't really have anything to offer besides just here's me sitting in front of my webcam playing this game and trying to play it All right.

00:23:52.743 --> 00:24:07.596
I'm like I wasn't as good back then but yeah, so I didn't really Develop like this this personality I got going until I started watching Battle Bill You know, got the attention for being, the, what am I watching?

00:24:07.596 --> 00:24:09.106
That, that guy, right?

00:24:09.106 --> 00:24:10.953
Um, but, yeah.

00:24:10.953 --> 00:24:13.193
So me and him had conversations and stuff.

00:24:13.233 --> 00:24:20.507
And then when he started doing variety content, I'd hop on and be in the voice call and his fan base was into me.

00:24:20.797 --> 00:24:28.440
they liked what I was putting down so when I started streaming later, like, they joined me in addition to the people I had who knew me from the Althendial cycles.

00:24:29.027 --> 00:24:31.423
cycles, circles, I'm talking too much.

00:24:31.720 --> 00:24:32.119
but,

00:24:32.355 --> 00:24:33.595
Welcome to as a pokeball turns.

00:24:34.789 --> 00:24:35.809
fitting right in.

00:24:36.150 --> 00:24:40.507
so yeah, but I was able to, bring that group in and like I said, start.

00:24:40.539 --> 00:24:45.519
developing this persona that I put on there and start developing some of the things that I could do.

00:24:45.519 --> 00:24:51.849
And when I moved into my own space, I know I'm not going to be, one of those streamers that is just like cool all the time.

00:24:52.240 --> 00:24:55.000
Like I'm, I'm not going to be composed a hundred percent of the time.

00:24:55.000 --> 00:24:56.039
I'm not like that.

00:24:56.039 --> 00:24:57.680
I'm too competitive, man.

00:24:57.900 --> 00:24:59.849
I can not be like that.

00:25:00.390 --> 00:25:00.680
But.

00:25:00.773 --> 00:25:09.527
Bill showed me the way to harness that emotion and be able to put that on display in a way that, resonates with people.

00:25:09.537 --> 00:25:17.567
They feel the joy, they feel the sadness, they feel the anger, they feel what I put on the screen.

00:25:17.869 --> 00:25:19.574
And that's such a big part.

00:25:19.574 --> 00:25:23.618
Like when I was on the podcast, I was more passionate than a lot of other people.

00:25:23.618 --> 00:25:26.868
I, I took that from, the podcast I listened to.

00:25:27.189 --> 00:25:36.169
I want the people who I'm hearing talking about stuff, I want them to be as invested in this as I am, as emotionally a part of this as I am.

00:25:36.179 --> 00:25:39.352
I don't want someone just like, droning on about whatever.

00:25:39.602 --> 00:25:41.628
I want, to feel it.

00:25:42.159 --> 00:25:50.162
And once I started putting that on there and, and you know, I've had some moments on stream where maybe it's a little too emotional.

00:25:50.162 --> 00:26:09.544
Maybe I break down just a little bit too much, but again, it's It's, on there and in this world where everyone's off doing their own thing sometimes, it, it just makes you feel a little more connected to know that someone else out there feels that emotion that you feel, feels that pain, feels that joy when you hit the ranks.

00:26:09.554 --> 00:26:12.079
It's like that connection with the audience is.

00:26:12.285 --> 00:26:14.484
That's what really drove me to keep going.

00:26:14.714 --> 00:26:27.154
And once I had the tools to do that, thanks to the people who I was able to work with and I trusted to give me those tools, that's, you know, when I started hitting the levels of success I had.

00:26:27.154 --> 00:26:27.568
heh

00:26:27.734 --> 00:26:28.654
like you wanted off the

00:26:29.321 --> 00:26:30.199
heh.

00:26:30.214 --> 00:26:36.088
wanted to be yourself and people to kind feel what you feel and feel that moment, which is what you should strive for as a content creator.

00:26:36.098 --> 00:26:39.845
Cause believe it or not, I always imagined myself having your kind of energy.

00:26:40.319 --> 00:26:41.430
But I'm not that guy.

00:26:41.660 --> 00:26:43.859
You're like my inner energy kind of spirit.

00:26:44.619 --> 00:26:45.430
more calm.

00:26:45.460 --> 00:26:46.420
I'm more laid back.

00:26:46.599 --> 00:26:50.269
much as I want to try to have that energy you have, I just don't got it.

00:26:50.269 --> 00:26:51.170
And I'm okay with that now.

00:26:51.170 --> 00:26:52.549
I've come to accept But

00:26:52.605 --> 00:26:54.365
call your inner demon, it's fine.

00:26:54.640 --> 00:26:55.269
There you go.

00:26:55.480 --> 00:26:56.170
You're my energy.

00:26:57.704 --> 00:26:58.244
It's fine.

00:26:58.835 --> 00:27:03.221
Well, AJ, before we close this interview off, we have one last segment I'd like to do.

00:27:03.501 --> 00:27:05.832
returning to this podcast, it's what's that Pokemon?

00:27:11.554 --> 00:27:16.104
Where there are 1, 000 Pokemon, but the only one that matters is the one that I'm thinking about.

00:27:16.451 --> 00:27:18.251
You have to guess the Pokemon I'm thinking about.

00:27:18.584 --> 00:27:23.372
You have 10 questions you can ask me in a yes or no format to kind of narrow down your choices.

00:27:23.684 --> 00:27:29.667
After you ask your 10 questions, you have to guess which Pokemon that I'm thinking of based on the information you're able to gather.

00:27:29.967 --> 00:27:32.807
how, how successful are people doing this?

00:27:33.111 --> 00:27:34.201
uh, three for four.

00:27:34.816 --> 00:27:35.516
Really?

00:27:35.526 --> 00:27:36.236
Shoot.

00:27:36.419 --> 00:27:39.638
I know you told me I could swear on this and I'm doing my best not to.

00:27:39.653 --> 00:27:42.703
But, uh, we'll see.

00:27:42.723 --> 00:27:43.753
We'll, we'll see.

00:27:43.753 --> 00:27:47.334
We'll see how far along I get on these questions and then maybe I'll start swearing.

00:27:47.590 --> 00:27:49.540
AJ, what's going to be your first question?

00:27:51.496 --> 00:27:55.695
Uh, was it introduced after Gen 5?

00:27:56.855 --> 00:27:59.655
Was the Pokemon I'm thinking about introduced after Gen 5?

00:28:00.586 --> 00:28:02.865
It was not introduced after Gen 5.

00:28:03.746 --> 00:28:04.336
Okay.

00:28:06.586 --> 00:28:07.096
Let me keep track

00:28:07.421 --> 00:28:10.361
Is it

00:28:10.486 --> 00:28:11.185
stuff on the internet.

00:28:11.185 --> 00:28:13.776
You don't have to if you need to look at the Pokedex and stuff like that.

00:28:14.520 --> 00:28:18.990
Oh, well I was gonna try and I guess, who am I trying to impress here?

00:28:19.330 --> 00:28:26.411
I'm just trying to be like, No, I'm not Googling, cause like, for the listener at home, you can see my screen in my glasses right now, So,

00:28:27.066 --> 00:28:30.026
Oh, is this is also audio only, so they won't even see the video.

00:28:30.361 --> 00:28:31.951
I know, I know, I'm outing myself.

00:28:31.990 --> 00:28:34.451
But hey, I'm 100%, that's what I do.

00:28:34.451 --> 00:28:38.891
Ha ha ha ha.

00:28:39.730 --> 00:28:40.641
Um.

00:28:40.952 --> 00:28:44.522
Is this a Pokemon that a gym leader has used in the game?

00:28:45.558 --> 00:28:47.628
Has this Pokemon been used by a Gym Leader?

00:28:48.836 --> 00:28:51.046
Yes, it has been used by a gym leader.

00:28:51.653 --> 00:28:53.013
all right, it's not one of those.

00:28:54.334 --> 00:28:55.544
God, there's so many general leaguers.

00:28:55.544 --> 00:28:56.814
That's a terrible question.

00:28:56.844 --> 00:28:57.784
What am I doing here?

00:28:57.784 --> 00:29:05.277
Um, Is this a Pokémon you would find in the mountains?

00:29:05.884 --> 00:29:08.844
Is this a Pokemon that you'd be able to find in the mountains?

00:29:10.057 --> 00:29:12.386
It is not a Pokemon you'd find in the mountains.

00:29:12.872 --> 00:29:14.652
All right, so there go all my ice types.

00:29:17.821 --> 00:29:20.251
well actually no, there are a couple, but we'll see.

00:29:20.251 --> 00:29:22.461
Okay.

00:29:22.642 --> 00:29:23.392
Uh.

00:29:23.616 --> 00:29:24.586
number four.

00:29:25.201 --> 00:29:32.511
Is this a Pokémon that has a specific gender, be it male, female, or non binary?

00:29:33.116 --> 00:29:36.086
Is this a Pokemon that is gender exclusive?

00:29:37.319 --> 00:29:39.049
It is not gender exclusive..

00:29:39.660 --> 00:29:40.750
Question number five.

00:29:41.269 --> 00:29:43.490
Pokémon than Gym Leaders used.

00:29:44.259 --> 00:29:53.049
So just to go over the questions quick, so before gen 5, it has been used by a gym leader, it is not a Pokemon you'd find in the mountains, and it's not gender exclusive.

00:29:53.539 --> 00:29:57.190
Thank you for knocking out Gen 5, because I wasn't sure which way you went on that.

00:29:58.650 --> 00:30:01.059
Well that's how you answer the question you asked gen 5.

00:30:01.519 --> 00:30:01.900
Yeah.

00:30:02.529 --> 00:30:05.569
Um, Okay.

00:30:07.359 --> 00:30:10.920
Is this a Pokemon that someone could conceivably ride upon?

00:30:11.517 --> 00:30:13.896
Is the Pokemon thinking of one you can ride upon?

00:30:13.896 --> 00:30:16.836
Yes.

00:30:19.237 --> 00:30:22.017
Yeah,

00:30:22.317 --> 00:30:23.767
We're on question number six.

00:30:24.507 --> 00:30:25.076
Halfway.

00:30:26.057 --> 00:30:27.876
yeah, I'm starting to get some ideas.

00:30:28.247 --> 00:30:30.336
I don't know if you tailor this to your guests or not.

00:30:33.532 --> 00:30:38.653
is this a Pokemon that would be comfortable if you dropped it off the side of a boat?

00:30:39.265 --> 00:30:41.204
This is a very interesting question.

00:30:42.025 --> 00:30:47.704
Is this a Pokemon that So will we count Torkoal drowning in the ocean as comfortable?

00:30:48.450 --> 00:30:49.730
is comfortable at all.

00:30:49.730 --> 00:30:51.279
That is the opposite of comfortable.

00:30:51.289 --> 00:30:54.069
That is, that is Pokemon cruelty, sir.

00:30:54.654 --> 00:30:55.055
I know.

00:30:55.295 --> 00:30:58.325
Is this a Pokemon that would be comfortable if you drop it off a boat?

00:30:58.615 --> 00:30:59.515
That's your question?

00:30:59.720 --> 00:31:04.319
the side of a boat, like, you know, one of those fishing boats that's like low to the water.

00:31:04.319 --> 00:31:07.089
So we're talking like a three foot drop into the water.

00:31:10.086 --> 00:31:12.596
It would be comfortable being dropped off the boat.

00:31:13.146 --> 00:31:13.676
Okay.

00:31:14.412 --> 00:31:15.521
That's question number six.

00:31:15.521 --> 00:31:16.602
We're on question number seven.

00:31:17.457 --> 00:31:18.076
Okay.

00:31:20.136 --> 00:31:23.196
Now I'm just trying to think of more interesting questions that.

00:31:24.217 --> 00:31:25.126
Uh.

00:31:27.027 --> 00:31:29.277
Can this Pokemon learn Ice Beam?

00:31:29.887 --> 00:31:31.798
Can the Pokemon thinking of learn Ice Beam?

00:31:34.917 --> 00:31:36.548
It can learn Ice Beam.

00:31:39.913 --> 00:31:42.884
Alright, see, like I said, I've got some ideas, and I don't know.

00:31:42.983 --> 00:31:45.334
I don't know if you're, thinking on my wavelength.

00:31:45.423 --> 00:31:47.104
But, I've got three more of these.

00:31:47.617 --> 00:31:49.038
Yep, you're on question number eight.

00:31:49.347 --> 00:31:50.417
Then you have to make your guess.

00:31:51.374 --> 00:31:51.773
Ha ha ha.

00:31:55.243 --> 00:31:55.894
Hmm.

00:31:59.794 --> 00:32:04.683
Let me, let me think, cause I've got a couple, couple answers here.

00:32:05.087 --> 00:32:07.008
What Pokemon do you, are you thinking about?

00:32:07.208 --> 00:32:07.728
Let's share with

00:32:08.403 --> 00:32:10.023
I mean, you know my title.

00:32:11.508 --> 00:32:12.288
Oh, okay.

00:32:13.314 --> 00:32:22.544
So I, I, I thought you were playing into your guests here for a second, but of course your, your, your tone of voice is telling me otherwise.

00:32:26.054 --> 00:32:28.203
And there are a lot of Pokemon that can learn Ice Beam.

00:32:28.203 --> 00:32:28.762
I should have picked that one.

00:32:29.213 --> 00:32:31.693
uh, sheer cold or something like that.

00:32:31.693 --> 00:32:34.792
Uh,

00:32:34.792 --> 00:32:34.952
about.

00:32:34.952 --> 00:32:36.623
Some of my guests figure out this afterwards.

00:32:36.623 --> 00:32:38.282
It's like, Oh, I could have asked this a different way.

00:32:38.292 --> 00:32:38.633
So

00:32:39.833 --> 00:32:44.452
is this Pokemon smaller than two feet?

00:32:45.623 --> 00:32:48.442
Is this Pokemon smaller than two feet?

00:32:51.440 --> 00:32:53.589
It is not smaller than two

00:32:54.446 --> 00:32:55.896
I was gonna say three feet.

00:32:55.896 --> 00:32:57.676
I thought, made too small.

00:32:58.886 --> 00:33:01.227
So big Pokemon can learn Ice Beam.

00:33:01.237 --> 00:33:02.106
Gym leaders used it.

00:33:02.977 --> 00:33:06.333
So just to go over just for the audience sake, it was not introduced after gen five.

00:33:06.883 --> 00:33:08.583
It has been used by gym leader.

00:33:09.097 --> 00:33:11.028
It is not a Pokemon you find in the mountains.

00:33:11.198 --> 00:33:12.508
It is not gender exclusive.

00:33:12.958 --> 00:33:14.617
is a Pokemon you can ride upon.

00:33:15.107 --> 00:33:17.268
It's a Pokemon that's comfortable being dropped off a boat.

00:33:18.048 --> 00:33:20.587
It can learn Ice Beam and it is not smaller than two feet.

00:33:20.958 --> 00:33:22.008
We're on question number nine.

00:33:24.093 --> 00:33:27.042
Yeah, like I said, I have my ideas.

00:33:27.972 --> 00:33:30.663
And you said technically, I'm the gym leader.

00:33:30.823 --> 00:33:35.742
So I, I, I think she, I think she might have, I think she might have used it after.

00:33:36.073 --> 00:33:39.777
But, that's me just trying to remember every freaking team.

00:33:40.797 --> 00:33:41.346
Uh,

00:33:41.682 --> 00:33:43.922
There's only been how many gym leaders in the Pokemon's history?

00:33:44.281 --> 00:33:44.632
Almost a

00:33:45.287 --> 00:33:46.477
making me do math?

00:33:46.507 --> 00:33:47.507
What the hell?

00:33:48.876 --> 00:33:49.856
God damn it.

00:33:50.182 --> 00:33:59.842
Um, see I know what I think it is, but I really don't want to burn a question just, just doing that.

00:34:01.637 --> 00:34:03.458
is this Pokemon blue?

00:34:03.798 --> 00:34:05.847
Is the Pokemon thinking of the color blue?

00:34:07.647 --> 00:34:08.498
It is blue.

00:34:09.807 --> 00:34:11.978
Does it have a shell on its back?

00:34:13.077 --> 00:34:14.777
Oh, you're going back to the number 10.

00:34:14.827 --> 00:34:15.228
Hold on.

00:34:15.608 --> 00:34:17.177
So we're going to be final question.

00:34:17.177 --> 00:34:18.447
If it has a shell on its back,

00:34:18.858 --> 00:34:23.987
Yes, and I will burn myself if I, if I don't get the right one.

00:34:24.297 --> 00:34:29.557
But I have two Pokemon in my head and one of them has a shell on its back and the other doesn't.

00:34:30.438 --> 00:34:32.588
this Pokemon does have a shell on its

00:34:32.967 --> 00:34:33.987
Is it Lapras?

00:34:34.307 --> 00:34:35.498
It is.

00:34:38.630 --> 00:34:39.920
Yeah, baby.

00:34:40.219 --> 00:34:40.920
There you go.

00:34:41.210 --> 00:34:41.949
I had to check it.

00:34:42.070 --> 00:34:44.349
It was used by Misty from, uh, Johto.

00:34:44.869 --> 00:34:46.070
yeah, baby.

00:34:46.070 --> 00:34:49.329
Yeah,

00:34:49.405 --> 00:34:50.954
Aw, I

00:34:51.070 --> 00:34:51.989
my girl.

00:34:52.302 --> 00:34:56.592
I'm for PvP Lapras.

00:34:56.746 --> 00:34:57.536
in PvP.

00:34:57.972 --> 00:34:59.661
Still is in the right circumstances.

00:35:00.259 --> 00:35:01.842
But AJ That is a show.

00:35:01.862 --> 00:35:03.603
Thank you for coming on to the podcast.

00:35:03.612 --> 00:35:08.422
If people want to check out your content, if they want to connect with you, where can they go by all means, please plug away.

00:35:08.760 --> 00:35:09.210
yeah.

00:35:09.210 --> 00:35:13.331
you can find me on Twitch at FinalBossAJ.

00:35:13.360 --> 00:35:19.351
I stream basically every night at stupid hours in the morning because I am a masochist.

00:35:19.650 --> 00:35:31.090
if you want to see me on another channel, you can see me on Pallet Town PvP, where I will be casting the Gym Breakers Final between Italy and the Netherlands alongside, FishOnHeater, SeaLeonardo, and Inadequince.

00:35:31.090 --> 00:35:34.498
So, if you missed that stream, that's your fault.

00:35:34.748 --> 00:35:39.068
So go watch the VOD instead and not be able to talk to me directly.

00:35:39.188 --> 00:35:40.228
That's a you problem.

00:35:40.606 --> 00:35:47.809
And I suppose, uh, you can also find me on Twitter at, A underscore J underscore Andrews.

00:35:47.809 --> 00:35:50.070
The underscores are there because Twitter is dumb.

00:35:50.210 --> 00:35:51.690
It always has been dumb.

00:35:51.690 --> 00:35:53.079
It always will be done.

00:35:53.110 --> 00:35:56.309
And Elon Musk will not get me to call it that stupid name.

00:35:56.309 --> 00:35:57.369
He wants me to.

00:35:57.780 --> 00:36:00.530
So if I say anything on social media, it's probably there.

00:36:00.530 --> 00:36:04.039
I'm on threads at Final Boss AJ, but who uses threads?

00:36:04.347 --> 00:36:06.717
but yeah, that's about where I'm at these days.

00:36:07.369 --> 00:36:14.362
I'll make sure to include links to her stream on the VOD as well as PowerUpTownPvP and all the links she mentioned in the description of this episode.
